WM – Chapter 66: Takatsuki Makoto speaks with the Hero

Leonard Eir Rozes.

This is the first time we meet, but even I know that name.

It is the name of the first prince of Rozes.

A beautiful boy that resembles Princess Sofia.

If he had a different attire, he could even pass as a girl.

“I was originally supposed to fight the Taboo Dragon at Laberintos since I am a Hero… I am truly thankful that you defeated them in my stead.” (Leonard)

He lowers his head slightly.

Glacial Hero.

The other title for Prince Leonard.

Even so, to be a hero that’s supposed to save the world, even when he is this young. It must be tough.

“It is okay, Leo. These people have been rewarded properly for it. There’s no need for you to worry about it.” (Sofia)

“…”

Well, that’s true, but…there’s no need to say that right in front of us, right?

“You are still only 9 years old. It is okay to leave the matters of Laberintos to the adventurers.” (Sofia)

9 years old? Isn’t he still in elementary school then?

The rude remarks of Princess Sofia didn’t even bother me anymore.

I can’t think about having this boy fight the Taboo Dragon either.

“Nee-sama <Older Sister>! You always treat me like a child in this way, but even I can do something like this at the very least.” (Leonard)

Saying this, he began chanting.

That chant is…

“Water Magic: [Water Dragon]!” (Leonard)

Ooh! Isn’t that Superior Water Magic?

It may be a bit rough on the edges, but a giant water dragon appears.

It seems like Prince Leonard is a water magic user.

“How’s that, Nee-sama?! I can fight too.” (Leonard)

“…Understood. The next time a Taboo Monster shows up, I will consider having you participate, too. Please stop the magic already.” (Sofia)

“Y-Yes.” (Leonard)

Prince Leonard is controlling the Water Dragon…but it looks dangerous.

“Woooah!”

The Water Dragon passes really close by to the former Guardian Knight.

He is trying really hard to avoid it, but it probably wouldn’t hurt that much even if it did hit, you know?

The serious punch of Sa-san should hurt 100 times more than that.

“H-Hey, is it gonna be okay?” (Lucy)

Lucy pokes my back.

The Water Dragon may look flashy, but even if it did hit you, it simply leaves you drenched.

Well, it will send you flying a decent amount though.

“Ugh, I can’t control it properly…” (Leonard)

Prince Leonard is panicking.

Hmm…can’t he just go ahead and throw the Water Dragon into the water or something? Is what I thought, but his magic control is bad.

Princess Sofia looks at me.

Is she telling me to help?

(This is…) (Makoto)

Is this what Fuji-yan calls an ‘Affection Up’ Event?

I am not a Galge Player, so I can’t really tell.

Let’s try it for now.

“Excuse me for a bit.” (Makoto)

Saying this, I put my hand on top of Prince Leonard’s shoulder.

(Sync…) (Makoto)

I have not synchronized since the time when I was burned through Lucy, but it went well.

I took away the Water Magic’s control rights from Prince Leonard.

The Water Dragon that was shaky a few moments ago was now swimming in the sky smoothly.

“W-Wow…” (Leonard)

I heard the voice of the prince.

Hm, I think you should first reflect on the fact that you couldn’t control your own magic though…

Well, we are talking about an elementary schooler here. Can’t be helped.

The conclusion I arrived at after thinking about what to do with the massive amount of water that the prince made was…

“[Myriad Waterfowls].” (Makoto)

I changed the form of the Water Dragon into tens of thousands of waterfowls and had them scatter.

The massive amount of magic waterfowls fly out from the beautiful castle.

Yup, quite the nice spectacle. I am satisfied.

“Fuwaaaah.” (Leonard)

Prince Leonard made a sound like the ones Lucy makes, and his mouth was wide open.

After that, he looks at me with glittering eyes.

“T-That was amazing! Just what was that spell of before?!” (Leonard)

Nah, I just did whatever. I wouldn’t really call it a spell…

“Takatsuki Makoto, thank you for helping out Leo… Just how long do you plan on keeping your hand on his shoulder?” (Sofia)

Princess Sofia points out in a low tone.

“A-Ah, sorry.” (Makoto)

I separate my hand immediately.

The eyes of Princess Sofia are still cold.

Has her affection increased? I don’t really feel that.

“Then, we will be going now…” (Makoto)

Let’s go to the city at once.

“W-Wait, please! Can we talk for a bit longer, Makoto-san?!” (Leonard)

Prince Leonard grabs my hand.

With the prince looking at me like a puppy, I can’t just ignore him.

I glance at his guardian, Sofia.

“Leo, how about guiding them around the Rozes Castle? You must not leave the castle, okay?” (Sofia)

“Yes!” (Leonard)

We ended up exploring the castle with the prince as the guide.

Of course, there were also bodyguards coming along too, though.

Is Princess Sofia soft on her little brother?

◇◇

Prince Leonard guided us to the Rozes Castle’s Sky Garden, the Grand Church, the royal castle’s messroom, and so on.

There’s a reason why it is called the number one most beautiful castle of the continent. The decorations of the construction, the rose garden; all of it was splendidly made.

Also, Prince Leonard would be spoken to on the way.

For the people working in the castle, Prince Leonard is kind of like an idol, and everyone gave their greetings with big smiles.

Well, Prince Leonard is cute after all. I can understand.

What I don’t understand is the reputation of Princess Sofia.

Princess Sofia is…popular. To an impressive extent.

Her nickname in the Water Country is the Ice Sculpture Princess.

It apparently means that she is as cool as ice, and as beautiful as a sculpture.

Looks like her being unamiable is common knowledge, but Princess Sofia is diligent.

If a village has a calamity occur, she would run there.

If in a certain town a dispute happens, she would mediate it.

She would donate to the hungering people; provide jobs for the needy.

A princess that works sleeplessly for the people of the Water Country.

That was her reputation in the Rozes Castle from the working people.

The prince is with us, so there might have been a bit of flattery into it though.

But the people were talking about Princess Sofia with love and respect.

I didn’t feel any lies in that.

“There’s a problematic thing about Nee-sama though. She evaluates someone with just her first glance. Also, she is way too diligent, to the point that the subordinates can’t keep up. Well, that speaks a lot about the many issues though.” (Leonard)

Because of that, she misses out on a lot of the talented people, huh.

Yeah, she did evaluate me as useless with just a glance.

“Makoto-san’s friends, Okada-san and Kitayama-san, were putting their hands way too much on the maids of the castle that Nee-sama ended up throwing them out…” (Leonard)

Oi! What are those guys doing?

Didn’t Okada-kun have a girlfriend?

Kitayama was…yeah, a womanizer.

“Haah, those guys lack decency after all”, Sa-san sighs.

“Aya, you know them?” (Lucy)

“They were our former classmates, but they would switch women like they switch their underwear.” (Aya)

“Ugh! How filthy!” (Lucy)

Lucy-san is the serious type when it comes to relationship matters after all.

There should have been a number of classmates scouted by the Water Country aside from Okada and Kitayama though, but there’s currently none remaining.

“The military strength of Rozes is the lowest in the continent…” (Leonard)

Prince Leonard laughs sadly.

The Water Country doesn’t have that many soldiers, and when they are troubled by monsters, there’s history that they have relied on adventurers, the Sun Knights, and mercenaries of the Sun Country.

But now everyone is hurrying to increase their own military power in preparation for the revival of the Great Demon Lord.

Princess Sofia is apparently getting desperate in obtaining skilled individuals, but it seems like it is backfiring.

“It would give me peace of mind if a capable mage like Makoto-san were to be with us though.” (Leonard)

Oh, trying to convince me here.

When I get the upward puppy eyes with that face that could be mistaken for that of a pretty girl, it really shakes me.

“I am a mere apprentice mage. I can’t be of help.” (Makoto)

“Apprentice…? You were controlling Superior Magic just now though.” (Leonard)

“Anyone can do that if their Proficiency is high.” (Makoto)

“Is that so…” (Leonard)

Prince Leonard gets down-hearted.

“Not anyone can do that…” (Lucy)

I heard the low retort of Lucy. Ignore.

“Well, thank you for guiding us around.” (Makoto)

“Yes, Makoto-san, Lucy-san, Aya-san, please come again anytime.” (Leonard)

Prince Leonard really looked like nothing other than a pretty girl when he said this with a smile.

We gave our thanks to Prince Leonard, and left the Rozes Castle.

  1. Thanks for the chapter~ And the prince did help show a different side of the princess as expected~ Wonder if Makoto will end up helping her deal with that problem of judging people at a glance? Also even if they tell us how wonderful a princess she is, doesn’t change the fact that she was mean to Makoto so I still don’t like her, but maybe that will change in the future? Who knows? Also, wonder if Makoto is gonna be the new idol of our dear Leo? Would be fun to see Makoto giving tips on how to further increase proficiency

    1. If she does ally up with Takki, I can see him snarking at her every time she jumps the gun on her judgement.

Not to throw shade, but that kind of rash thinking is what Lucy does.

  2. Again with this one?
Are you not translating Tsuki ga?
After ALL the wait, there’s finally, not one, but several new chapters.

    1. Don’t anger him please! He is a busy man and he will get to it when he gets to it! We all managed to wait a year or more for more chapters we can wait a week or two!

    2. I will be completely transparent here as I don’t want to look as if I actually released the chapter because of you.
I planned on releasing it tomorrow. I always release Tsuki ga Michi on the days when I won’t be releasing WM, so tomorrow would have been the day. Someone noticed that pattern and actually accurately said I would release it on wednesday. That person was right.
Please refrain from using that tone, not only with me, but other translators please. I appreciate the passion, but that’s not the way to show it.

      1. I’m really sorry for what our fella did. we always hope you in a good health. thank you for your hard work and once again i am really sorry.

      2. Those kind of entitled jerks really piss me off!
You are already giving us so much…
Please think that the majority here would never speak to you like that: we can only imagin the energy you are putting in translating and we really appreciate your work!

      3. we thank you for your hard work.
Please ignore the idiot that probably never worked half a second in its life.
        Please take care of yourself.

    3. Disgusting. I don’t know if anonymity online makes you feel like you can play the heel and get away with it, but try to understand that you’re not the center of the world and no one is obligated to cater to you.

I’m not white-knighting for this site in particular; I just get very annoyed when I see comments from leechers demanding free stuff and not even attempting to be polite about it. If English isn’t your first language then you probably need to consider going to better classes, because your current ones aren’t cutting it.

    4. For real?

Firstly, you aren’t owed anything so drop the attitude that makes it sound like you do.
Secondly, it hasn’t even been a week yet, and other translations can go at a much slower pace. Reigokai is already absurdly-concerningly even-fast by translator standards. Show some appreciation.
Lastly, we waited two years for another Tsuki chapter. We can wait a few more days more now that it’s on a regular schedule. Just what are we missing not being 100% up to date and waiting on the author for more instead of the translator?

    5. Easy there! I want Tsuki as much as you do, but we can’t be so demanding towards the translator. He is doing it out of passion after all, not as a job. I did find it unusual as he usually covers it within one week, but Weakest Mage also have its own scheduled releases with expectant readers.

      —–

By the way, Reigokai, if you’re reading this then there’s something wrong with Ch. 300 for Tsuki Ga. It doesn’t show up in the list of chapters for some reason. You have to select Ch. 299 and then scroll down till “next chapter” button to begin reading Ch. 300. Probably will be fixed after the other chapters are translated, but you should still be informed of this.

    6. while I enjoy Tsuki ga, you are being a self entitled prick.
      Please stop.
Well, nine out of ten your is just a throw away account just to flame and troll.
If it’s not, please just know you are an idiot.

    1. Both very fine choices, either melt the Ice Princess, or get yourself an adorable shota apprentice…for your apprentice mage…? Whatever, still very fine either way!

        1. That’s only the correct term, if you want to be stabbed in the back by a brocon princess, as well as the front, and very likely in the face too.

  3. Thanks for the chapter Rei-san. XD

So Makoto is gonna have to do something about training this kid, like he did with Lucy…? If he’s even half as diligent as his sister is purported to be, then hopefully he’ll show more improvement than Lucy did, and be less likely to blow away allies, instead of more….

  4. Thanks Nepu!

      |::|/⊂ヽノ|::|」
    / ̄ ̄旦 ̄ ̄ ̄/|
Have you taken your AsaCoco yet?

  5. OK so she’s not entirely at fault for the country not having any otherworlders since some are kinda scummy and were kicked out. Doesn’t change the fact that she judges people at a glance and probably doesn’t try to interact with people to change her opinion and that’s probably why everybody else left.

I swear if it turns out Prince Leo is actually a girl… That trope shows up a lot in stories.

    1. I strongly think that there is a high chance for the Prince to be a girl/reverse trap. Too many signs for a story that uses so many tropes.

Of course, if the Prince is just your regular shota, that would be fine too.

    2. Being too inflexibly righteous can be a character flaw and lawful good is the alignment of a villain. People with transparent motives like Okada and Kitayama are easier to manipulate than someone rational, you just have to find a way to offer them what they want without anyone losing out. If they trip the moral event horizon then you just find them some extra dangerous work away from good people.

      1. Now that I think about it? Aren’t these guys dead? I could’ve sworn Noah said these guys went off to a dungeon and died or something. Or where they other people? I just know that some classmates have already died.

      2. Not wrong, but…how should I put it? That’s a certain level of manipulativeness and callous treatment of life that I feel should at least be considered before crossing.

Right now it’s a state of emergency with the Great Demon Lord’s revival so yeah, probably should’ve done something like that. But there’s definitely an ethical loss and Princess Lily and Rona from TsukiMichi are the logical conclusion of that mentality.

      3. @Psychronia – I agree. There are people who deserve to be approached honestly and people who will use your honesty against you or are too deeply self interested to accept compromise or care if they hurt others. Good for good and evil for evil, yes but you also measured and directed good and evil to get the highest best use out of your resources for the sake of everyone. Keeping a positive moral balance sheet requires a certain level of pragmatism and understanding of who you’re dealing with.

  6. “Prince Leonard really looked like nothing other than a pretty girl when he said this with a smile.”
    Trap route unlocked?
And looks like there’s a new side of the stubborn princess, maybe a future tsundere for the harem.

  7. Hm… The more I read, the more I feel protagonist bias point of view. Maybe because I’ve been reading some other novels where we can understand the other person’s thought by their point of view.

    1. I think it’s been fairly clear since early on that Takki’s view of reality and common sense doesn’t match up with actual reality and common sense, even though his inner monologue frames everything as normal.

I usually find this style of POV writing to be either annoying or really cool. Annoying when it makes the perspective character an idiot, and cool when it shows how much their emotions twist their view of the world.

  8. i get the feeling the prince is actually a girl and was presented as a boy to pretend they had a heir, or to pretend they had a warrior prince for the demon king war

  9. Thanks for the chapter!!😉

Now, I feel that Makoto did something bad to the Princess when they met back at the labyrinth.😅

  10. Princess who? Who cares. Prince Leonard is where it’s at. This adorable little thing has already won me over, and it seems like Takki has won him over too.

I wouldn’t mind further increasing rapport with someone as influential as crown prince + hero by tutoring him in water magic or something.

The princess is…as expected, not a bad person per se, but pretty bad at working with people, plus afflicted with a bad luck streak. Still isn’t doing much to endear any of us to her, but fair enough. Excuses accepted so I’ll put her at neutral favorablility now. Helps that she seems to be a bit of a brocon.

  11. Thank you very much Reigokai! Chapter after chapter everyday is amazing! Thank you so very much!

This was a great chapter, Prince Leo is so great! But a hero? Curious about what qualifies you as a hero? I think Princess Sofia was right to not let him fight the taboo dragons.

I do think this chapter gave more of a glimpse towards Sofia’s character, as I said before she seems more a Kuudere than anything. Seeing how she is with Leo I think she dismisses people who do not appear to have strength more because she does not want to put them at risk and cannot bear the idea of them putting themselves in danger and dying. She also appears desperate to help her people and desperation tends to lead to bad choices and rash decisions.

Looking back the one that was rudest to Taki-dono was the guardian knight whereas Sofia would not, or could not, look back at him. I do think there is more to this than just being rude. And given the wider context I can understand why she would behave as she did. I just hope that there I am reading the potential undercurrents accurately. No pun intended… okay maybe a little pun.

On a different note Taki-dono does make me laugh.

(“Not anyone can do that…” (Lucy)

I heard the low retort of Lucy. Ignore)

Just casually ignore. Haha yeah ignore the the whole having over maxed out level water proficiency after less than 2 years of training. (Which is still curious as to why he was able to achieve that, something seems fishy here).

    1. I bet the title “hero” is given automatically for having a particular skill. Since prince Leo has the skill, he is the water hero.

    2. There’s nothing fishy there. We’ve been shown that he keeps training his magic whenever he could. He prolly even uses magic to brush his teeth. People in their world don’t generally keep training their magic in everyday life once they reach a certain proficiency, so they don’t reach high levels of proficiency easily. Lucy’s not making and manipulating fireballs while walking around town, after all.

      1. It’s also been speculated that, because Takki has so little mana, it’s actually much easier to control. It makes a sort of sense, looking at Lucy and possibly Leonard.

      2. From what I can gather Lucy wasn’t able to actually create and manage fireballs as they always came out huge despite training diligently with Taki-dono int he early days of meeting up and later and only managed to get more of a handle on things after receiving the bracelet from the Sage.

As Psychronia said below it may be his low mana allowing him to more easily control it however I have to wonder, surely there are other who train diligently everyday in that world focussing over and over again on the same thing. Much like in our world there must be people who are focussed on achieving their goal, however from the expressions of Mary and Lucas, who likely would meet people like that given their professions, they were still amazed at Taki-dono reaching max proficiency before 2 years. Same with Lucy despite her being with him most days and seeing his level of training. She even commented on how he was able to keep up the pace of increasing his proficiency at the same rate that she was despite being a far higher proficiency level than her. This implies to me that there is some kind of diminishing returns/slower increase at higher levels just like in many games. You know how in games going from level 1-10 is easier than going from level 50-60 despite being the same “gap” because the experience necessary to go up is greater at higher levels.

If there is a similar system in that world (which I think there is circumstantial evidence for) then it is curious how, regardless of diligent training, Taki-dono is still able to maintain a fairly constant pace of improvement. Even more so if RPG player is affecting him in a similar way as I have speculated before, that it has a rudimentary difficulty level system. If it does and is affecting him to make it the highest level of difficulty then why is it also not affecting his water proficiency and making it as hard to level up/improve as everything else?

  12. I bet if Makoto did something so good to Princess Sofia, she might slightly reverse her first impression with Makoto, and then upgraded to essential person, and then going forward to curiosity, until it was on the level of conscious thinking of Makoto everyday.
I cannot say it will turn to love immediately, but she will be the persistent denial type if that happens but blushes everytime Makoto was around.

But for me, i love the trio girls to be by Makoto namely Mary, Lucy and Sa-san

  13. Thanks for the chapter.
Makoto casually showboating in front of the little hero.🤣
Damn, you can smell that case of brocon through the internet.😏

  14. Oh, Sofia!
Not only doesn’t notice “cute younger sibling” move effectiveness on Makoto but actually tells him to take his hand away from sibling lure. Sigh.
Noel would have been so in there. Skank.
Not that she actually is. I’m just throwing out a catty remark in my bitchiest imitation of female sympathy. I’ve watched teen rom coms, including attending high school. Lol

  15. Well, the prince is nice at least. Also, Kitayama is trash, and should be treated like trash, which was done if a little late. You don’t rely on trash to help you, best a trash can do is stink up the area after all.

  16. For someone who uses water all day he sure is pretty stupid about the power of water (or the author is just an ignorant).
Getting hit by huge masses of water at high speed is no different than being hit by something solid like a rock, so no, getting hit by the Water Dragon spell shouldn’t be something that just “gets you soaked”.
