WM – Chapter 70: Takatsuki Makoto heads to the royal castle again

“Well then, it is about time we go to the Sun Country, Highland.” (Makoto)

I proposed this to everyone in the evening.

There’s no reason to stay here for long anyways.

“Because there are no goblins?” (Lucy)

Lucy says this, peeking upwards at my face.

I avert my face.

“There are too few Spirits here and it doesn’t help out in my training.” (Makoto)

Well, there being no monsters around is also a big factor though.

It is boring.

“I’m fine with that.” (Aya)

Sa-san agrees with me while fiddling with her hair.

Sa-san knocked down all the knights, so it gets pretty awkward between them.

You meet the patrolling knights walking around the city pretty often.

“Then, it would be best to go to the castle to report this.” (Fujiwara)

Fuji-yan warns me.

Is that how it works?

“I will go give my greetings at the royal castle then.” (Chris)

Seems like Chris-san will be going.

“Chris-sama, want me to accompany you?” (Nina)

“Nina, I told you not to add ‘-sama’. Now, let’s go.” (Chris)

“Yes, Chris. I will go get ready first.” (Nina)

Hm, Nina-san and Chris-san are getting along better than ever before.

What was the prickly atmosphere of just a few days ago?

We prepared to depart, and waited for Chris-san and Nina-san to return.

“…I told them that we will be departing to the Sun Country, and they told me that they want to hold a dinner together with us, so come tonight to the Rozes Castle, is the message I was given.” (Chris)

Chris-san returned with a troubled expression.

“Are they trying to stop us…?” (Fujiwara)

Fuji-yan mutters.

“Do we have to go…?” (Makoto)

“Ma-ko-to.” (Lucy)

Lucy shakes her head to the sides.

Yeah, I should know already.

This is a forced event.

“Will there be a lot of delicious food?” (Aya)

Sa-san seems to be looking forward to it, different from everyone else.

“The royal cuisine of the Water Country is said to be of high level.” (Nina)

Ah, Nina-san seems to be in that band too.

The girls that like eating.

With all that said, we head to the Rozes Castle once again.

◇◇

“Waah, so tasty~.”

“This is a delicacy!”

I underestimated the cooking of the Rozes royalty.

It is crazy delicious.

That’s a touristic country’s capital for ya.

A steak that I can cut with chopsticks, a platter of sashimi that was prepared from a whole fish that’s as big as a skipjack tuna (and there’s something similar to soy sauce!).

Crab, prawn, vegetable tempura, and the many fresh types of salads.

The fact that there’s quite a lot of japanese-like food here bothers me though.

…No, this was probably done to match our taste.

“Hey, Takatsuki-kun! The sweets corner over there is amazing!” (Aya)

“Alright! Let’s go!” (Makoto)

It is a buffet, so we can take as much as we want, and Sa-san is all merry.

Me too.

Man, I am glad we came.

“Makoto-san, how is it? Did the food of the Rozes Castle meet your taste?”

Prince Leonard.

I prop myself up so to not be rude.

It worries me that Sa-san is chugging down wine at the back.

Must not make a blunder.

“This is the first time I’ve had such delicious food.” (Makoto)

This isn’t flattery, I really think so.

“This dinner was something that I asked Nee-sama to open. I wanted to talk with Makoto-san one more time.” (Leonard)

Looking at me with those glittering eyes is embarrassing me.

“Can you show me your magic one more time?” (Leonard)

“Uhm…right. Then, over here.” (Makoto)

I can’t be stingy when showing magic for the Prince.

We come close to the fountain that is at the castle’s garden.

(Uhm, Water Magic: [Dance of Animals]!) (Makoto)

Using the water of the fountain, I create mermaids, birds, horses, and other animal forms at random, and have them dance.

It is like a water show.

The people that were doing a musical performance at the party venue began to play their instruments to match this.

There’s few Spirits, but as expected of the fountain of the royal castle, it is good water that has mana in it.

It reminds me of the Water Temple.

Now that I think about it, this is technically the head temple of the Water Temples.

“W-Wow! Just how much do you have to train to master water magic to this extent!” (Leonard)

Looks like Prince Leonard is enjoying this.

That’s a relief.

“Hey hey, Makoto, what’s your water magic proficiency now?” (Lucy)

Lucy pokes my cheek with champagne in one hand.

The red dress that reveals her shoulders suits her.

The fact that she can mix well even in places like this is just like her.

“More than 150.” (Makoto)

I whisper it to her.

The Soul Book modification is against the law, so I can’t say it out loud.

The official number of my Water Magic Proficiency is 99.

Lucy moans with a low ‘hau!’.

“I-I am still at 30…” (Lucy)

“No, the first time you weren’t even at 10, you know.” (Makoto)

You have grown.

It seems like Proficiency tends to increase more quickly with weak Magic Skill.

To increase Proficiency, it is needed to increase the amount of times you use magic.

But when it is someone like Lucy who is a Monarch Mage, just using 1 spell is already hard.

Because she has to control an astounding amount of mana every time.

In that point, someone like me who is an Apprentice Mage with my pathetic amount of mana, I can easily…saying it myself is already making me sad.

“Makoto-san! Can you teach me magic?!” (Leonard)

Prince Leonard asks me with clear eyes.

Oh, that’s unexpected.

[Will you accept the request of Prince Leonard?]

Yes

No ←

It has been a while since I have gotten the choices.

What to do…

If I choose [Yes], I would have to stay in Horun for a while.

If I choose [No]…in the first place, is it okay to refuse the request of the Prince?

I don’t hate Prince Leonard.

He is amiable and I can tell that he admires me.

Just that, his sister Sofia is scary.

While I was thinking about this…

“Leo, what are you doing?”

A refreshing voice resonated from the back.

◇◇

 -Princess Sofia POV-

I set tonight’s dinner at the request of Leo.

But I can’t understand if Takatsuki Makoto has that much appeal to merit it.

He is simply a mage that can use water magic decently.

If it is that much, we have a lot of those in this country.

“That’s not it, Nee-sama! Can’t you tell the delicate control of Makoto-san’s water magic?! They move like they are alive!” (Leonard)

Leo speaks passionately, but…good grief.

Would something like that be useful in the subjugation of the Great Demon Lord?

That just serves for show.

Even so, the hero candidates of the parallel world that I had my eyes on all left the country.

In that regard, it was my blunder.

The people from the other world have low religious belief towards the Gods.

Forcing the rules of this country on them without noticing this, was a mistake.

In that point, Princess Noel from the Sun Country is doing it well.

She provides them money, land, and even lovers.

“Sofia, you are going to bring back the Light Hero to Rozes with your beauty!”

Mother even spread a weird rumor to pull the interest of the Light Hero.

I’m sure that will prove pointless…

In the first place, the opponent is the Light Oracle that’s called the Princess that Illuminates the Heavens <Amaterasu>, Princess Noel.

There’s no way I can win against that.

Oh my? It seems like Leonard is talking to Takatsuki Makoto.

I hope he is not putting anything weird in his head.

“Nee-sama! I am asking Makoto-san if he can teach me magic!” (Leonard)

“Good evening, Princess Sofia.” (Makoto)

Leo has a wide smile, and Takatsuki Makoto an uncomfortable smile.

“Leo, he is an adventurer. You must not ask for the unreasonable.” (Sofia)

A prince asking for the magic teachings of an adventurer?

Moreover, that man is an apprentice mage.

Just what is he thinking…?

“Prince Leonard, if you want to learn magic, there should be a whole lot of mages that are more suited than me.” (Makoto)

That’s a good answer that shows you understand your own standing, Takatsuki Makoto.

“Leo, let’s call for a High Rank Mage of the royal castle later.” (Sofia)

The fact that we don’t even have a Superior Rank Mage is the sad part of our country.

“That’s not it, Nee-sama! Makoto-san’s water magic is art. It is different from the other people.” (Leonard)

“No, you are putting it way too high.” (Makoto)

“Leo…you can’t defeat monsters and demons with art.” (Sofia)

What’s with this? It is like Takatsuki Makoto and I are cooperating to convince Leo.

When I was thinking about how to calm him down…

“Reporting! Monsters have appeared in the city!”

A loud voice that stopped the party resonated in the venue.

  1. Thanks for the chapter! Guess it’s time to show the princess you can kill monsters with Art~ And I’m putting my money on Makoto proving it without realizing it! After spectacularly showing off his skills, he’ll once again go back to trying to tell Leo that he won’t be a good teacher and hope for Sofia to back him up on this but then she also requests it which confuses him! While Lucy and Aya are whispering in the back wondering if our beloved boy raised another flag or not

    1. Yes! Just yes! This exact scenario makes me laugh! I do hope it is something like that, especially the latter half.

    1. LoL, looks more like a dragon punch the a uruse poke. Though I guess that would be much harder to add…
In any case, glad to be seeing these again!

  3. Oh I love Makoto and Lucy in this chapter! Makoto saying they should leave, and Lucy guessing it is because there are no goblins around haha! Then Makoto’s response to the party and Lucy’s rebuttal. Gold!

And wow do we get a nice insight into Sofia’s mindset. She seems focussed on fighting the demon lord and wants actual military power but is slightly blinded to what equates with military power. And it wasn’t her who spread the rumours of enticing the light hero but her mother. Interesting indeed. She is being painted as an earnest if blinkered person.

The self depreciating view of herself compared to Noel is interesting as well. Wouldn’t have pegged her as thinking like that.

Speaking of Noel yeah I can’t say my opinion has changed for the better I still get a nasty vibe off of her, she seems very much the scheming manipulative kind.

Interesting insight into the training of proficiency, someone mentioned it in a conversation thread earlier about How low levels of mana allowing a person to more easily train their proficiency. Spot on. I totally missed the mark.

Definitely can’t wait for the next chapter. Some nice foreshadowing for Makoto and Sofia possibly changing her tune about him!

(Just realised how long this is, I need to be more concise)

    1. Makoto & Sofia both trying to change the young Prince’s mind also shows a slight increase in her ability to read the mood.
But it seems gifted Skill users don’t grind their fine control because they’re always trying for bigger spells. So they lack understanding of how proficiency can greatly enhance way magic can be used.
Looks as if Makoto often doesn’t bother to cast actual water spells anymore. He seems to directly manipulate water to follow his will & imagination after he asks spirits to gather water.
Or maybe I’m just reading to much into it. Lol

      1. I wouldn’t say you are reading too much into it. It makes sound logical sense, it is what many people do in games, just go for the bigger and flashier spells and get their stats to the baseline necessary to perform those big new spells. (Not all people but it is a general observable trend).

In regards to Makoto “Conjuring water” I think he prefers to stack the situation in his favour and remains close to bodies of water or sources of water spirits as he doesn’t have the mana to conjure water in large amounts.

I am actually waiting, and hoping, he can reach such a level of proficiency that he doesn’t need to synchronise with someone to take control of water based magic spells they cast and he instead just asserts his own control over the water spell. But that would probably enter into God like territory wouldn’t it.

Speaking of which all the other gods seem to represent an element of magic (Fire, Earth, Water, Light etc.) given their countries being based on those elements, so what element is Noah? Does she have an Element? Does she have a specific power/forte? Could it be linked to her dagger that she gave Taki-dono?

        Too many questions!

      2. Nah, he is literally a waterbender at this point, and honestly…that’s kinda terrifying.

Give him a water source and he has countless options of attack. Give him prep time and the element of surprise and the damage he can do might very well surpass Great Demon Lord level right now.

    2. Answering with my hypothesis for the Goddess attribute question.
The Holy Gods seems to be gods of pure magic and order while the Evil Gods (Titans) seems to be gods of nature seeing their link to the spirits.
So, Heaven and Earth Gods? One reign over the land and the other is one with the land?
The symbol of the Goddess is a wolf with a dagger, she has great charm and she bestow Makoto with the spirit magic of water.
So maybe a Moon Goddess or the daughter of the Moon Goddess (Titan version)? She could have a dual attribute of water (moon reign over tide) and beauty(charm effect) or forest(wolf for the wild)? The Moon Goddess (Olympus version) was said to reign over death(dagger), so maybe she has that attribute too?
The dagger is basicaly her sacred treasure I think.

      1. Hmmm most interesting, I completely forgot about the wolf and dagger crest.

It is indeed an interesting thought about her having dual attributes although I thought she only gave Taki-dono spirit magic skill (not specifying it to a single attribute).

Wait… have we been told the name of the moon goddess yet? Could Noah actually be the moon Goddess? Nah can’t be…

Hold up, didn’t the oracle of the moon goddess back when the demon lord last came to power side with the demon lord?

I am going to need to re-read things.

Anyway the moon angle definitely sounds interesting.

  4. Thanks for the chapter!!😉

I think Sasori and Deidara’s gonna object to that statement Princess🤔

  5. Welp time to defeat monsters with art.

Also I did think that it was just a rumor when they said that Sofia was engaged to Sakurai. I just thought it was something Sofia herself spread to try to win back the Light Hero for her country. Evidently it was the mother instead who made up the rumor.

So proficiency goes up easier the lower your magic is. I think I remember somebody theorizing it here.

    1. By Reigokai, I think.

Makes sense. The class of the weapon you have doesn’t matter when grinding proficiency in Fire Emblem, only the number of times you strike with it. Because of this, it’s actually most effective to use the weakest possible weapons, which both have better durability and take more charges to kill an enemy.

  6. Having Sofias’s POV feels like the autor wants to show us that she is not as bad as we though… and i think is working.
Now Makoto just need to raise a flag with his monster killing art

  7. Dear dear. Looks like the princess is still doubting Takki. While there’s rationally no reason not to, she really is just too narrow-minded to manage talent, or even really get along with. Prince Leonard is much cuter.

I was wondering about the circus flag, but this is convenient.

Time for Takatsuki Makoto to brush through the enemy, invisible and efficient like a fog of death.

  8. Thanks for the chapter! Was hoping for a yes or no on the harem but I guess adding Sofia to the list is good too.

…I’m not just reading for them harem, you know? It’s true you know?

  9. Thanks for the chapter, this is a good opportunity for him and his goal, if he influences the Prince into accepting his Goddess religion he can influence the toppling down of the other, just saying for his goal influencing influential people should be a most.

    1. I didn’t even think about that. 😮

Feel a little bad using the prince this way, but it shouldn’t be bad for him or the world as a whole, and it’s such a good opportunity that passing it up would be silly.

      1. Isn’t that rigth?? besides he wouldn’t be using the princes he would just introduce him into something different that he migth aprove, like showing him an oprtunity for a new path.

  10. I can’t leave the possibility in the future chapters, princess Sofia will be more interested in Makoto.

Her belief in the capability of Magic versus the style of Makoto in using it combine with spirit was another reason for curiosity.

The more curiosity Princess Sofia is, the more she will fall to the allure of Makoto as an adventurer…

Their might be a possibility of romantic interest, but i dont want to happen this case just yet…

  11. Thanks for the uploads as always! I’m trying to think up some conditions for our watery boi here to class up but the only thing that comes to mind is defeat a a certain amount of monsters above a set level with just water magic. That seems to make the most sense since he usually only uses magic for distraction and moves in all shadow of death style with the dagger for the finisher. Only thing we’ve seen him actually kill just with water magic was the orge early on.

    1. There are also event-type rank ups where he needs to perform a ritual of some kind in a special location. Maybe something to house Water Spirit-sans inside his body once his proficiency is high enough to make it a comfortable environment?

Alternatively, a blessing from an exceptionally powerful spirit. Or maybe he just needs to hit a high enough level to upgrade his skills across the board, since he doesn’t really actively go after big fish and Sa-san seems to have had something like that.

    1. Yeah, it looks really stupid.
They should know he is a spirit user strong enough to cooperate with the Light Hero, moreover the prince was having clear problems at controlling his spell, and Makoto’s ‘artistic’ control shows his high proficiency.

      Thanks for the chapter.

  12. Thanks for the chapter! ^^
My bet is that the circus’s guys aren’t evil but that the clown was in charge of checking the cages and was skipping his duty to enjoy the new drug! x)
That would mean that Makoto just created this incident by himself because of his polymorph without realising it! XD
That would be hilarious and not impossible with our author. ^^

  13. So Sofia’s thinking is probably the norm. It’s probably the same way of thinking that makes people say Makoto wouldn’t be able to kill even a single goblin. Prepare to get your whole world rocked!

  14. Well, after this chapter Sofia really seems a lot better than before, his problem is the fact that she tend to judge a book for his cover instead of see and analize his actual content.

  15. sigh been rereading this after piling some chaps

don’t really know what to feel cause to make some character development for the heroines, it’s full of let’s make the heroine a bit*h first then mellow her out to be part of the harem later

sigh knowing what’s about to happen and seeing them being bit*h gives me mixed feelings about them… just sigh damn I’m irritated
