WM – Chapter 46: We prepare for the boss battle

-Sasaki Aya POV-

“How is it? Do you think you can use Stealth, Sa-san?” (Makoto)

Takatsuki-kun asks.

I am currently in the middle of training my Stealth Skill.

“Yeah, I think I get it somewhat. But it is difficult.” (Aya)

We are at the Mid Floor of Laberintos.

On the space at the back of the giant waterfall.

It is my favorite place, but lately it became a saddening place that reminded me of my family.

However, it doesn’t sadden me as much now.

“…”

When I look at my side, I see Takatsuki-kun spreading his hands in the sky, and saying something in a low voice.

“What are you doing?” (Aya)

“I am speaking to the Spirits around here. Telling them to let’s get along.” (Makoto)

“Uhm, when you get along with Spirits, your Spirit Magic gets stronger, was it?” (Aya)

“Yeah, it is pretty quirky magic, you see.” (Makoto)

“Do you think you can get along with the Spirits?” (Aya)

“I do. The Spirits of Laberintos are pretty cooperative. They are easy to speak to.” (Makoto)

“Is that so.” (Aya)

I can’t see these so called Spirits, so it doesn’t really click with me.

But Takatsuki-kun seems to be having fun.

I don’t remember when, but in the past I thought that he would be happy if he were to come to this world, and that’s exactly what happened.

While I spaced out watching him, I continued training the Skill.

“Shh! Sa-san, there’s harpies.” (Makoto)

“!”

Tension runs.

My heart that was jumping grows cold.

When I looked at the atrium part of the cave from the opening of the waterfall, I saw several harpies circling around.

They are probably searching for prey.

*Grind!*…I could feel my teeth grinding.

Acting as if nothing happened. I am going to send the whole lot of you to hell!

Maybe he noticed my feelings, Takatsuki-kun speaks to me calmly.

“Sa-san, do those guys always appear from around there?” (Makoto)

“…Yeah, as far as I know, they come from that big hole where the light comes in from.” (Aya)

“Then, it would be best to think that their nest is also around that part.” (Makoto)

“But we won’t be able to reach that place with us being unable to fly…” (Aya)

I also think that their nest is close to the ceiling of this underground lake area.

But there’s no path to reach there.

“Let’s think about that later with everyone… Looks like those guys flew somewhere else.” (Makoto)

Just as Takatsuki-kun said, the harpies disappeared deep into this underground area.

“It should be okay now.” (Makoto)

“Yeah.” (Aya)

We go back to what we were doing.

We are mostly silent in order to not let monsters find us.

But compared to the loneliness of when I was living alone in this dungeon, this truly calms my heart.

(However…) (Aya)

If I were asked whether everything is calming, I would be able to say for sure…

There’s something that bothers me.

(The times when we are both alone are most likely gonna be rare.) (Aya)

I should ask this as naturally as possible.

I speak to him in a tone as if beginning a normal conversation.

“Hey, Takatsuki-kun, what kind of relationship do you have with Lucy-san?” (Aya)

Ah, the way of asking might have been a bit too straight.

I wonder if he thought weirdly of it.

But it bothers me.

The beautiful red haired elf girl.

She gave me a bit of a thorny impression, but when I spoke to her, she was a girl with a refreshing personality.

And for some reason, she wears thinly.

To the point that it made even a girl like me skip a beat.

“What kind of relationship, you ask? I told you already, didn’t I? A comrade that I formed a party with around half a year ago.” (Makoto)

“A party with only you two, right?” (Aya)

“At times we would be together with Fuji-yan, or go together with other adventurers. We do have different members every now and then. I was mostly solo though.” (Makoto)

“You adventure alone?” (Aya)

“It is comfortable after all. I am a pro at goblin hunting, I’ll have you know.” (Makoto)

For some reason, he was making a proud expression.

It is the same face he was making when he was playing games in his free time on the field trip.

(He hasn’t changed.) (Aya)

“But now with Sa-san, it will be a party of 3.” (Makoto)

“Eh?” (Aya)

“Hm? You don’t want to?” (Makoto)

“No! Of course I’m okay!” (Aya)

That surprised me.

I was thinking about asking him to let me into his party eventually.

I see, I am already a part of the party!

“Ah, but I haven’t consulted with Lucy yet.” (Makoto)

“…”

“But I am sure it will be alright.” (Makoto)

He is calling Lucy without honorifics.

As far as I know, Takatsuki-kun didn’t have any female friends he would call without honorifics.

Thinking like that, he is pretty close to Lucy-san.

(Just that, it seems like calling people by their name is the normal practice in this world…) (Aya)

Lucy-san suddenly called me ‘Aya’ after all.

(Would it be better if I call him ‘Makoto’, too? But it would be weird to suddenly change my way of calling him… Uuuh…) (Aya)

While feeling fuzzy, we continued that day’s training and exploration.

◇◇

 -Lucy POV-

“Now then, let’s begin the training to control your fire.” (Makoto)

After finishing dinner, I began training at the outskirts of the Adventurer City with Makoto.

I was together with Fujiyan-san and Nina for the day.

We went to the Adventurer Guild and the merchants to get information about the Harpy Queen, but the results were not good.

Everyone was gossipping about the Taboo Dragon or the Sun Knight Order and the Light Hero.

“Apparently, in 2-3 days, the Sun Knight Order will be leaving to subjugate the Taboo Dragon.” (Lucy)

“Hoh, then once the subjugation is done, the monsters in Laberintos might calm down.” (Makoto)

“That’s what they say. The adventurers and merchants were grieving the fact that because of the dragon appearing at the Upper Floor, explorations have reduced, and it is affecting business.” (Lucy)

“Well, figures.” (Makoto)

While saying this, Makoto was using his water magic to create a small dragon and flew it about.

Even though it was a water ball just a few days ago…

His art is becoming even more detailed.

“How many Stone Bullets can you bring out at once now, Lucy?” (Makoto)

“Only 3…” (Lucy)

“Ooh, nice. It increased.” (Makoto)

Makoto says this while having 9 mini-sized dragons flying around him.

I feel like he is making fun of me.

“How in the world do you make it so you can have such minute control?” (Lucy)

“When you surpass 120 in Water Magic Proficiency, you can do this.” (Makoto)

“…Okay.” (Lucy)

I was an idiot for asking.

It doesn’t serve as reference at all.

What is Proficiency: 120?

My fire magic proficiency is 15 and my earth magic proficiency is 11.

Just that, earth magic is easier to use thanks to the staff.

More accurately speaking, it is thanks to the magic staff that the God Giant tinkered with.

The training we are doing right now is training to increase the amount of Falling Meteors I can do.

The amount of harpies that will be this time’s opponent are many.

‘We want to defeat as many of them as possible in the first move’, is the opinion of Makoto.

(The Harpy Queen… The target of revenge for the Lamias, the family of Sasaki Aya.) (Lucy)

The adventure this time around originates from the lamia girl we met recently.

A girl that had been reincarnated as a Lamia.

And an acquaintance of Makoto.

(What kind of acquaintance was she?) (Lucy)

I heard that ‘she is a friend of mine that studied in the same school as us’.

Saying ‘she was a bit more of a docile girl before though’ as he laughed, Aya went ‘what do you mean by that?’, and bonged the head of Makoto.

They get along well.

Not only that, they are close.

(They were exploring Laberintos all alone today… Moreover, he said that he invited her to the party.) (Lucy)

Invite Sasaki Aya to the party.

I have no issues with that.

She is the friend of Makoto and Fujiyan-san.

They are otherworldlers and she has no other acquaintances here.

Moreover, she reincarnated into a monster, so we can’t act as people who don’t know about her circumstances.

It is natural to help her.

But what bothers me is…

(Aya probably likes Makoto…) (Lucy)

Did she love him from way back?

Or did she fall in love with him in this world after they reunited?

I don’t know.

“By the way, Lucy, can you guide Sa-san around the city tomorrow?” (Makoto)

“Eh? Kya!” (Lucy)

Being suddenly thrown that topic, I ended up dropping the Stone Bullet that I was controlling.

The rock that was burning with fire magic scorched the ground.

“Are you okay?” (Makoto)

“Y-Yeah. By the way, only me? What will you do, Makoto?” (Lucy)

“I will be communicating with the Spirits in Laberintos again.” (Makoto)

“Are you okay alone?” (Lucy)

“I have done the [Mapping] of all the escape routes, so I am okay alone. I want you to teach Sa-san how to shop and how to use money.” (Makoto)

“Got it…” (Lucy)

Alone with Aya, huh.

After finishing training…we finished the day with fuzzy feelings still in my heart.

  1. Thanks for the chapter~ Hopefully we’ll get more backstory on why Sasaki is in love with Makoto, or maybe we might learn more about Makoto in general~ Also kinda want to see more development between Makoto and the Hero

  2. Just a random question/theory but do people think Makoto will ever be able to use any magic besides water magic and if so which magic? (NO SPOILERS PLEASE. Just people’s opinions based on previous chapters)

Although him being a pure water Mage is awesome I do kind of also want to see him use Moon magic. The weakest and most hated magic wind up being used in such ways that they then rival or even surpass sun magic sounds cool to me.

And I can’t help but recall that scene when the kind old Giant fellow allowed him to see spirits for the first time. Didn’t he say he saw blue, white, yellow and (was it green) lights clustering around him. And the giant said he was loved by the spirits. Surely it doesn’t mean JUST the water spirits does it?

    1. I assume he can do so by synchro/tuning with other people, though dunno if it would be considered his own magic.

On that thought, I keep imagining tuning with Aya will make him a Muscle Wizard.

    2. i also feel like he would be using moon magic as well as fire and if aya has an affinity then her magic as well. My reasoning is when he fused with lucy he had a grasp of how to control her rampaging flame to burn the griffon and if he fuses with aya he may be able to grasp another element. It’s cool to see what he can do since his water control is insane.

    3. Quite honestly, even if he could use some other magic, I don’t think he’d use it. Why? Because his strength is built on his proficiency with said magic. He’s been practicing for a pretty lengthy sum of time with water magic until he got it to a pretty reliable level. Picking up something else would be like someone who’s mastered the sword suddenly picking up a bow.

      1. We are in a RPG like world here, and Makoto is the kind of RPG player that loves maxing out his characters and grinding like mad his skills. So, as long as he can see progress, he won’t stop grinding any time soon. ^^
In real life terms sure, people rarely goes for multiples masteries at once with some exceptions. In games terms, there is a lot of peoples that loves do that! x)
I completely see Makoto pursuing mastery in all fields of magic if given the opportunity. XD

    4. For elements I’m kind of hoping he goes for wind/air magic. Should be easy to train as it’s all around him and once the spirits get involved he will be flying literally.

As for Moon magic, eh, I’m not so thrilled. It sounds cool and all, but feels like something that can only be used when the moon is out. Day time and clouds should both ruduce its effectiveness. Well I guess it might be interesting if it was for something like enchanting or crafting, but otherwise it should be very limiting.

Despite the above, magic crafting has been way over done, so hoping things take a different turn, maybe something like summoning or sence he excels at the control aspects just going full elementalist supported by the spirits.

    5. Hmm. There’s a big ol’ flag for Moon Magic, considering it’s regarded poorly and he’s already becoming more and more of a heretic.

Besides that, I could see other elements becoming a thing down the line, though Water would probably remain his go-to. Synching with Sa-san might be fun. Ooo…or maybe Sa-san synching with Lucy, considering her body is made of tougher stuff…

    6. The Moon and Water are closely related in a lot of lores, and as others mentioned there was quite the big hint a few chapters ago that Makoto would get it. But with how the author loves playing auround with us I can see him giving “only” the Moon magic in addition, while Lucy gets the full set of Magics with the help the Evil Gods’s retainers they will surely meet later on to become a full blown [Grand Mage]. ^^
As for the spirit magic you have a point. He will surely unlock all Spirit Magics and be able this way to use all elements without the regular Magic. So depending of how it works, it will become a trump card that can be used once or twice a day for each element or more once the proficiency goes up.

    7. I think it depends on affinity.
      Remember Makoto used Lucy’s mana.
      It burned him.
So, I think the same thing will happen if Makoto do it with spirits.

      1. He got burned because Lucy’s mana carries demonic properties. He would’ve suffered regardless since he doesn’t have fire element affinity but he almost died because of the demonic nature of her mana.

      2. Didn’t it only burn him because her father was a demon coated in flames? I believe the chapter afterward she actually told him that normally the magic wouldn’t work or cause some damage but not enough to actually cause him to immolate himself

    8. My theory: Makoto have strongest skillset out of his classmate. There is high probability on Makoto can use other element.
      My reason:
-Noah can manipulate Makoto’s book. It’s possible Makoto has hidden skill.
-Noah can give skill to Makoto(i.e spirit magic). It’s possible Noah can take Makoto skill, or give Makoto somekind of skill that can restrict Makoto abilities. Noah probably do this to make Makoto become the weakest, so Makoto didn’t get recruited by other goddess and to make Makoto to not become overconfidence like his friends that died.
-It’s weird that Noah don’t want Makoto to be stronger (her conversation with the Titan)
-It’s really convenient for Makoto to has Water Magic while he start his journey from Water Temple and the dungeon which seal Noah is underwater.
Again, this is just my theory. I’m aware that there is some hole on my theory, but i’m to lazy to think more into this. Lastly, sorry for my bad english.

      1. No worries, it is something interesting and worth thinking about. I am more curious why his stats and skills are so low compared to literally everyone else. It does raise a very weird flag. I mean bucking the trend like that is typically an indicator of some other factor at work

    9. the author might do that but he might first solve the problem about Makoto’s mana… cause it ain’t worth nothing even if he can use other magic..but he might BS his way through that by making him use the spirits that has a long cool down

  3. Thanks for the chapter as always. Side note but funi-yan can literally read minds, how long you all figure he’ll stay silent about what lucy and aya feel for makoto before his clear mind skill making him rationalize away every flag finally makes fuji-yan snap?

    1. Best bro will surely act at the most opportune moment, Galge are his speciality, let’s believe in him.
How did Makoto even reach 120 in Water Magic Proficiency so fast?! He was at 102 during his depression and before he was gaining ‘only’ 1 point per week of training. Did he get some crazy boost?

      1. Fugi-yan will come thrue for a bro. He punched his DT card long ago, and he will eventually get tired of Makoto playing the part of dense protag and set him on the path to sexual enlightenment.

Magic wise Makoto was 102 back in the city on the plains. However it wouldnt suprise me in Noah-kamisama did something to give him a slight boost whe she unlocked the proficiency stat so he could see the actual numbers.(it was locked at 99) otherwise dont look down on his hard work. Makoto tends to push himself hard and think exploring tunnels full of water has given him lots of materials to practice with.

      2. Well, he is doing stuff like conjuring water dragons on a whim now, so maybe he upped his training regiment.

Or time could have passed, or maybe the encounter leveled him up.

        1. He is probably leveling up with all the Spirit Magic he used.
Controlling a massive amount of water each time must do wonders in the proficiency department.

    2. His stats are worse then a normal person of that world and have shown very little growth even though he has passed level 20. Maybe his stats are being repressed and will receive a massive jump if he is given title Demon Lord.
The shrine said that the transmigrated students were brought over atm before their deaths.
But I wonder why Sa-san reincarnated as a monster. Did she get snatched after she died?
If they all actually died & most were reincarnated with reinforced cloned human bodies that had been aged it would explain why they only have a 10 year life span. There wasn’t a mention of life span in Aya’s soul book.

  4. “But now with Sa-san, it will be a threesome.” (Makoto)
    “Eh?” (Aya)
“Hm? You don’t want to?” (Makoto)
“No! Of course I’m okay!” (Aya)

Who says the guy is dense?

  5. Thanks for the chapter😉

Im more worried when those two girls walk around the city than Makoto exploring the dungeon alone😅

  6. Wow he’s already got 120 water magic proficiency. I think it was he only needed 105 proficiency to be able to see spirits.

Anyways looks like Makoto is racking up affection points with both girls.

Oh no it’s probably not a good idea to leave Aqua -er I mean Lucy- alone with a person that doesn’t yet know the common sense of the humans. I wouldn’t be surprised if Makoto comes out of the dungeon and sees a giant flaming crater in the city.

    1. Bloody careless fool, Makoto was specifically told that proficiency can not go over 99 under normal circumstances yet he said 120 so casually. The moment Lucy blur that out to other people is when all hell breaks loose.

  7. Mmm… i got an idea, what if Aya was not the encounter the goddess talked about?
I feel that maybe the goddess was talking about the Taboo Dragon because she said nothing when Makoto meet Aya, and the goddess likes to boast

  8. “Alone with Aya, huh” What don’t tell me you’re aiming for Ayaya from the start Lucy-chan? Ehh. I’m fine with yuri. So be it. Anyway thanks for the chapter! I’m still really puzzled about the light hero though? Is he a genuine or a faker? I’m talking about his personality.

  9. Thanks for the chapter. We’re making progress on all fronts. Don’t know what’s normal for a donation, so did a contribution felt comfortable with. Don’t see it on side panel. Like the chapters so far.

  10. I’m getting the vibe that Sa-san and Lucy will surprisingly hit it off quite well. Right now, they’re just sorta struggling to fit in and build rapport, but the ice will eventually break.

Meanwhile, Takki is innocently building everyone’s skills up, assuming Aya is already on his team, which is sweet.

  11. Thanks for the chapter! ^^
I can’t help but pitied the unlucky guys that would try to hit on the girls while they are shopping or pick a fight. Either they will be crushed or be burned! x)

  12. This kind of POVs are the one that make the story.
Always a nice experience when reading well written different point of views..
    Thanks for the translation.

  13. Thanks for the chapter….btw there’s a novel called ankoku kishi monogatari (the tale of the dark knight-summoned by maou to defeat the hero) its pretty good ..if possible can you translate it..its ongoing but the author said he’s moving from syosetsu to magnet novels and novelba he’s gonna co tinue the series on these new sites

  14. Having the girls go shopping together? Are we sure Makoto doesn’t have a hidden unique skill like “Harem Genre Protagonist”? He’s consolidating his harem like it’s natural!

  15. And so the Waifu War began…

I dunno about using Falling Meteor against flying monsters tho. Seems like Fire Storm would be a lot more useful.
