Chapter 268: An impossible reunion

Sponsored Chapter

TLN: I sincerely apologize for ending the chapter yesterday in such a sour manner. I was  thinking about putting out today’s chapter yesterday, but I had business to attend to and couldn’t manage to bring out 2 chapters.
Again, really sorry!

White as always.
After the night passed, I had come to a place I wouldn’t even imagine I would be a few hours ago.
The outside is pure white.
That place is, to my surprise…
“I am truly sorry, Waka-sama! I am aware that you are in the middle of clearing the labyrinth of Lorel, but…”
The one who is lowering his head is Shiki.
Actually, tomorrow is lecture day in the Academy.
At evening, I was planning on going to Rotsgard in order to have a preparatory meeting, so meeting with Shiki today was within schedule.
I simply didn’t expect it to turn into meeting in the morning.
Because of the sudden call of Shiki, I am currently at Kaleneon, a place I haven’t been to for a while.
“And so, how’s Jin?” (Makoto)
“He has regained consciousness, but he is still in a state of extreme agitation. I didn’t expect Jin to lose control in such a manner. It was my blunder.” (Shiki)
“…He is still alive. You don’t have to be bothered so much by it, Shiki. You must have estimated the amount he could handle when you had him train after all.” (Makoto)
That’s right.
Apparently, Shiki was training Jin, who was burning with desire to be employed by us, in a separate curriculum from that of the classes and had him take some work to see.
Of course, he wasn’t alone. The company staff was also with him.
The training itself was just as I said, not something that was too dangerous.
Regarding Jin, Amelia, and the students, I have given a relative amount of material for Shiki and have left it to him, and from what I have heard, there’s no problems.
By nature, it was a situation where there’s no need to call for me.
‘I am truly sorry, Jin has been seriously wounded. Please come to Kaleneon posthaste’, is the report I received in my sleep, and so, that’s why I am currently in Kaleneon.
From what Shiki has said, the treatment has been safely done and has shown the best results where no scars are left.
However, because Jin was about to die -not in a class, but in actual combat- he fell into a state of agitation.
…Well, at the classes, no matter how much they are conscious of death, lately, they have seriously understood somewhere in their minds that they won’t die.
Even if we corner them right at the borders of death, we wouldn’t go as far as actually killing them after all.
But actual combat is different.
For the sake of stealing, protecting, eating; they will fight the enemy and kill it.
Of course, only one side will survive and the other will die.
In other words, Jin has experienced the fear of actual borderline death that he has not experienced in a while, and his state of mind is currently unstable.
In terms of strength, he has plenty enough to work as an adventurer, but -fufufu- looks like he has finally stepped into the starting line of becoming a warrior in the real sense of the word.
He probably remembered the time with the lesser dragon and that has made him even more mortified and agitated.
That was also actual combat, but he was in a party, moreover, they had countermeasures before fighting, and they also had tenacity that surpassed their fear.
Now then…why was Jin on the verge of dying this time?
“…Actually, I am expecting Jin to act in Kaleneon’s matters. And so, I was thinking about having him experience fighting in a snow country and the way to fight there, so I brought him here with the intentions of having him learn in actual practice.” (Shiki)
“And  there was an unexpected factor that even Shiki was unable to predict. Is that how it is?” (Makoto)
“…Yes.” (Shiki)
Shiki’s bitter smile was heavy.
Maybe he thinks he has planted a trauma in his student.
Being honest here, I don’t feel like Shiki needs to feel so responsible about it.
I also have no intentions of blaming him at all for the injury of Jin.
After this, I plan on saying this to Jin when he gets somewhat better: ‘Don’t make Shiki worry’, ‘are you a weakling?’, ‘are your limbs decorations?’, which is just some light abuse.
I don’t know for what sake he did it, but he came to our place seeking strength, and said he desired to be employed in the Kuzunoha Company.
He should have known of its danger.
He himself has taken the lessons and has been watching us, so he should have known that there’s no way he would obtain power and money by sipping tea while watching the sunset.
If that wasn’t the case, he would have dropped out of class.
On top of that, he was suggested training by Shiki and he accepted it, and splendidly failed in it.
That’s right, he failed expectations.
At the very least, that how I have to think as the representative of the company.
Everyone from Asora is also going outside and doing their best as part of the company with pride, so the responsibility is heavier.
If it were simply about the class, it would be another story, but when it is about Jin and Amelia, I must make sure to act the part.
“Shiki, in this time’s matter, Jin betrayed your expectations and you were disappointed. That’s all there’s to it.” (Makoto)
“But I—! Am in part their teacher as well.” (Shiki)
“At the same time -for now, at least- you are the company superior of those two. Right?” (Makoto)
“That’s…yes, it is exactly as you say, but…” (Shiki)
“Then, let’s go with expecting the same as everyone at Asora in terms of work. Without the partiality that they are students. You are focusing too much on it.” (Makoto)
“Am I…really focusing too much on it? I admit that because he is under my tutelage and inexperienced, I have been soft.” (Shiki)
“That’s how I see it. No matter if he is a student under your tutelage, as long as he wants to work in the Kuzunoha Company, inexperience doesn’t matter. If we are going to hire them, it would be troublesome if they don’t properly show the strength we seek from them.” (Makoto)
“…Right. It is just as you say. If we are soft with only them, it wouldn’t be a good example for the people of Asora that have crossed the gate and working hard at the outside for the company. You are completely right.” (Shiki)
“I am leagues away from preaching Shiki though. Hahaha.” (Makoto)
“No, that’s not true. This is not good, I just end up treating them as students rather than acting as a superior. If they are going to be involved with the company, I have to properly do things.” (Shiki)
“That’s right, that’s the way to go. Now then, Jin should have calmed down by now. Maybe I should go with the: ‘hey, wimp’. And so, why did Jin end up that way?” (Makoto)
The mysterious factor that overturned the expectation of Shiki.
It interests me.
“That’s probably me~!”
“Uwa?!”
From the other side of the room’s door, a response suddenly came in place of a knock.
What?!
Who?!
No, this voice…
I have heard it before?!
“Is it okay to enter?!”
An energetic voice resonates in the room.
Obviously, I look at Shiki.
“There’s probably no mistake. Because of that person’s influence, Jin chased the mamonos too far and received an injury.” (Shiki)
“Heh~.”
I see.
It is a voice I have heard before, but…at the same time, there’s a sense of discomfort for remembering.
It is as if something is out of place. A strange sensation.
Who is it?
Well, for now, it seems like the other side doesn’t hold any hostility, so let’s have it enter.
“Please, go ahead.” (Makoto)
“Excuse my intrusion!!”
Energetic.
At any rate, it seems to be an energetic person.
I could tell before that person came in but, she is a girl.
She is in her teens and…

Around the same age as Jin and the others…
But…
Hah?!
Haaaaaah?!!!
“Nice to meet you! It is an honor to make your acquaintance, Raidou-sama! At the orders of my father, Falz, I am on duty at the Adventurer Guild of Kaleneon, my name’s Sofia!!”
Short blue hair, both eyes not showing a single irregularity, and her energy is the same as before entering the room.
The dragon slayer that Root supposedly dealt the finishing blow to…has, for some reason, rejuvenated, and is standing in front of me.
…Father?
Father, you say?!
****
“And that’s how it is. Because of me, it seems I made the apprentice-san there get injured. I am sorry.” (Sofia)
“…”
The young Sofia explained the situation for me, and lowered her head deeply —at me.
With no stiffness and no uneasiness showing.
No, that’s not on that level. This is…yeah, she clearly doesn’t know me.
It looks like she really doesn’t know.
For some reason, she seems to be incredibly interested in me and that part is eerie, but there’s not a single trace of her faking.
Sofia.
I don’t know everything that happened in her past.
But…if -and only IF-she didn’t have the objective of devouring Superior Dragons to be on the same level as Root, and didn’t have any sort of factor that distorted her into darkness as she grew up, she might have ended up being a woman like this.
Of course, that’s only an if.
But the young Sofia in front of me isn’t some sort of residual spirit of her or an undead, she has clear presence. Moreover, she is calling that Root as father.
…No, it wasn’t Root.
Falz.
That’s how she called him.
“Raidou-sama?” (Sofia)
“Ah, right. I understand. It is nothing you should apologize for. It just means that our Jin is inexperienced.” (Makoto)
“Inexperienced?! It is true that he is a bit of a weird guy, but his skills were quite high. Ah! Could it be that in the Kuzunoha Company, even that is considered inexperienced?!” (Sofia)
The young Sofia talks to me with glittering eyes.
A bit of a weird guy. It is not like Jin is a weird guy.
But from what I hear of young Sofia, he is indeed weird.
I have also confirmed with Shiki, and it seems like what she says is true.
Sister Miranda, huh.
It seems like that’s what Jin shouted when he coincidentally met Sofia in the middle of his training and ran to her.
It wasn’t on the level of resembling an acquaintance, he was completely sure that this young Sofia was this person called Miranda.
Hm…
Doesn’t sound like he went crazy from the cold.
In the first place, the current Sofia is clearly strange.
She is younger, doesn’t remember me, and her impression of the Kuzunoha Company is overwhelmingly good.
And that girl looks similar to someone else?
No good, I don’t understand.
“Can’t say he is skilled when he ended up injured just because his strength was not fitting for the place. It is true that if I am asked whether Jin is weak or strong in the Kuzunoha Company, I would say that he is an apprentice. He is still weak.” (Makoto)
“Uwaa~~! As expected of the world’s strongest war potential, the Kuzunoha Company! You are exactly how father said!!” (Sofia)

As I thought, even here she mentions Root.
Geez.
This Sofia being here, or more like, everything about this is a scheme of his.
Going through the trouble of leaving this girl in Kaleneon, must mean that he was looking forward to me finding her and be taken aback by it.
And also, he expects me to go flying to his place asking for the circumstances of this.
…That’s exactly what I will be doing though.
That irritates me.
In the first place, what’s that about being the world’s strongest war potential.
That’s not an evaluation you give to a company.
“War potential, is it. Seriously, how ill-natured of Falz-dono.” (Makoto)
“No! My father always says this frequently. That being able to cooperate with the Kuzunoha Company is a big benefit for the Adventurer Guild. He said that Raidou-sama is an important and irreplaceable existence.” (Sofia)
“…”
“T-That’s why he said that you are his ‘most trusted person’ and send me to Kaleneon. I was looking forward to the day I meet you like this. That’s the truth.” (Sofia)
…Sofia.
She looks happy.
Yeah, there’s no doubt about that.
There’s no doubt in her words.
Let’s start over. I will give her the chance.
It is certainly great.
But…that innocence, that pure way of her bringing the conversation to me, looking at her who is happy about this moving meeting of hers…for some reason, it was painful for me.
I still don’t understand the reason why.
The figure of Sofia enjoying life…looked pitiful.
I don’t know how, but Root has given her a life opposite of hatred, a life of happiness.
That’s how it is, and yet…
I can’t read the emotions of Shiki who is standing at my side.
He is simply showing a gentle expression as a superior of the company and at times, gesturing comprehension to the words of Sofia.
“Ah, he told me to keep this a secret, but I can’t lie to father and Raidou-sama, so I am telling you this, okay?” (Sofia)
“Hm?”
The young Sofia made a troubled expression and then soon returned to the smile she showed until now as she said this.
Shiki’s eyebrow moves slightly.
…New information huh.
That ‘he’ she mentioned just now, is she referring to the person that rescued Jin at the base of the snow mountain?
That’s what Sofia said.
That there was a man who wiped out the mamonos that cornered Jin.
It is questionable for a person that’s challenging the snow mountain, but apparently, it was a knight-looking person that sported a full plate armor. Moreover, he was riding a strong horse.
There’s so many things to retort to that I don’t even know where to begin.
Being told this is some new sort of illusion magic would be more believable.
“He introduced himself as Aznoval. It seems like he saved the apprentice there, and when I arrived at the place, he said: ‘I am Aznoval…is the alias I go by as a knight -no I mean, an adventurer of ori– no, not that either, I am just passing by. By the way, where’s Tsige?’” (Sofia)
Aznoval?
I know that name though.
“From the looks of it, I don’t think it was an alias but his real name. He was wandering Kaleneon, and was asking the directions for Tsige. That’s clearly weird.” (Sofia)
…That’s true. It is way too far.
It is like being in China, and asking the way to Finland.
If it’s from Silk Road to Middle East, that’s barely realistic.
Even if this world has teleport formations, the standard way of transportation in this world is at the level of the Middle Ages.
Anyways, Tsige huh.
If he is from the Adventurers of Origin, I can’t ignore that the name Tsige came out from his mouth.
First of all, let’s look at the state of Jin, and then, return to Tsige.
…I will leave the labyrinth exploration for the afternoon, and in that time, I will have everyone investigate about the things related to Iroha-chan.
Now that I think about it, Mio wanted to inspect the miso production.
It is dull but, as a small reward, let’s make it free time this morning with the pretext of investigation.
“At any rate, what should we do about that boy? I am not Miranda-san, and am not that boy’s sister though. Today is our first time meeting. If this were a new type of flirting, I would have been able to reject it…” (Sofia)
“I will be asking him that after this, so it may take a bit of time, but if you are okay with it…” (Makoto)
“If Raidou-sama says so. Also, please don’t use formal speech with someone like me. It seems like you are busy today, but it would make me happy if you were to lend me your time in the near future! Well then, I would feel bad taking so much of your time, so I will be leaving now!” (Sofia)
She doesn’t intend to meet Jin, huh.
But that’s true.
It would make me feel more at ease if this were simply Jin fallin’ in love at first sight with Sofia and him trying some nonsensical flirting.
Now then, let’s hurry.
I have to finish the business here and in Tsige while it is morning, and return to Kannaoi by the afternoon.
Tsige huh. It would be nice if there’s someone who knows about the objective of this Aznoval person though.

      Spoiler-san didn’t shoot first?

      1. So Truck-kun was going to send her to another world… but you hit a plothole, swerved and ended up missing her entirely?
        You had ONE JOB, Truck-kun!

  2. Jesus Lord, did not see that coming… I just did a spit take, an actual, first, ever in my life, honest to God spit take when Sophia showed up. WTH Root…

    1. ditto. I knew she was kept alive by Root…but I didn’t expect she would appear out of nowhere, I mean there’s so much things going on on this Arc and then Sofia…chan just appears! 😮

      1. Hmmm? I think she was remade instead of kept alive
Not sure if the body was created from scratch or if root kept the body of the previous one and used magic to rebuild and erase all traces of her previous personality and memories.
Besides having the previous “strongest adventurer” other than the people from the kuzunoha suddenly dissapear would cause an uproar so…

  3. Thanks for the chapter, tho it does help with the last it doesn’t clear it away.
    DEATH TO TOMOKI!
Maybe Tomoki becoming worse helps him to accept Sofia? Also she was tampered wit, obviously that is kinda sad.

    1. It’s Root we’re talking about. I wouldn’t put it past him to do it just for the giggles, and because he likes messing with Makoto.
But hey, on the bright side, Sofia is back (sort of) and now has a chance at a happy life.
I’m sure Makoto will be a great Uncle, if for nothing else than to keep Root from messing with her any more.

  4. Thanks for the chapter.
Man… I always feel like I should wait for more chapters, but I can’t help it whenever I see the update. Plus things seem really interesting right now so I don’t wanna just put this down to read later. I swear this is a curse… -_-

    1. Yeah I want to set this aside and then binge it but I can’t resist the urge to read a new chapter :”(

    1. I’ll have to reserve my judgement for after we learn of this “Miranda” character and maybe see some more interaction between them, but yeah.
It’s actually a pretty amusing idea to think of and I can imagine a great deal of chemistry between them if the author goes for it somehow.

    1. No. All dragons in the story (at least the superior ones) can rebirth. It’s more Pheonix-like than necromancy.
On the other hand… What Shiki did is definitely necromancy.

      1. and since Root is able to temper with the superior dragons’ memories during their rebirth, brainwashing completely Sophia during her rebirth which is controlled by himself, it’s piece of cake

  5. Thank you Reigokai.
    As always, will always.
It’s okay. Yesterday’s cliffhanger was mild so we don’t mind much. You have things to attend to so there’s no helping it.

  6. Thank for the chapter.
Well Sophia is a part heavenly dragon being Root’s kid/descendant, wouldn’t be that odd if she also got to inherit heavenly dragon’s reincarnation abilities from her ‘dad’.
If the adventurers of origin are all now immortal then that means Root’s first hubby is still alive, can’t wait for him to show up too.

    1. Soooo, Aznoval going to Tsige to get infos on their future home? Or will he go ther and pull shit like “Muahaha, preemptive strike Raido, we shall kill al you care about!”, which would be a bit childish for such old people, right? Also I wouldn´t deny that it would make for an epic fight, when Makoto gets enraged and just out right slaughter everyone on the 20th level of the labyrinth, completely destroying the adventurer systen, by kill all these “immortals”. I kinda wanna see that assassin guy get rekt, when Makotot actually uses sakai to figth and not to suppress his power. i bet his current power emission alone would blow the normal guys off their feet.

  7. Well Sophia’s back from the dead, ready to pester Makoto in a different way this time. I’m getting tired of that fool Root’s playing around. My opinion of “it” is just getting worse and worse.
Thanks for the chapter. And don’t worry about us from the comments section last chapter. The hate was all Tomoki. I mean, I thought I knew rage then that guy came along and taught me a few more things.

    1. i´m mostly isgusted with Trashmoki, which on the contrary show how good the athor is in writing really hateable antagonists.
I mean, sometimes you are like ” oh another clishe´ antagonist we see 10 000 times” and we have seen them so often that we got numb to their action. but here, theres sofia , who even the reader can hardly forgive and the goddes, that dumb bug and then there is tomoki who is himself one disgusting crump, but even furthers how bad the goddess is, by knowing what a piece of shit he is and still brining him over and giving him that power, just because he looked better than average.

    1. Uncle Makoto will make sure her “dad” is the best father she can have. And she’ll have the best Uncle too.
At least that’s the scenario I’m hoping for. Please, Author-sama, don’t hurt me any more!

      1. After all theae messes recently, we need something sweet like this!
Makoto does seem like the cool uncle type though. At least, he’d be until the kids ask to work under him.
He seems like a sucker for his sisters, so he’d probably be on the protective side.

    1. Man, like I’ve said Reigokai. There’s no need to rush this translation to its temporary conclusion.
Last chapter obviously incited a lot of feelings in the readers, and I would argue that’s a good thing. If you’d released two chapters like you wanted, there would’ve been much less opportunity to discuss things, so seriously, don’t sweat it.
As I’ve mentioned in comments of last chapter, I loved how much I hated that parting scene.

        1. I’d prefer to call it being a literary connoisseur. The author created an uncomfortable scene that was meant to be uncomfortable, and it worked, so I have to applaud him(wait, I assume the author is a man?) for it.
Being pushed to feel this stuff means two things. Firstly, it leads us to think about things outside our comfort zone, and that can be intellectually stimulating. Secondly, it means we’re invested in the story and its characters. Fictional or not, I genuinely didn’t want Haruka to be under Charm and really felt indignant at Tomoki doing such things to her.
What do we know about her? Virtually nothing except that she had a strong spirit and that she’s Iroha’s mother. And yet we feel bad for her and want her to be free more so than the hundreds of other nameless charm victims under Tomoki, like the party members he has that I can’t even remember the names of. That’s a sign of investment, and that’s the sign of successful narrative technique.

  8. Was wondering what root was gona do with sofias body. Somethings definitely off here. Root had no interest or attatchment to sofia but now we see him revive her and apparently is actually playing the part of a parent this time around. Theres a setup here for something and I hope we dont have to wait another 100 chps to see what it is.

  9. so sofia inheriting rebirth skill like superior dragon or it just Root make the previous Sofia dying, erasing her memories and brainwashing a re-new human to teasing makoto (yes root knew that our protag have a trouma with sofia) and the worst presenting the re-new Sofia as makoto harem, lol. but wait why i am imagining sofia with fierce aura and red hair no, blue hair
so shiki regaining his Hyumanity gradually… the first his concern toward Amelia and now his responsibility feeling when the hyuman subordinate took big damage
    thx for the chapt,

    1. I think it was mentioned previously that she had the reincarnation ability like the superior dragons. I believe it was the chapter where Root killed her.

  10. Thanks for the chapter 🙂
Don’t worry about the cliffhanger, it just gives everyone a good excuse to debate and theorize on the story and on how Trashmoki will be “punished”.
Other than that, Sofia’s new personality came as a little of a surprise. Would this be an example of gap moe? She went from psycho bitch straight to naive and innocent girl-next-door.
Of course, this could be an example of how she would have turned out if she had never found out that her father’s race and powers.

    1. I’m actually kinda liking this new Sophia. The original one was kind of annoying, but had some attractive parts in her personality here and there.
So far, this new one is just funny, if unsettling.

      1. It’s possible that’s a hidden card of Root to have a “child with Makoto”….
Since his/her approach didn’t give fruits he/she send off his/her springs to “copulate” with Makoto….Sofia eyes were glittering in seing Makoto ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    2. You sure that’s Sophia?
      Really sure?
      Really, really sure?
Surprise! It’s clone Sophia 3 of 250! lol
Won’t put it past Root to have a huge stock of cloned descendants all with differing personalities, including ‘Broken Sophia’ who discovered she’s just one of a line of mass production. It would fit with her obsessive love for her Hero, the ‘only Brave allowed to exist’, won’t be surprised if s/he thinks their offspring is the be all and end all of hyumanity too.

  11. seriously just how many chapters left to reach raws? i have a feeling to drop this novel for at least a year. a lot of chapters already are just bla bla bla new plot with bla bla bla and in 3 minutes namek will explode and bla bla bla for 10 more chapters and in 2m.59s namek will explode << its going like that no real advance cmon already whats next? going to tsige to learn NOTHING HAPPENED and that actuallyFOR SOME STUPID REASON the drug reached there and merchant wife its brain washed or something -_- or even the adventurers. just who cares for adventurers of origin its better to just learn from them once fight start instead of o need to go a city and learn someone strong came here and go ad for some unknown reason i know its from those guys buuu must learn of him. well ignore all i said i am just pissed off since already reaching raws and il probably wont be able to know what happens for a lot more of time.. also this chapter made me mad as hell.. a %"·$"·$ new sofia when i was happy she died already. and another reason aside tomoki to add another 30 chapters without reaching to duel -_-

      1. It is? I honestly don’t mind a lot of what’s going on right now.
Maybe my standards are just different but I’ve been seeing a lot of complaints about this novel recently that I just don’t get.
Makoto’s exploring the world. This time he’s at Lorel with whatever reason and we get to see how everyone reacts to him. He’s being his silly self, his followers are being their silly selves, and Tomoki is being his dickhead self.
There are some slow chapters, but I’m quite entertained the whole way through.

      1. No, I think it’s been getting way slower lately. For instance, this chapter feels like another distraction from this arc’s climax. It’s like the author is sticking in filler until he composes the finale.

    1. lol, this is as far one of the most unique story I have ever read. It’s separated from other typical plots. And you put it in the same category as DB, the most typical plot out there? Just how many chapters did you just scan but not read? you are like a kid reading a typical OP MC story just to look for a 1 side massacre between that MC and other character. Without planning, analyzing, tatics,… just pure raw power to win + all char have IQ 1.

    2. I kind of agree, there has been an awful lot of talking as of late, and most of it has just been “tomoki is a shitbird”, and “well makoto killed three people who came at him with the intent to kill” with all the bitching of people complaining afterwards for and against him doing it, though I have to admit sofia popping up again might be a nice thing, provided it isn’t some reach around spying bs or she was just pretending and the author is just setting up a cheap feel moment.

  12. Thanks for the chapter! It’s fine even if u don’t double release the chapters. Cuz not all translators r as fast (release-timewise, some took a month to translate) as you due to rl commitments.
And in actuality , most of the readers r also anticipating releases from other novels so unless that person is a NEET, they won’t bother much I think.

  13. Thanks as always Reigo-san ! its ok about that it just like Psychronia said, it gives us quite a lot to disquss and where to aim our hatred to :3
take your time dude and also your health so you dont get too exhausted with the things you have to do
    🙂

  14. Daaamn. Makoto is such a brutal teacher.
“Fufufu…you’ve finally stepped into the realm of warriors after being traumatized by a near-death experience.”
    followed by,
“Almost dying to something of this level? wimp .”
At this point, I wonder if he obtained his “Life is worthless” mentality from his training with his own teacher?

    1. I imagine Makoto scolding Jin for his weakness while simultaneously being attacked by demonic snow leopards the size of tanks.
“You really need to train har…”
      *ka-blam*
      “…der if you want to…”
      *casual neck snapping*
      “… work at Kuzunoha. “

  15. Surprise Sophia! I’m actually kinda happy to see her again.
…I have to agree with Makoto on her changes though, even if his problem has more to do with his personal past with her.
Something about seeing Sophia like this is…immensely uncomfortable. Whether it’s wiping her memories after reincarnating her, recreating her mind and body using whatever was left of her as base, or something else…What Root basically did was change the very core of her personality as he saw fit after giving her a dog’s death.
One might argue that this change was for the better since Sophia seems much more happy and upbeat now, but…how to put it…it’s so hollow. Whatever she thinks she’s experienced is false, her true hate-driven motivations were all for nothing, and whoever she originally was had been utterly erased as if it never existed.
She’s now living this carefree life only because Root decided to make it this way on what was probably a whim-a literal joke.
That’s some pretty callous treatment for his own flesh and blood, honestly. Especially when you consider that Root originally selfishly erased some people from history and killed her equal out of familial love.

    1. I reread the part where sophia died, root said he saw when she became a women, and when she was heartbroken, sophia said she suffered from the power she received.
that make me interested in sophia’s back-story and why she wanted so much to kill root.
what if her power to absorb other power when out of controle and ended up stealing the life of her husband or child?
that would explain the hate she had for root

    2. What’s done is done. I just hope Makoto will not try to keep his distance from her. Since Root is her “dad”, Makoto needs to get involved in her life to make sure Root doesn’t mess with her any more.
You know, it’s starting to feel like Makoto is just going around cleaning up the messes that everyone makes. The Bug, Root, the Heroes, Root again… and again, and the Heroes again (not just Tomoki, because Hibiki certainly isn’t just idling her time away).

      1. ….Oh wow. Makoto really has just been the janitor of this world hasn’t he?
He was dropped in the wasteland and cleaned up the many terrible circumstances of the demihumans there, as well as the demon’s plots, and the corruption in Zetsuya.
He gets dragged off into the war and ends up “settling” the conflict there, to the point where demons and hyumans actually just give up and somehow coexist together.
After that is Academy Town Rotsgard, where he crushes overbearing businesses, wipes out a conspiracy organization, and made his name by fixing the horribly ineffectual battle systems the students seemed to be living by.
He’s dragged into the war again to explicitly clean up Hibiki’s mess (Tomoki’s leftovers just sorta came to find him).
When he visits the demon country, he’s involved in clearing up the coup d’état(not to mention Root’s “mess”). When he visits Gritonia he beats some values out of Tomoki(arguably not a good thing though). When he visits Limia he’s used as bait for the Hoplace family.
And now in Lorel…well, we can see where this is going.
Forget archery. Makoto is clearly going to become a god of cleaning.

        1. When you list it out like that it’s just depressing.
On the other hand, that just makes Makoto an actual Hero.
After all, true heroes don’t act the way they do because they’re trying to be a hero and think that it is how one would act. They simply do what is necessary, even when everyone else runs away.

          1. Is it? I’m not sure, actually.
I feel like a person who dutifully reflects on what he or she should be doing to “act like a hero” can be just as admirable as someone that’s just a helpful person on instinct.
Thinking about things like that opens up the more philosophical aspects of the role, like in Maoyuu.
Wouldn’t it be kinda interesting to see how much more philanthropy Makoto would be doing if he was accepted as a Hero by Bug? Actually, the whole idea of him being summoned as the only Hero sounds pretty interesting. Would he be like Hibiki and just try to wipe the demons out? Would he be like Tomoki and fall prey to vices? Or would he still just be himself and prefer to live relatively simply?

          2. Well if had been sumoned as the sole Hero I am sure he would have avoided moe duty that to figth in the war, he wouldn’t guet involved in the politics or factions. He migth have just marchd to battlefields and eliminate the enemy to end the war sooner.

    1. When you’re a God (almost) of your own world, run the most powerful company in another world, and are the most in-demand temporary teacher at the most prestigious Academy, you will be juggling many issues at the same time.
I’m actually glad that Makoto can’t just focus on one thing, but sometimes has to respond to events elsewhere. Helps make the world feel more alive.

  16. You know I always was curious as to Sofia’s true origins but this chapters clearly explains how she was born. We knew that Root had a child with a Japanese person but I was question if either that was Sofia’s great ancestor or Sofia herself and this just hits the nail on the head as to how she originated and probably why she hated Root for so long. She probably not only absorbed the ability to devour superior dragons but their longevity and rebirth skill with probably the ability to carry on their memories through such cycles thus leading to Chibi Sofia though with no memories of Makoto currently. Man is Makoto going to have to add Root to his shitlist soon for this list of troubles giving him.

    1. If that’s the case, Sophia goes from an ok to great villain.
I mostly only liked her because she catalyzed makoto’s growth and was threatening at all to him(at least at first).
This would open up so much possible character growth both from Makoto and the newly reincarnated Lancer and Sophia. Sophia’s just too pitiful with that in mind. She’s a tragic heroine in her own story.
Just wish the reveal didn’t interrupt all the Lorel politics and immortal reincarnated showdowns.

      1. I for one find it pretty funny that Makoto is dealing with so much between Haruka, Jin, and “Sophia” that it seems like preparing for fighting the immortal proto-adenturers in their home territory is taking the backmost seat.
        Much priority. Masterful.
I’m not even being (too) sarcastic. For anyone else, this wouldn’t make sense, but for Makoto…

  17. So Sofia got reincarnated and she doesn’t have her previous memories?
Well she is part supreme dragon after all
And maybe sister Miranda was also one of her past lives

    1. When you factor in their ages, it’s more likely either an alias of the dragonslayer herself or a distant relative of hers that also has Root’s blood.

      1. Actually, Root might really be doing a body-snatching of sorts. He’s mentioned that he’s been the guildmaster ever since it started, but that means occasionally passing the title off to someone when his current alias is too old to continue without arousing suspicion.
Root could very well be planting his children in his guild, shaping their lives and careers as he pleases, then passing the title down to them before erasing them and stealing their identity.

        1. Nah, that can’t be…
          *Remembers Bug*
I mean sure, the author had to give Makoto some sort of goal to start him off, and revenge is a classic…
          *Remembers Hibiki*
Well, Makoto needed someone to stand as a contrast, but I’m sure the author wouldn’t make this too dark…
          *Remembers Tomoki*
          FUUUU-!!!
Anyway, if that’s true, then Makoto should just burn this world to ash and start over.
I’m still hoping that Root is simply able to alter his own body at will, though maybe with some restrictions or some sort of cost.
Then again, has it been mentioned that Root is always the Guild Master? I don’t remember that part. It could be he takes a break from the Guild for several decades after each “lifetime”, then goes around doing other stuff.
It’s not like he needs to be the Guild Master to control the Guild.

          1. Hmm…Yeah, I admit I don’t remember if there was any explicit claim that Root was the guildmaster the entire time, but my point on his bodysnatching stands even though he can shapeshift.
What I mean is that he has someone else grow up and establish an identity in his stead so that whenever he needs to change “generations”, he just passes the title to someone he prepared, then assumes their form after faking his death. Naturally, the original is eliminated to avoid any problems.

          2. Yeah, with everything we have learned about Root, especially the last few chapters, I wouldn’t put it past him to do that.
But I’ll keep hoping that at least that part will turn out to be different. For Sofia’s sake.
I’m just hoping that Root will not end up a major antagonist that Makoto needs to eliminate.
The way Makoto keeps putting off dealing with them, his To-Kill will start getting long.

  18. Thanks for the Chappy.
No reason to apologise for the feelings after the last one Rei.
It is wrong of others if they try to blame you for it. This was an unexpected surprise though, can’t stop worrying about the trashmoki plot though orz
Seriously this arc seems like a xanatos trainwreck in the making. Betcha Sofia was in an orphanage with him or such

  19. I’ll be honest here that I got caught off guard with Sophia appearing here with a personality that is the total opposite of her old personality damn it …. GGWP author-san
    Thanks for the chap ~

  20. If you guys ever read from the start, IF Sofia doesn’t know the fact that she can absorb other superior dragon(s) to become stronger AND she is just an experiment out of Root/Falz ‘s boredom, then this current Sofia is the closest pposibility that came out if she was raise by doting-parent Falz… aside from a free-spirited Sofia adventruer, or domisticated, motherly caring Sofia at a certain rural area’s newly wed homes….
And now back to Jin’s topic… Probably something related about Sofia’s erased past before being brainwashed by Root, idk…
And again, thanks 4 the chap. Still, this Sofia was suprised me…

  21. thanks for the chapt!
Did expect that she might come around some time, but gave me a surpise on jins side, wonder whats that about?
I can see that root will say “use her as you see fit”, then obviously she will be put in tsige then. Whats next? Lancer’s saying hello world? LOL

    1. no idea what lancer did before he contracted with sofia, but since sand dragon is babysitting him, i guess he’s gonna be a guardian dragon of the empire for a while. if trashmoki meets with lancer, he might just panic and accidentally nuke the empire. heh

  22. Thanks for the chapter, Reigo-senpai.
Well guys… 6 chapters left until caught up. But… that’s not what I want to talk about. First off, Sofia coming back was the last big spoiler that Spoiler-san was forced to hold in. That’s right, I did mention sometime ago in a reply to Raizu that someone would be coming back that should be dead. It was her… and now, there’s no spoilers left.
Even if Reigo-senpai posted this on time… we still have that huge cliffhanger from the previous chapter. I still wanna see Trashmoki get punished. He needs to be punished somehow. And yes, I still stand by my words of wanting him to get genderbended and then made a seedbed for goblins.

    1. Do you read Goblin Slayer?
I don’t know if Tomoki deserve to be treated by goblins like that, but I believe nobody should be treated like that. Even trash can be recycle.

      1. But.. but… a Tomoki Meatshield would be useless. It will attract all attack towards the user, even worse that Taunt because he breaks easily.

        1. Point 1. Tomoki is really good at drawing aggro(pissing everyone off to new and exciting extremes).
Point 2. You can’t seem to get rid of him and he’s even immortal once a month.
I don’t know about you, but that sounds like the exact job description of a tank.

          1. Counter point 1. While Aggro is good… Equipping Tomoki Meatshield will reduce your INT. & LUCK. Depending on your fighting style, this might not be a good thing.
Counter point 2. Once equipped, you cannot throw it away. It will stick to you like a leech until you die. You can imagine your marriage day, with that ugly shield stuck to your arm.
Additional point. It is useful, only during the night. Yes it’s indestructible during the full moon, but very brittle during the day. You cannot fight during the day.
            * Remember that you cannot equip other item replacing the shield. It will only drop upon your death.

          2. Okay, maybe I was trying to sell Tomoki’s role wrong. He’s not meant to be equipped as a shield.
Rather, he’s the person with the shield. The party’s decoy tank that draws enemy attention while the actual fighters do work.

    2. well now~ why is there a need to genderbend tomoki also he should be treated worser than the girls in goblin slayer :3 also he should get such a sound beating from makoto that he should be completely broken~ ^^

  23. Okay, I’m a bit sleepy so stop me if this is entirely stupid. . . but is it possible Sophia is NOT a descendant of Root? Is it possible she’s something like a shard of Futsu?
I mean, she has the power to absorb superior dragons, seemed really obsessed with taking Root’s powers and resurrected in similar fashion to the other superior dragons. We also know Root stole Futsu’s power as well as everyone’s memory of Futsu, and is practically a habitual… not liar, exactly? Mislead-er? Also there’s Aznoval wandering around in the frozen wastes nearby for… fuck knows what reason.
    Thoughts?

    1. That.. Is actually a very valid point. Huh. It didn’t even occur to me that Futsu could be living disguised as a hyuman.
It is worth mentioning, however, that Root is known as the “Myriad Harmony Dragon”, which means a mastery of all elements that the other Superior Dragons embody.
As such, a case for Sophia, who has compatibility with all the dragons despite their sometimes apparently clashing elements,  being Root’s descendent is slightly stronger if only because we don’t know Futsu’s specialty yet.

      1. ” The Ancestral Dragon of Heavens, Heavenly Dragon Root; directly opposite, the Ancestral Dragon of the Land, Land Dragon Futsu. ”
I’m guessing “Myriad Harmony Dragon” is from the combination of Root and Futsu’s power, heaven and earth. I have no idea what the elemental associations for those are. Wind thunder and water for heaven and darkness fire earth for ground?
Well, even if Sophia is an aspect of Futsu she’s not it’s entirety. The Phanton of Futsu is clearly something separate. Sophia did have a golden soul orb thing when she was killed which is the color associated with BUG and prime superior dragons. I mean, maybe that’s hereditary? Or maybe the phantom is like a detached consciousness and Sophia is the divine reincarnation aspect? zzZZZzz oh well. Memory wiping powers are involved so any of my speculation is amusing but inconclusive.

    2. You mean The posibility of Root lying about sofia deeply inherited its blood and having only a fraction of its absorption ability?

  24. Seriously about time she got reincarnated. We all knew it when root did what he did then. But serious jin who do u think u r kazuya from freezing. On another note knight dude with the horsey is the bro man. Lol love character that get lost easily

  25. Thanks 4 the chapter!
So, Sofia was reborn without her memory like the dragons she devoured.

  26. Thanks for the chapter as always, worry not Regokai we can handle some sour endings, you do what you need to do. Well well well, it seems that Root pulled another trick out of his sleve, so whats the theorie with Sofia is she reincarnated??? What about the sister that Jim mentioned, who is she??? And who said that Makoto was an sweet boss, when he will taunt you as soon as you guet to death door. If Jin recuperates from this I am sure he will star the path of masochist XD

  27. Makoto is busy as ever isn’t he? It’s nice that he actually has a rapid-transport capability
Hoping for the best for this new Sophia, and hopefully this time she’s kept as far away from Trashmoki as possible. Hopefully Makoto will keep Iroha-chan safe as well
Reigokai-dono, I implore you to institute some sort of Trashmoki-warning, in case of chapters about its depravity, or hopefully, its deliciously despaired demise

  28. Thanks for the chapter.
I have a theory, maybe Sofia are the remnants of the other superior dragon, and Root use her as a servant.

  29. thanks for the chapter!
wait what happened?! is it really sofia?
after I read the chapter, I don’t think she is the dragon slayer. Sofia said she was an experiment from root, and jin know someone with the exact (miranda) exactly like her, they are probably clone from the same experiment.
Root probably called her sofia to mess with makoto though…
but it make me wonder how many ‘sisters’ are there?
‘I am Aznoval…is the alias I go by as a knight -no I mean, an adventurer of ori– no, not that either, I am just passing by. By the way, where’s Tsige?’”
a single sentence and I already like him

    1. Superior dragons get reborn when they die and if shes his daughter or have his blood in her then it might be that she keeps being reborn over and over when killed and have no memory of her past life.

      1. so that mean miranda is the anterior version of sophia?
        I don’t remember sophia’s age, I always imagined her late 20′
jin is 20, that would make miranda die when he was under 10, that’s short but possible.

        1. The math doesn’t check out.
Makoto-and by extension Jin-was younger than Sophia when we first met her, which means that if she reincarnates, the last time she did so was a few years before Jin was born.
If I had to guess, Jin met the actual Sophia who was just operating under the alias of “Miranda”. Ooo…or maybe Sophia is actually the fake name that she took from someone else when she rebelled against Root?

    2. I remember someone saying that the goddess would send his servant to destroy tsige for doing something that is not to his liking, is that it?

    3. Aznoval is shaping up to be a pretty funny dude. Did anyone else get a kinda Golden Age Superman/ “Armstrong” vibe?
Where is Tsige in this world, incidentally? In my mind, it’s at the west end of the world.
Well, in either case, he’s somehow up in what’s considered nonhyuman territory a continent’s distance away from his goal.

        1. Literally on the other f*cking side of the known world…

Nah, I can’t be too hard on him. That land was hyuman territory less than 30 years ago. That’s, like, a week in immortal time.
Maybe he was dormant in that land and only recently woke up to find everyone gone and landmarks changed.

      1. Check that link for the map.
Tsige is not that far from Lorel.
How did Aznoval get lost to Kaleneon (near Demon Territory) all the way to the end of the map? His sense of direction must be ‘world class’.
        lol

  30. Root is just so whimsical, full of secrets and yet too important for the current society. His/her line of thinking is weird and sometimes incomprehensible.
I got a feeling the last boss is not the goddess, but Root. Kinda reminded me of Mushoku tensei (fuck that human god).
Thanks as always Reigokai. Its fine not releasing both chapters together, they’re not so related anyway, no cliffhangers too. Go at your own pace.

  31. so first Ginebia and the dancer chick are heading to Tsige from Lorel and now this knight Aznoval is heading to tsige from the north. are the adventurers of origin all spread out across the world and uniting in Tsige? most likely to kill Makoto for some reason given his bad luck.

  32. Given her superior dragon blood(and all the power she acquired from the other dragons)it might have been possible for Root to reincarnate her or something like that. Still She does seem bad but If I had to choose I like the old ver her this happy her gives me the shivers

  33. Ok, this chapter has soooo much surprise, and to think that we’re approaching the end of the cliff……the hang gonna be torturous……..like waiting for overlord

  34. Feel the Force! The Force is strong within you! My, this was totally unexpected; both the chapter and Sofia. Not only having Superior Dragon blood, but absorbing and using the power of five Superior Dragons. Shouldn’t she have some sort of ability like her Father’s?However, this all happy and gay Sofia gives me the creeps. Thanks for the chapter and still looking for the fight.

    1. I’m one with the force, the force is with me. I’m one with the force, the force is with me. I’m one with the force, the force is with me. I’m one with the force, the force is with me. I’m one with the force, the force is with me. I’m one …
      *hot lady walks past me*
… the force… WOW … the force is me. I’m with me. The force… the one.. the.. the force is wid mee.. *grins*

  35. Forgot to leave thanks on this chapter, thanks for the chapter.
Btw chapter 287 seems to disappear as I write this , some link problem ?

  36. sigh root and the damn bug just play around with life… both of them are a serious problem to the world, root seems less harmfull but im up to destroy his existence for remove problems and well the goddes its another matter, but in my honest opinion root seems like more like the friendly one at first sigh just to put a blade at ur neck at the less expected moment.
pd: excuse me for the messy english, best regards fellows and ofc my beloved reigo sama :3

  37. wow~~ didn’t expect sofia to pop up so abruptly during all these things that are happening! my condolences to makoto for his sad luck :p and thanks for the chapter~

    1. First time seeing you here Yuuki. Welcome!
Are you lost here, or you just arrive late?
Because we’re about to wrap up the translation with 6 chapters left to catch up to the RAW. In that sense, you have sad luck too..
Your friends must be looking for you now.
… I can help send you back to your world.
You only have to stand at the road… there.

  38. “Nice to meet you! It is an honor to make your acquaintance, Raidou-sama! At the orders of my father, Falz, I am on duty at the Adventurer Guild of Kaleneon, my name’s Sofia!!”
I shouted in that one… Tha falz… Root, really made it in this one…, i’m sure he/she just want to tease Makoto to show more emotions. It’s like he/she is in a cine theater, in wide screen full HD with good sound Dolvi digital… seing his favorite person 24/7… a truthly fearsome stalker
By the way, Reigo-sensei, thanks for the chapters… just the other day i recommended your work with my friends, and they liked it

  39. I never leave comments, But I must stop and say that I am extremely happy that Sofia was, resurrected? rebirthed? Built again? I always felt that her story was an extremely sad one, the more we read, the more Root falls in the “I am too old and too powerful to care for my actions” category and you could even say that he has the same personality that the goddess has, Makoto was just lucky to fall into his good side or he would be more of a pain. I also believe that her existence will help Makoto finally make the jump from black and white, to shades of gray, her “new” life would be living proof that people deserve second chances. Now the only thing that worries me is that his entourage of hyuman “companions” is growing, and with trashmoki lurking around we could have an issue in our hands. When is he going to pluck his eyes out?

  40. Thanks for the chapter. Usually in some series in some villain losses there memory it is because it is sealed and then later on the main villain will release their memory. Of course I trust Sofia right now since she has no memory of her previous life but if it is restored or unsealed who know what could happen. Right now I believe Makoto should still be on guard for right now on till he knows Root true objective is with him. I am also glad she is back as well during the beginning when she appeared I was kind of hoping that she would join Makoto group because she was very powerful.

    1. In 2 weeks time we will finish the remaining chapters.
Friends, someone is going to die falling off the ‘cliff’. We need to prepare funeral.

    2. Hmm. Actually, yeah…
If the last chapter is going to be a big cliff, who here would prefer Reigokai doesn’t end the translation on a cliff? Maybe hold it back on the least-cliffy chapter until the author releases the next non-cliff chapter?

    3. Then, Dewata and Truck-kun agree with the idea that Reigokai stop somewhere that is not a cliff.
But… I know that the latest RAW is where Kuzunoha and Rosègarden meet/ standoff for battle. That will be one heck of a steep cliff. I can see a lot of us fall to our demise. Hope my brake works that time.

      1. You know what would be a funny bit, actually?
If most of us just didn’t comment at all in the final current RAW translation because we’d all fallen into The Great Cliff.

  41. …uh? A loli Sofia? No, wait. If she’s a teen then it’s not a loli but a youthful Sofia. Not that she was old to begin with, but that’s not really the point here. Rather, the hell did you do you double perververted dragon?
Naturally, many thanks to Reigokai-sama for delivering us this chapter!
By the way, I found this image, it’s the cover of the 10th Volume for those that want to see Sofia (that is Sofia, right?)

  42. Holy…Seem like what a really thought about next on what would happen to Sofia become true after her death thinking that Sofia will just came out of nowhere and becoming friendly with the MC and so today lol
Kinda fishy here when it comes to root …remembering the spy camera that time lol no wonder root make her admire the mc
Some knight got lost lol out of nowhere
    Thanks for the chapter

  43. So… If I am not wrong, Sofia is well known as a Demon collaborator by the hyuman’s kingdoms after the latest demon invasion right? I can’t really see what root’s end games here ,unless this is all just for the lulz.

  44. I guess the reason Makoto look unease to happy Sofia is because he feel this is no Sofia.
It’s not that he want Sofia life to full of hatred or he prefer Yandere to deredere.
But seeing Root turn her into ‘better?’ Sofia leaving bad taste.
It’s like you ignoring one whole identity and Gia even her make over without her consent.
Sofia is Sofia we know because she’s experienced and grown from her hatred.
To sum up, seeing someone you know turn into someone else by someone hand give out bad feeling.

  45. so i was kinda on point for never trust this god damn dragon root, there are a LOT of victims of that stupid beast, and now hes trying to play with makoto, sigh we need another visit from the real gods from our side but theres a problem there too, that other follower to me its uber fishy….damn makoto its so damn easy to trick, why the fuck he was so force to accept that “girl” as a new one, when he has so much troubles atm… problems at asora and now outside as always…

    1. Ok, Ima refute you here, but to make it clear from the start I’m not a fan of Root either.
Root genuinely wants to be trusted by Makoto, but Makoto isn’t like others in the past that just follow the flow of events and gets tangled up in feelings and seduction so Root is lost in this point. And yes, Root has a deeper plan that involves a hostile takeover of the world from the Bug; he (she?) is used to have flings and love a transported person every now and then, people that are ‘interesting’ and he usually doesnt involve them in his plans because, they obviously aren’t going to live long enough to be affected by it. But Makoto is a very particular case, his hostile and hate towards the Bug put him in a sense of distrust towards higher beings. Like originally with Tomoe, Mio, Root, and all political influences. Yes, Root is capable of very inhuman things, but Sofia? this is his attempt to make up for the world of hate he accidentally created for her, and he trusts Makoto to guide her, she is also a chance for the two of them to get closer, at least that how Root would see it.
The greater power Makoto gets, he will be in place to force Root to spill all the secrets he (she?) holds, and on top of it Root will be one of Makotos greatest allies because the system implemented to fight the Bug will be taken over. No, i havent read any raw

      1. so just because makoto has much more power than root hes safe, if not he would be like those inmortal adventurers, sofia or many other victims hes dangerous and like to toy with life itself just to enjoy his curiosity about the world, and his guild system …. hes not bad or good, but still dangerous. im not saying i hate root but give me a lot of bad vibes the same as that new servant of makoto

      2. It could also be a way to monitor Makoto. I mean, Root can see through Sophia’s eyes after all. Just like that time Makoto “killed” Sophia.

      3. Yeah but the fact that Root just reset the girl kind of sweeps what sofia was mad about under the rug.

  46. Thank you returning the 8th dragon ball to Makoto, for now Shenron… Wrong series? What, Shenron is weak? Well, Sophia is still a fun character to be in the story…

    1. Yes. Wrong story.
We’re discussing Evangelion here… BTW, Shenron went to search for onepiece cause Nobita fall sick after his fight with Toriko.

      1. That legendary transformation during the tournament finals was pretty sweet though.
I thought Shenron was just fooling around, but gathering those 7 Entropy Drilla really paid off and led to a super satisfying curbstomp. Not that the God of the New World didn’t totally make me a fan with that brilliant memory gambit.

      2. I thought the only thing you did was throw people into other worlds, but apparently, you’re also trying to throw me off track too. Not cool man. Like really, Nobita was in a Coma because he thought he killed Shenron. Geez

        1. Right, Shenron felt guilty for that mindfuck he did to Nobita. All that happened after the tournament result, and Toriko is still hunting him while shouting “Ingredient…!”.
And where the hell is Naruto? That missing genin, I swear he’s becoming a villain like Mob

          1. Gintama comes with a gender bender situation and Shelton is…
Surprisingly still a guy. What does this mean?

      1. I think you’re giving Root far too much credit here.
I don’t remember anything ever implying that Root is anything but immoral. I’m willing to give Root the benefit of the doubt on his motives here and wait until he gives his explanation, but his track record has given me no reason to assume it’s good.
Besides that, I’ve already mentioned it but what happened to Sophia here is just as horrific as her death, if not more so, regardless of motive.
To put it in perspective, what Root did was forcibly reject all of Sofia’s feelings, desires, and history in favor of his own, more convenient, one. Maybe it’s for the better, and maybe Root genuinely thinks it’s for the better. But this is essentially brainwashing-or practically murdering someone’s personality while leaving their body a vessel for something else.
There’s a lot more thought and less rape involved, but this is pretty similar to what Tomoki does.

      2. Remember that Sophia was only able to eat the Superior Dragons because she’s basically a halfbreed to begin with. It makes sense that after absorbing them she might’ve pickup their reincarnation habit. Root even mentioned that something unexpected happened when he put her down. Toss in a dash of ‘Origin Sophie went by Miranda in the past for some reason’ and the facts line up nicely.

        1. Right. But I think Hibiki don’t force (bend) her will onto others. Mental suggestion or hypnosis is more likely similar to her ability.
This ‘T’ guy’s ability is more like a drug. Current usage of his charm skill seems on spot (the perfume).

        2. And Tomoe and Root have memory tampering.
Whatever happened to good ol’ fashioned psychological conditioning, huh?
…….Please dear god don’t let there be any direct psychological brainwashing. That would probably be the hardest to cure of them all due to the non-magic aspect of it.

  47. I think that people are misunderstanding Root’s actions. It seems to me that rather than this Sofia being the same as the dragon slayer, it is an entirely different consciousness. I think that Root probably has many daughters that all look very similar. Notice that Jin recognized her as Sister Miranda. Yeah, Root is definitely fucking with Makoto here, but I think it is in order to draw his interest so that Root’s secrets can be shared in the near future.

    1. If he can clone others, then there must be a lot of restrictions. Otherwise, he could just keep cloning his husband over and over, or even clone Makoto.
Then again, maybe he has and is keeping the clone in a hidden dungeon?

  48. Sophia is root daughter from root (women) with the first otherworlder.
So sophia is or can be considered to be half-dragon half-human.
Something like rebirth or like those dragon eggs.
When you defeat them, they just rebirth.
I’d say that root can already be considered Dragon God.
The fact that he can easily delete memories of other dragons.
And that other dragons (defeated and absorbed by previous sophia) got rebirthed into newborn egg.
I bet that unless you really kill root then other dragons can just rebirth after death.
    Including sophia.

      1. It was never specified wich grade of Familiarity Sophia holds with Root it wa only stated that she is his descendenth, not wich generation.

  49. I think that I can understand why Makoto can get that talk to stones and tress skill. Might be something that he get when residences in asora start worshiping/prying to him in the shrine.

      1. That shrine’s magic vessel; it’s the most intriguing foreshadow in the story. While others speculate that it will turn into another True Servant (Makoto’s follower), some even say that it is the egg of a Phoenix (not to be mistaken with our own perverted Phoenix in this website).
Remember, the vessel can only contain a little amount of Makoto’s magic power as it is almost full (while Makoto said that the amount taken from him is nothing compared to his sea-deep magic amount). It cannot turn into something on par with Makoto, or even any of his current followers. Something less powerful maybe.
I suggest that the vessel turn into a legendary beast, one that he can ride to battle with the main boss/antagonist.

        1. Oh shit. It was almost full with only a portion of Makoto’s magic pool?
Damn. I was really hoping that it was the dormant Tsukuyomi who would eventually revive in Asora, which is derived from his power.
