[Not a Chapter] Regarding Tsuki ga Michibiku

• I put a theory long time ago about the goddess real identity. She is not Selene, Artemis or Aphrodite.
  She is Magic goddess; "Hecate". I put the argument here:

  Hecate was associated with borders, city walls, doorways, crossroads and, by extension, with realms outside or beyond the world of the living.
  *Hecate was generally represented as three-formed. Triple Hecate was the goddess of the moon with three forms: Selene the Moon in heaven, Artemis the Huntress on earth, and Persephone the Destroyer in the underworld. She ruled over three kingdoms: the earth, the sea, and the sky..*
  She is very important and related to the Moon. That's why she interact with Tsukuyomi.

  • Hmm...I feel like her association with "roads" is kind of out there compared to the traits we've seen so far.

    Not to mention she's supposingly a "wise" goddess and as someone who was once mortal/ugly, she should've been more sympathetic to Makoto.

    Still, you do make a couple of good points and the contradictions could easily be the author changing her version of Hecate to suit the story. I'll keep her in mind as a candidate.

  • I honestly don't want her to be Hecate. Just so you know, Hecate, in Greek mythology, is MUCH more powerful than Athena. She is a rival in power to Zeus. Even Zeus acts with absolute respect toward her(which is even more peculiar when you consider that she's a beautiful woman, and that he apparently never even tried to go for her).
    Here's a quote from Hesiode's Theogony(the oldest genesis-like work for Greek mythology):
    "And she conceived and bore Hecate whom Zeus the son of Cronos honored above all. He gave her splendid gifts, to have a share of the earth and the unfruitful sea. She received honor also in starry heaven, and is honored exceedingly by the deathless gods. For to this day, whenever any one of men on earth offers rich sacrifices and prays for favor according to custom, he calls upon Hecate. Great honor comes full easily to him whose prayers the goddess receives favorably, and she bestows wealth upon him; for the power surely is with her. For as many as were born of Earth and Ocean amongst all these she has her due portion. The son of Cronos did her no wrong nor took anything away of all that was her portion among the former Titan gods: but she holds, as the division was at the first from the beginning, privilege both in earth, and in heaven, and in sea."(Hesiod, Theogony 411–425)

    Actually, you know what? Here's another quote:
    "Whom she will she greatly aids and advances: she sits by worshipful kings in judgement, and in the assembly whom she will is distinguished among the people. And when men arm themselves for the battle that destroys men, then the goddess is at hand to give victory and grant glory readily to whom she will. Good is she also when men contend at the games, for there too the goddess is with them and profits them: and he who by might and strength gets the victory wins the rich prize easily with joy, and brings glory to his parents. And she is good to stand by horsemen, whom she will: and to those whose business is in the grey discomfortable sea, and who pray to Hecate and the loud-crashing Earth-Shaker, easily the glorious goddess gives great catch, and easily she takes it away as soon as seen, if so she will. She is good in the byre with Hermes to increase the stock. The droves of kine and wide herds of goats and flocks of fleecy sheep, if she will, she increases from a few, or makes many to be less. So, then, albeit her mother's only child, she is honored amongst all the deathless gods. And the son of Cronos made her a nurse of the young who after that day saw with their eyes the light of all-seeing Dawn. So from the beginning she is a nurse of the young, and these are her honours."(Hesiod, Theogony 429–452)

    And yes, these came from wikipedia. I own the book, but I really want to type it all down, so I'm happy to have found some of the parts of the Theogony about Hecate through wikipedia.

  • And so, if the bug goddess ends up being Hecate, then it would make no sense.
    The depicted personality and her aspects are very different from those of that bug.
    And like Psychronia mentioned, the aspect of wisdom of Hecate is completely out of place when it comes to that bug. The bug's discrimination based on appearance also doesn't connect with Hecate.

    What we do know about the Bug is that while she has creation magic, she is also not among the strong gods. She's not among the weakest ones, but she very much seem to be either in the low end of the middle tier, or at most in the middle tier.

    Plus, if she was Hecate, she would then have tons of responsibilities as a goddess on Earth, as she have oversees even more things than Tsukuyomi. She must have a ton of work to do most of time. Why would she be "taking care"(and badly at that) of another world instead of doing her job on Earth? Why would the other gods accept that Hecate drop off the job and go play with another world? It would increase the work they have to do by an enormous amount.

    In fact, what would martial arts from any animal without human limbs be like? Kung fu gets inspired by animals all the time, but with animal bodies, options narrow, don't they?

  Iyaaa~ life has been tough for me as a bear lately... I can't even write or read any light novels for the past few months! Now I've been trying to re-introduce reading novels to my daily schedules bit by bit... and now I'm ready to read TsukiMichi (WR too but that's secondary to my fave~) again~! Yay~

  Granted that I am still in my tests weeks... but a chapter or two to continue from where I left won't hurt right? ...right?

    Anyways, just take it one chapter at a time. Both for studies and novels. That's the only way to get and stay on track.
