WM – Chapter 64: Takatsuki Makoto arrives at the capital, Horun

“That’s the capital of Rozes, Horun. The Rozes Castle towers at the middle of it.”

The sight of it slowly got clearer and clearer from on top of the Flying Ship.

“It is surrounded by more than thousands of water fountains and flowers of varying sizes, and it is called the number one most beautiful castle of this continent.” (Chris)

Christiana-san adds.

“But that rampart under construction doesn’t look good.” (Aya)

Just as Sa-san said, the big wall under construction that surrounds the whole capital destroys the sight.

“Horun, which is one of the most prominent touristic locations of the continent, only has the minimum defense facilities, and they were mostly working in maintaining the scenery after all.” (Fujiwara)

“But after receiving the oracle a few years ago that the Great Demon Lord will be reviving, the ramparts were hurriedly being reinforced.” (Chris)

I see.

They do say that the monsters have gotten more active and wild.

Must be rough.

“Hey hey, when we arrive at the capital, where are we going?” (Lucy)

Lucy asks with excitement.

“First, I will go to the castle and greet the King.” (Makoto)

“Isn’t there still time till the settled date?” (Lucy)

“It said come within 7 days, so I suppose it is okay to go sooner.” (Makoto)

I want to finish up the problematic things fast.

I can leisurely explore the capital after that.

“Then, let’s go down.” (Fujiwara)

Everyone nodded at Fuji-yan.

◇◇

—Flower Main Street

It is the main street that extends straight from the main gate of Horun all the way to the Rozes Castle.

Just as its name states, there’s many flowers blooming at the side of that path.

Brick buildings that remind me of the cityscape of Europe.

The street was crowded with people.

The people that were walking the path were of varying races: human, beastkin, elf, dwarves. From children to elderly.

Makkaren was similar, but the people here have a somewhat different atmosphere.

How to say it, they were polished.

Their clothing and the way they talk.

“It feels as if I went from the countryside to the city.” (Makoto)

“Haha! The first time I came to the capital, I thought the same thing-desu zo.” (Fujiwara)

Fuji-yan says while laughing.

“Hey hey.”, Lucy pulls my sleeve.

What was there was…

“Ah…sorry, Christiana-sama.” (Makoto)

Oops. The daughter of the feudal lord of Makkaren was here.

“It is okay. Compared to the capital, Makkaren could indeed be considered a countryside.” (Chris)

She forgave me with a simple chuckle.

“Hey, what is that?” (Aya)

Nice, Sa-san. She diverted the topic.

What she pointed at was a big tent that was set at the plaza.

Indeed, what is that?

In our previous world, those kinds of tents were…

“That’s the monster tamers’ circus troupe. They are a group of performers that go around the continent.” (Chris)

“I have seen it once before a long time ago, but it was quite the thing.” (Fujiwara)

So it really is a circus.

So there’s in this world as well.

Is what I thought, but in this world, it is not people that do the performance, but taming monsters to make them do the performances.

The difference in those areas makes it an Isekai, huh.

“Ah, there’s a giant and a dragon!” (Lucy)

At the place Lucy points at, there’s a giant that’s around 10 meters tall, and also a dragon on the smaller side inside a cage.

“So you can tame dragons too, huh.” (Makoto)

Monster tamers are incredible.

“No, that’s a wyvern. If there were a monster tamer that could tame a pure dragon, they wouldn’t be working in a circus trope but the country.” (Chris)

Christiana-san tells me.

“But those monsters have accumulated stress.” (Aya)

“You can tell, Sa-san?” (Makoto)

“Yeah, kinda.” (Aya)

Some kind of link between monsters?

“The monsters in the circus trope originally attacked people, and would normally be killed, but the circus trope would buy them. Just that…the way they treat them is bad.” (Nina)

So they are utilizing monsters that were originally supposed to be subjugated then.

If there were an organization for the ethical treatment of monsters, I feel like there would be complaints, but there’s most likely not.

“Anyways, this city really has a lot of flowers.” (Lucy)

Looks like Lucy prefers the flowers over the circus.

She is looking at the flower beds and potted plants here and there.

“It is a beautiful city.” (Makoto)

I truly think that. This is the flower capital.

“We will be arriving soon-desu zo. I will talk to the gatekeeper.” (Fujiwara)

We always leave these areas to Fuji-yan.

I am really grateful to him.

We passed through the gate that was adorned artistically, and entered the Rozes Castle.

 ◇◇

 “Raise your heads.”

After entering, we had an audience with the King of Rozes.

There were many people who had come to speak to the King, but when we arrived, we were placed as the top priority and let in.

It gave me a slight sense of superiority.

“I extend my gratitude for your contribution in the subjugation of the Taboo Dragon.”

“The Laberintos City is an important asset of Rozes. We were saved by you heroes of the parallel world.”

The King and Queen of Rozes were giving plain words of gratitude.

They asked me what I wanted between gold or peerage as a reward, and after thinking for a while, I answered: Gold.

Serving the royal family as a noble is a bit…

This is okay, right, Noah-sama?

(Do as you please, Makoto.) (Noah)

Looks like there’s no problem.

The King finished speaking, and at the end, Princess Sofia spoke.

“Takatsuki Makoto, Fujiwara Michio; this is the business permit for the Water Country that you requested. I have signed it under my name.” (Sofia)

“Thank you very much.” (Fujiwara)

Fuji-yan receives it with glee.

In the Water Country, the power of the nobles and the holy professions is strong.

Princess Sofia is the Oracle of the Water Goddess.

She is the person that is close to the top in regards to the nobles and holy professions.

Her sign apparently means a lot.

(Well, with this, we probably won’t be meeting again.) (Makoto)

I glanced up and…her ice cold eyes met with mine.

(Uwaah…she is glaring at me.) (Makoto)

I am really hated.

Princess Sofia continues her words.

“Merchant Fujiwara, if you so wish, we could grant you a peerage.” (Sofia)

“Eh?”

The one who raised a voice of surprise at Princess Sofia’s words was Christiana-san.

“…No, this business permit here is plenty enough, Princess-sama.” (Fujiwara)

In the end, Fuji-yan refused that.

And in this way, the audience ended.

Aah, it really stiffened my shoulders there.

“Fuji-yan, why did you refuse the peerage?” (Makoto)

I was curious about it, so I tried asking.

“Because if I were to accept the peerage from Princess Sofia, I would have to live in the capital of Horun. Also, that was more of a preparation for you, Takki-dono, rather than me-desu zo.” (Fujiwara)

“Eh? What do you mean?” (Makoto)

“She most likely investigated that you and I have formed parties together in Makkaren, and that we were doing business together too. It seems that her objective was to bind us to the Water Country-desu zo.” (Fujiwara)

The latter part was in a low voice.

It seems like he read the mind of Princess Sofia.

So that was her intention, huh…

When I glanced to the side, I saw that Christiana-san was making a complicated expression.

What happened?

“Makoto, we are exploring the city!” (Lucy)

Lucy was pumped up.

But there’s something more important than exploring the city!

“No, first, let’s explore the castle.” (Makoto)

It is the basics of RPGs.

This is my first castle since coming to this Isekai.

I will explore every nook and cranny!

“Takki-dono, wait.” (Fujiwara)

“Takatsuki-kun, wait.” (Aya)

Fuji-yan and Sa-san grabbed me from both sides.

“Eh?” (Makoto)

“You can’t break vases and check drawers, okay?” (Fujiwara)

“That’s a crime, okay? You must not search for hidden rooms or stairs, okay?” (Aya)

“…Eh? You can’t?” (Makoto)

N-No way… Wait, that’s obvious.

Of course you can’t.

Yeah, I knew.

Lucy, Nina-san, and Christiana-san had their mouths open wide.

“…Makoto?” (Lucy)

“No, I wouldn’t do that.” (Makoto)

Aah, games are scary.

I was about to break the vases nearby and check the drawers.

(Haah…)

I could even hear the sigh of the Goddess.

What’s with everyone?

Treating me like a weirdo.

◇◇

Fuji-yan seemed to have been relieved that he stopped my eccentricities; he left to greet the companies of Horun.

Nina-san accompanied Fuji-yan.

Christiana-san seems to be going to greet the nobles of the capital.

She left with her attendants.

And so, just as I was thinking about exploring the city with the others…

“You bastard, is that you, Takatsuki Makoto?! Why are you here?”

I was suddenly called.

When I turned around, the one there was the former guardian knight of the Water Oracle.

Hm? Wasn’t he fired?

      1. I just caught up.. Uuuoohhh!!! Thanks for the chap. I hope you can continue with this! Ive read many an isekai where translators just drop them and never get an update from it ever again!

    1. Thank you kami-sama. All you fellow tsuki fans wipe that drool off your mouths. Let it rest for awhile. Its better, less torture, and more satisfying to eat a whole cake or in this case s slice of a cake (arc) than to snack on crumbs. Especially since it takes awhile for each one to pop out. Oh the pain of resisting tsuki chspters. 😱

    1. The flag with the circus? I dont know if it is because happens a lot in novels but it looked really obvious that something with the circus is going to happen.

  1. Hooo boy! Takki-Dono truly is one dedicated gamer. Nice save Fuji-yan, Sa-san!

Argh! Why has a wild trouble suddenly appeared! Quickly someone get the repel!

  2. “No, first, let’s explore the castle.” (Makoto)
Dude, don’t be like Link! Link’s an asshole. Dude came into my house, broke my property, went through my stuff and stole all my rupees.
    DON’T BE LINK!
    Thanks for the chapter…

  3. Whew, that was a close one, i was totally on board with ransacking the castle too, until they warned him that this isn’t a videogame… I’m not in the wrong for breaking vases, searching drawers, rifling through garbage, and shooting all the portraits between the eyes, it’s that society’s fault for letting me know there’s loot there…!

  4. The thing where he was gonna break vases and check drawers… feels so forced. He’s already been in this world for over a year, but he never went into someone’s house and broke THEIR stuff… So why now?
From the moment he was summoned, he knew this wasn’t some game. He needs to contribute to survive.
It’s a very bad joke that makes the MC seem stupid as opposed to what he’s shown us already…
Or maybe I’m just too nitpicky?

    1. It ain’t just any random place. It is his first castle!
      Hidden passages? Treasures? Items!
A castle is certain to have all of those in games, and really, the beauty and how otherworldly it is must have stirred something in him.
Makoto has shown signs of being a nutcase in those areas. Especially prominent when he saw his first dragon. His first castle must have triggered something similar.

      1. He actually hasn’t gone into the homes of any local village chief, etc. Most of his quests were accepted at the guild.
So far the only home he’s invaded (visited) is Mary’s apartment. Where she got him drunk & he blacked out before she could take advantage of him or he could think think about looking for a vase or box to smash.

  5. No you stop that Makoto. This isn’t Legend of Zelda and you ain’t Link. Don’t go ransacking the castle… at least where everyone can see you.

Just knock that knight the fuck out. What are they gonna do about it? Offend the guy who helped defeat multiple taboo dragons and cause him to potentially leave the country and go to the Sun Country like Princess Noel originally invited?

  6. “You bastard, is that you, Takatsuki Makoto?! Why are you here?”

    I was suddenly called.

When I turned around, the one there was the former guardian knight of the Water Oracle.

    Hm? Wasn’t he fired?
    ——————
Oh boy, our MC and his co’s are gonna get the frick out of the country, isn’t it?

  7. Thanks Nepu!

Have you taken your AsaCoco yet?

  8. Thanks for the Chapter~ Yay for the double chapter~ Also the princess is as crafty and scary as ever~ Well then again she didn’t leave the greatest of impressions, wonder if she’ll play a bigger part in future chapters? Also more drama developing with the former knight~ Wonder if Sofia lied about his dismissal? Or maybe she sent him out there to threaten him? Or maybe instead of being fired he was just demoted to a guard and is now part of some underground syndicate within the country and Makoto is gonna bust it but the problem is that he lacks his spirit abilities! So it might not be the underground syndicate afterall

  9. Pffft. Okay, that little jab at RPG exploration made me snicker. Takki was really going to do it too. Even here in our world, he’s probably lacking a little common sense.

Oooh, next conflict flag is here, huh? Welcome, convenient way to indebt the country to our MC even further. It’ll probably be most damning if he didn’t fight back here, though I’m not sure how well he can grit his teeth.

Somehow sounds like in some point he is going to ask like reward for defeat the demon lord that they let them brak vases while he is using a shield and green clothes instead of ask for the hand of the princess…………

    1. Hand of the princess is a given, for beating a demon king, but thanks to laws, breaking other people’s vases, and shaking out their furniture for loose rupees, isn’t allowed.

  11. “Christiana-san was making a complicated expression.” Is it because he turned down what she considers one of her own value points, or because he lost an opportunity for standing or is it that he’s rejecting ties to her country/nobility? Wish we got to read her thoughts on that one.

    1. Probably she feels complicated because since Fuji-yan declined a peerage that means he probably wouldn’t be forced to leave Makkaren to go live in the capital as a noble and she can continue seeing him while at the same time knowing that getting a peerage would probably have been very helpful for Fuji-yan’s businesses.

      1. My read is on the marriage aspect. For example, him having peerage would make it easier to marry her without resistance…or make him eligible for other noblewomen and drastically increase her competition, considering her influence as a noble is her main asset to him.

  12. Thanks for the chapter….Makoto…really thats a crime bro!!!!! I am glad you weren’t into adult games where you can go around violating woman or something like that.

  13. “You can’t break vases and check drawers, okay?”

When I read this I had to think a little, then I remember how we all just break literally everything, check every prop in the game…………that was a good laugh…..

  14. The castle exploration idea was hilarious.
Well, now that I think about it, the knight prick just got fired from the position of guard, he didn’t stop being a noble and probably has another job in the castle.

  15. i dont remember, was his third person view skill capable of seeing through walls? if yes he could totally find secret passages
i hope thats an option once he levels up high enough

  16. Makoto was so funny.
I like JRPG a lot, and when i reach a kind of building, intrusion without minding the privacy was a norm. That RPG skill of him, i though it kick his gaming instinct in MAX mode her.

  17. Thanks for the chapter! ^^
They aren’t heelping themselves by leting this knight around when Makoto comes.
Maybe a typo: “The monsters in the circus trope originally attacked people, and would normally be killed, but the circus trope would buy them. Just that…the way they treat them is bad.”
    Shpuldn’t it be “troupe”?

  18. -Makoto breaks vase- ooo a tiny medal!!!! -has to pay 5,000 G to replace the vase- oh.. maybe not so good.

  19. “I have seen it once before a long time ago, but it was quite the thing.”

They’ve only been in the world a little over a year. Horrible writing from a pathetic waste of oxygen.

    1. Should be two years or a bit more at this point. Makoto spent a year in the temple before heading out, then spent 3 months hunting goblins before even meeting Lucy. Besides which, “a long time” is pretty ambiguous and subjective. An hour is a long time, and so is ten million years.

  20. Thank you for the chapter !,

“You can’t break vases and check drawers, okay?” (Fujiwara)
“That’s a crime, okay? You must not search for hidden rooms or stairs, okay?” (Aya)
    Hey it’s every man dream u know? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  21. Well, peerage will also make it easier (and more appropriate) for Fuji to marry Chris after all.

Also, the hallmark of RPG players : casual burglary. Even when the devs add crime system into the game (hello Fallout and TES) it just makes the players more creative (head, meet bucket).

And why is Sir Shits-a-lot here?

  22. I was thinking in the beginning, that Clear Mind and RPG Player are like the perfect skills for creating a villain. Like, slowly, over time, using them would make someone more and more detached from the world, seeing it as a game, and treating everyone as NPCs.
