Chapter 261: Born question, born hatred

Previous Chapter l Next ChapterBefore Lorel existed as an union, there was a guild called ‘Apple’ that had unparalleled power in this land.

Whether this is true or false, this existence called Apple that was made up of a few elites was supposedly the model for the Adventurer Guild.

This part is probably the result of a mixture of various stories.

The Adventurer Guild is something that was created by Root, and the origin of it was his first husband.

If I remember correctly, it was created when he was involved with Elysion?

…Well, that’s only supposing Root isn’t lying at all.

In his case, he probably has a massive amount of truths he hasn’t spoken about, so I can’t trust him at all.

But if we base trust on that, who knows how much I can actually trust Shougetsu-san about what he is saying of Apple and Rokuya-san.

After all, the ‘adventurers of origin’ are words that denote the members of Apple. Even if you have met with people that have the same name, it is hard to believe that they are the same people.

In terms of how it feels, it would be like…on the same level as Momotaro is to japanese people.

Aznoval, Rokuya, Ginebia, Haku Mokuren, Hitsuna; it was formed with around 10 people, and their names are absurdly popular.

I heard there’s a lot of epics and anecdotes of them.

I was told that Rokuya-san has left numerous stories of being a chivalrous thief as an assassin.

“It is incredibly hard to believe that the said person is still alive though…” (Tomoe)

Tomoe’s comment is natural.

Hyumans don’t live that long.

When you reach a longevity on the level of Root, it is already to the point that you would question if they are immortal.

“Even if you tell me that he had the same age and appearance as the time when this Shougetsu-san over here received his training, its reliability is weak-desu wa.” (Mio)

Seems like the perception of Mio didn’t pick up much.

That’s true.

It would be more believable if I was told that the name Rokuya was being inherited every generation.

“Haku Mokuren and Ginebia…” (Iroha)

Iroha-chan seems to be groaning.

Looks like what Shougetsu-san said just now wasn’t something he has told her before.

Apparently, she was busy with politics and learning things.

Simply means that nobles have it hard in their own way.

Having a fiance at her age is already amazing.

Even though she is at the age where a primary schooler knapsack would still suit her.

“Apple huh. Lorel really is a country that has a lot of stories that don’t circulate to other countries.” (Makoto)

The Wise are the model example, but aside from that, I feel like this country is pretty secretive towards other countries.

Once you enter, the talks about it can be easily picked up, so I feel like it is a bit different from being secretive though.

Apple, the adventurers of origin, and then, there’s the reverence towards a dragon that’s not Doma, but one that’s name is Futsu.

It is truly a mysterious citizen nature.

“I truly have not met Rokuya-sama for several decades, but he said to go down till the 10th floor by tomorrow. It seems like his absurdities are still going strong…no, it has grown stronger with time. Hm, but his appearance was the same as in the past.” (Shougetsu)

Shougetsu-san has been looking nostalgic since a while ago as he reminisced Rokuya’s image.

As long as I am not kidnapped by Alt floors, we can reach the 10th floor by tomorrow.

That’s not a big deal, and if that’s his challenge, it overlaps with our original objective anyways.

Absolutely no problems at all.

“Hokuto, can you construct a route that reaches till the 10th floor?” (Makoto)

I once again confirm with Hokuto who has been the number one person looking after the map.

And in reality, the 10th floor must have several different types as well, and there would be no point if we can’t go lower than the 10th floor after that.

In other words, it would be best if it is a 10th floor that has good prospects of continuing onto the 20th floor.

“Yeah, there’s no problems. That grand labyrinth has a troublesome structure where the number of teleport formations and the amount of types in that floor increase the lower you go and it becomes more complex as well, but…there’s a certain tendency it inclines to that can be used as reference.” (Hokuto)

The first floor, Entrance, was crazy spacious place, but according to the Arke’s lecture on the labyrinth that even I can understand, the amount of floor types from the 2nd floor on increase steadily.

It is certainly true that if I look at Garden and the Alt floor that followed after, Entrance felt more spacious.

“Continue.” (Makoto)

“Yes, Waka-sama. Putting it plain, the higher the floor’s difficulty, the higher the possibilities of that floor to continue lower. If we take into consideration the words of that Rokuya person, it would be more likely to throw us into the Alt floors if we were to pass those said floors fast.” (Hokuto)

I see.

The more difficult the floor is the more likely it is that it will lead to lower levels.

Since we have to reach the 10th floor in one day, I thought that being abducted by the Alt floors would be pretty troublesome so I enquired about it, but…Rokuya-san instantly said he would turn them off.

With those words into consideration, Hokuto had deduced the concrete conditions of being thrown into an Alt floor.

Yeah, I didn’t read it that far in.

It seems like this time around we will be able to ignore them, so let’s just be happy about it.

I think that’s fine, yeah.

“Making a comparison of difficulties of each floor types, as long as you go down the most dangerous floor marked in the map, you will be able to definitely find the teleport formation for the next most dangerous floor. Since we haven’t tested it yet, it will stay as a hypothesis, but I think it is plenty worth to try in tomorrow’s plan.” (Hokuto)

“Right. Then you are saying that we can continue on in the same route as today, and as long as we choose the most dangerous ones, it would be less likely to reach a dead end. What do you think, Tomoe, Mio? I am in favor of Hokuto’s proposal.” (Makoto)

“If it’s something that Waka has decided on, there’s no objections.” (Tomoe)

“Same here. If Hokuto has proved himself useful, it is an honor-desu wa.” (Mio)

“That’s great.” (Makoto)

From tomorrow on, there’s no worries of ending up alone, and we have established a route already, so I feel like we can advance to the 10th floor.

…No, I should head for even higher heights instead of being satisfied with only that.

The decision of which ones are the most dangerous floors can be done by Tomoe, Mio, and I.

We will probably experience several dead ends even with that.

There’s no need to waste time.

If possible, I want to return before an urgent message comes from Tsige after all.

“Hm? What’s wrong, Iroha-chan?” (Makoto)

I look at Iroha-chan who nervously lifted her hand.

“I probably have met two of those Adventurers of Origin-desu.” (Iroha)

“…Eh?”

“When I was betrayed by the adventurers I left together from town, I was saved by this person with a dancer-looking outfit named Haku Mokuren and a woman with a foreign country’s priest outfit named Ginebia.” (Iroha)

“…Princess… By the way, do you remember any other outward traits of those two aside from that?” (Yuduki)

Yuduki-san who has been silent up until now, opened her eyes wide when she heard the words of Iroha-chan, and asks her more about their outward appearance.

A dancer and a priest.

Rokuya-san was an assassin.

I wonder what kind of party were the Adventurers of Origin.

“The two of them have silver hair; Haku-san is cheerful and refreshing, but a graceful woman. Ginebia-san is prudent, composed, and a kind woman. Both of them looked like they got along incredibly well, and they called each other partner. Both were adult women.” (Iroha)

A dancer and a priest calling each other partners.

It is a grouping I wouldn’t be able to picture well.

Leaving aside the girl called Ginebia, I feel like the cheerful and refreshing part of Haku doesn’t coexist well with the trait of being graceful.

“I have not met those two, but it is certainly true that their traits are the same as the ones from the Ginebia-sama and the Haku Mokuren-sama from stories.” (Shougetsu)

“Yeah, also…it matches too well with the Haku Mokuren-sama and Ginebia-sama that saved my homeland 18 years ago.” (Yuduki)

“To think that the princess had met with them, moreover, you were saved by them.” (Shougetsu)

Shougetsu-san and Yuduki-san seem to be pondering something.

However, a great amount of question marks were floating over my head.

I was thinking: ‘Isn’t 18 years ago pretty recent?’.

They were talking about it as if that were something normal, and no one is retorting to that. What’s going on?

Is it really a succession of names?

“Uhm, I don’t understand how people that appear in fairy tales are able to appear 18 years ago though.” (Makoto)

I go ahead and ask.

“Ah, right. I haven’t spoken everything about that topic yet. To tell you the truth, the people of Apple continue to appear every now and then in Lorel’s history. Always, even in the present day.” (Shougetsu)

“They continue appearing in history? Always?” (Makoto)

“There hasn’t been any records these decade, but it is just as said. I have not spoken much about it to others and it isn’t an incident that has much to do with history, but the most recent records of Rokuya-sama is probably when I was trained by Rokuya-sama around 50 years ago.” (Shougetsu)

“…”

I don’t understand even more.

Are they really immortal?

“Sometimes, when there’s some sort of crisis, they declare their names as people of Apple and cooperate in resolving the matter without having any feelings of self-interest and once again leave. For some reason, it is only in this country. It is one of the mysteries in Lorel.” (Shougetsu)

“And you are saying their names and appearances are always the same?” (Makoto)

Everyone from the Lorel group nod except for Iroha-chan.

They don’t show any signs of joking. Instead, I sense a feeling that’s close to worship from them.

Unbelievable.

Isn’t this already in the boundaries of horror?

“What a strange story-ja no. And they are calling themselves the ‘Adventurers of Origin’?” (Tomoe)

“No, that’s not it, Tomoe-dono. They don’t call themselves in that way. It is just that, from the information we have of them, we decided on calling them that way on our own volition.” (Shougetsu)

“…What do you mean by that-ja?” (Tomoe)

“For example; the leader of Apple, Aznoval-sama, was a former swordsman; Rokuya-sama who you met not that long ago, was a former thief; the dancer Haku Mokuren-sama was a former archer; Ginebia-sama was a former apprentice priest; the blacksmith Black Smith had a history of being a merchant in the past.” (Shougetsu)

“Fumu, and?” (Tomoe)

“The present jobs of the adventurers, it is said that the basic form of those jobs and the ideas of those were taken as a reference from them, and in truth, that’s exactly how it is…and there’s not a single one of the Apple people affiliated with the adventurer guild.” (Shougetsu)

“…Hoh. It is true that it is interesting…but that’s on the same level as saying ‘which one was first, the chicken or the egg?’ kind of thing, isn’t it?” (Tomoe)

“Probably. However, leaving aside things like a swordsman to a knight, and an ascetic practitioner into a priest; why is it that a thief grows into being an assassin, and why is it that an archer opens the path to being a dancer? Why is it that you can’t get the smithing skills unless you are a merchant? We consider that the adventurer guild used the brave people of Apple as a cornerstone.” (Shougetsu)

“…I see. Hearing that, it can serve as a decent explanation, and it would be pointless to hear all of it. But…it might be possible they used them as reference. The Adventurer Guild is not something that Root would be able to create from the memories of only one person after all. And it is not like he can do the same things as me anyways.” (Tomoe)

Tomoe does a short sigh and begins thinking about something else, she turns her view away from Shougetsu-san.

Shougetsu-san looked like he wanted to continue speaking, and I ended up locking eyes with him.

Well, it seems to be interesting, so let’s listen for a bit more.

“At present, in order to become a holy knight, you can’t simply be registered in the adventurer guild and turn from a swordsman into a knight, you also have to pile up a certain amount of religious experience. It would be too late by the time you are a knight, and conversely, if a priest that has gathered enough religious experience tries to learn the way of the sword, they wouldn’t be able to become holy knights. This is because the job branching alignments are different. That’s what they have told us.” (Shougetsu)

“The job branching…” (Makoto)

I remember the online games I played at Japan.

Like high ranked jobs and branching jobs.

It is truly that way of thinking.

Swordsman to knight or holy knight; ascetic apprentice to monk or priest.

In those cases, no matter how much an ascetic apprentice learns the sword, that person won’t be able to become a holy knight.

They wouldn’t be able to equip a sword to begin with.

But in reality, you should have the freedom to decide if you want to begin learning the sword or endeavour in religion. Whichever the origin, you should be able to become a holy knight. That’s what I think.

But that’s not the case in this world, moreover, an organization called Apple gave an explanation with words like ‘job branching’, and in truth, there’s a strange one way path in the jobs.

And then, there’s the human-loving Root.

Is that how it is?

“But well. Haku Mokuren is called a dancer, but her job is actually Muse Dancer; it is a job that the adventurer guild has not been able to confirm, an unknown job. Ginebia-sama’s job is similar in that sense, its name is Over Mash; the other members are also the same, and are said to possess incredible power.” (Shougetsu)

Yeah, it is true that I have never heard about those.

Or more like, Ginebia-san is a priest, right?

Her job doesn’t give me the image of praying though. Must be my imagination.

Iroha-chan did say that she is composed and kind after all.

“In that case, the abnormal presence of that Rokuya person, I should consider it a special skill? That technique that was on the level of changing perception itself. It was on a level I wanted to make it my own though.” (Mio)

Mio talks about that stealth of Rokuya-san.

Don’t joke around.

Please let it be a super special rare unique skill.

An ultimate attack would be perfect.

With only the imitation of Reft’s reflect ability, Shiki and Tamaki are already in tears.

“Okay! Anyways, I will be counting on everyone to work hard in the grand labyrinth tomorrow! And so, I won’t be able to take much care of you guys, so Shougetsu-san’s group, be careful. The whole town reeks of danger after all.” (Makoto)

“I will keep it to just the minimum information gathering. It is embarrassing to say, but we still haven’t decided on our plan yet.” (Shougetsu)

“Let’s at least be grateful that the hotel is safe.” (Makoto)

“That’s true.”

“Then, time to sleep—” (Makoto)

“It is obviously fine for us to be first to the bath, right Shougetsu?” (Tomoe)

Eh?

This pattern again?

“W-Well, of course. We are in your care after all.” (Shougetsu)

“Good. Then, Waka.” (Tomoe)

“Let’s go, Waka-sama. We will be missing Iroha, so…Shii, you come. I will allow it.” (Mio)

Huh?

“M-M-M-Me?!” (Shii)

Being suddenly thrown that, Shii fell into panick.

And I raised the white flag.

We two, who were being carried by Tomoe and Mio, were taken to the bath.

But Shii, if it were Eris who you respect so much, she would say ‘Yes, sir!’ without a single shred of hesitation.

As I thought, your roots are more similar to those of Akua.

◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆

“That face…did it not work, Rokuya-san?”

“Sorry there! He was an interesting guy, you know? You definitely gotta meet him! I have turned the Alt floors off for a few days, so take care of that, okay?!” (Rokuya)

“O-Off. No well, I’m okay with that though. Trying to seriously manage them is a pain anyways.”

20th floor of the grand labyrinth.

For the people living there, this place has been called Rosegarden.

First floor Entrance, tenth floor Palace, and the twentieth floor Rosegarden.

These floors are floors that only have one type.

The light is taken in from the outside with a special method, so those floors are bright.

By utilizing this, you can do farming and also hunting.

That’s right. Rosegarden has no need for economic activity, it is completely self-sufficient.

If you wanted to, you would be able to continue living without influencing the world at all.

At a section of it, at the deep parts of the residential area, Rokuya was talking with someone.

“No well, I also think it is interesting. It has been a while since that has happened. But you know, at this time…it is just…”

“Even though he is a hyuman, he possesses power that surpasses that of humans. A pure breed Elf, a Superior Dragon and the Black Calamity disguised as hyumans, a child of the calamity, Iori’s favorite sword, and an Elder Dwarf. On top of that, one princess of Kannaoi.” (Rokuya)

“…Is this the feeling of a super big event?”

“I have stopped joking about those kind of things, but…well, in the past, I would have said that. The people above ground are in that state after all.” (Rokuya)

“More than half of that is because of the hero, right? If that’s the case, I am somewhat responsible for it, so I kind of want to do something about it though.”

The tone of the man that was talking about his connection with the hero was somewhat heavy.

“…What’s with that tone?” (Rokuya)

“If he is neutral, I would want to meet him, seriously. My standing right now is a bit complicated. Putting it plainly, if I were to meet Raidou, there’s one girl who would snap.”

“…I have not heard anything about that though.” (Rokuya)

Rokuya narrows his eyes at the words of the man.

From what Rokuya knows, the Kuzunoha Company and their employees have no bad connections with the members here.

“Right. It seems like the habitual actions of Raidou are not that good. Just like me.”

“It didn’t look that way to me.” (Rokuya)

“Do you know Pione from Rosegarden?”

“If I remember correctly, I spoke with her a few times. She was a diligent girl.” (Rokuya)

Rokuya digs out the memory of a girl.

He met her recently; a bright, eager about everything, and an adventurer that has worked hard.

She entered the mercenary group, and has begun fitting into the residents of the 20th floor.

His impression of her was good.

“Yeah, her reputation around was good as well. Her ability was also decent. That girl’s close friend…got her head crushed by Raidou. Not that long ago.”

“…Oh. And that has been known by this Pione girl?” (Rokuya)

“That’s right. Pione herself brought that girl here, and asked me to release the charm of the Empire’s hero from her. And yet…she escaped in the middle together with her companions. The event with Raidou happened while Pione was in the middle of searching for them.”

“…”

“Aside from the person herself, her other two companions were killed in an instant as well. Ah, the other two weren’t close enough to be called friends, they were more like acquaintances. Right now, Pione is…”

“Are you saying, not only will they not talk, they will end up fighting?” (Rokuya)

“I won’t ask for the assistance of the people of Apple, and I also don’t have the authority for that anyways. It will probably turn out as you say. We are at home here and the Marikosans have increased a lot in numbers. On top of that, Picnic Rosegarden and I will be meeting the enemy. I am sorry for them but…we won’t lose.”

“Are you and the Marikosans going to mobilize as well?” (Rokuya)

“When I was resting here, Pione took care of me after all. I am sorry for Raidou, but I will be taking her side.”

The words were said lightly, but it didn’t sound like a joke.

Even after hearing the battle force that Raidou possesses, he declared that he will be opposing Raidou.

“This must be what people call ‘Fate’.” (Rokuya)

“It might be exactly that. If I didn’t know her, this wouldn’t have happened.”

“…But this is interesting!” (Rokuya)

“Hah?”

“Wouldn’t that mean I will be able to see something incredibly interesting?! I don’t know about the others, but I will…right, let’s take the disadvantageous side. Hahaha!” (Rokuya)

“You say that with such ease.”

“I have been in worse situations than these after all. Also, I know about you, Raidou, and Vivi. Well, I don’t know much about Raidou though. But I can somewhat tell, you know. That things will settle somewhat harmoniously.” (Rokuya)

“You are saying things similar to Azu-san. Could it be, you have been influenced by that person? I have my hands full with just one, so please spare me more.”

“Hahahaha!! You really have your way with words huh. But I feel the same way!” (Rokuya)

A conversation that Raidou wouldn’t find amusing at all was being exchanged at the deepest parts of the grand labyrinth.

He will probably only notice that he was caught in an extra-large trap by the time he meets with his negotiation target who has already hardened their forces to attack.

The future of the Kuzunoha Company’s grand labyrinth exploration is still unclear.

Spoiler-san remembers the taste of Nepu. That’s what caused Spoiler-san to take form of Nepu. Even though it’s the highest ranked taste, even according to the heavens… DON’T EAT NEPU! You are what you eat, and Nepu makes sure of that.

  2. Woo~ Thanks for the chapter.

So I guess this group is something of a proto-Kuzunoha? I’m kind of curious what sort of legend Kuzunoha is going to become in a couple of centuries now…

    1. You’re right. They even have their own lesser version of Asora.

As for Kuzunoha. What if it becomes a collective term for a pantheon of gods? The Kuzunohian Gods, residing in paradise called Asora.

    2. i am more excited when they notice “oh shit raidou is just south of a god…. fuck and we attacked him”.

      1. Tomoe herself is already a demigod of sort, Mio is a force of nature(or rather the anthromorph of Gluttony), and Shiki (although he’s just a hacked undead) is strong enough to overwhelm an Earth spirit. Don’t even need to start talking about the “normal” citizens. Eris the elf is becoming the messiah of Athena.

    3. nice catch. but KuzuCorp totally overwhelms them in scale. Rosegarden is like secret social club while Asora is whole new world with 2 small armies in the sea and on land.

  3. Ha hahahah, he thinks he can beat Makato, if Makato doesn’t take it seriously then sure. But if he makes him snap by let’s say harming Mio and Tomoe (unlikely) then the labyrinth is screwed. Plus it’s not his fault that the girl tried to kill him

    1. Let’s be fair here. According to even Ranks 6-8 Common Sense, he’d be right.

It’s not his fault he’s not expecting an eldritch abnormality that distorts the laws of probability itself.

      1. Well they know the true identities of everyone in Makoto’s party and still willing to fight should mean they are considerably strong. I mean they know about the Calamity Spider and a superior Dragon and still think they can, so it should be a good fight. Though “Sofia believe she could take on Makoto as well and we know how that turned out

      2. well, their analysis of the power of a supreme dragon is probably based on Doma. On the other hand Tomoe/Shen was second only to Root. And she has grown even more powerful than before. (I don,t mean her level. Level is irrelevant when it comes to Shen and Root and co. Root already explained it as well that levels don’t represent real power, but is instead only the equivalent experience of kill counts)

As for Mio, the Black Calamity Spider, they probably simply think that they would have been able to beat it, but their basis is the out of control spider on a mindless rampage, but Mio has her mind now(which makes her a lot more dangerous, without even counting her new abilities). What’s more, I think her regen by itself would be enough to survive Root’s strongest attack, so they are wrong in thinking they would have been able to kill her past mindless self. Heck, had she received Root’s biggest attack, she would have probably just absorbed it while regenerating and gained her sanity back, but wouldn’t have died.

    2. the whole killing the three left me feeling a little weird even when it was happening though.
he spent a bit of time figuring out how to let gorgons look people in the eye and he has a not quite a skelly researcher back home now to help research. i expected a little more proactive curse removal investigating instead of a pew pew pew three dead people. he seemed to me like the kind of person that would take pity on the heroes victims even if he didn’t proactively search for and cure them.

      1. Well take in consideration that to Makoto eyes they are just puppet now, empy corpse that follow trashmoki orders without question….

Also I think that releasing them from the charm would be traumatic, they were pratically raped for a very long time by the hero (and some of them are pregnant or had a child)…try to immagine the impact for their minds…

    3. “The future of the Kuzunoha Company’s grand labyrinth exploration is still unclear.”
      – the only thing unclear is whether there will be enough of Rose Garden left alive for him to try to hire.
      Thanks for the chapter

    1. We’ve come a long way….

Remember when Makoto finally acted on his harem back then? His sudden decision was super surprising, right!? Yet, it didn’t feel unnatural or out of character by then.

      1. Well, I didn’t expect those two girls that confessed to him in the previous world would chase him to another world. Man, did Makoto snapped when Trashmoki tried to brainwash them. A public beat down that surprised everyone. Then cutting off Trashmoki’s manhood before decapitating him.

        1. Really? Those girls following him wasn’t really surprising to me. It sounded like something like that was set up to happen eventually. I just didn’t expect that Aphrodite would be the one to bring them to this world-probably because I suspected Bug was Aphrodite herself.

While the third Tomoki beatdown was really satisfying, what really shocked me was that Makoto could actually use Sakai to mimic the moon’s effects and kept him immortal during broad daylight. I guess it shouldn’t be that surprising, considering Sakai came from Moon deity Tsukuyomi, but that really caught me off-guard.

I feel like that was a hardcore flag for Makoto making use of the trash’s immortality later on, but as expected, the author is dragging it out and nothing’s come of it yet. It brings up the question of whether or not the full moon in this mysterious new “third world” can activate it too.

      2. Wait WAIT BACK UP!!!! WHERE DID Y’ALL READ THIS?! I mean “spoilers” but WTF guys. Is this in the chapter to come or in the raw?

      3. Surprising indeed. To think that even root would have been part of the harem is the biggest surprise. Makoto sure have come a long way. So I guess the temptation was just too much. But man, I still can’t believe how awesome the author was able to weave roots motivations in the story. Just plain brilliant writing.

      4. If you guys forgot those important plot points, then you must have forgotten the little tidbits like Tomoe doing the macarena,. I always find that scene funny..

      5. I love how even Makoto’s followers have followers now. Shiki using that dimensional door as a tower-shield is the definition of bad-ass. I laughed my ass off when he shut down Tomoki’s nuke by shield-bashing him to the moon. Tomoki can’t even die while he has the moon’s full “blessing” so he’s just trapped there, perpetually suffocating.

      6. Lol there are people losing it. It seems they haven’t realized the purpose of this great string of comments. I’ll give those guys a hint. Read very carefully psychronias’ comment.

      7. i’m laughing my ass off for people who didn’t get the joke xD

but man, i wasn’t expecting Makoto to even drill the heavens of his Senpai former school president hero and breaking her body and soul and ended up impregnating her leaving her alone in a lone world where she is the only human with Makoto’s son.

    1. You give him too much credit. I don’t think he’s capable of planning something like this.

In fact, f*cking him is probably all there is, on top of satisfying his ego.

      1. You’re forgetting Lily. I wouldn’t even trust Tomoki to piss on himself, if he was facing upwind in a hurricane, with his pants still on.

    2. Yeah, I got a weird vibe from that Pione girl. It all depends on whether the guy Rokuya was talking with can actually sense Tomoki’s Charm ability affecting others.

If he can’t, then Pione might have been planted there to create drama in their group in order to create division in their ranks, making them easier to deal with.

After all, Tomoki’s Charm also works on those that are stronger than him (otherwise, how could he charm anyone when he just got summond), up to a certain point, and he could have been just barely able to do it to Pione (who I’m assuming is stronger than Tomoki, if she managed to join the Picnic Rosegarden, while Tomoki struggled on ALT 3).

I wouldn’t put any of it past Lily. If this is all part of a plan, then Lily is definitely the one behind it.

  4. Thanks for the chapter!

wow chapter 6011 already, it seems like it was yesterday that I was reading chapter 260, so nostalgic! XD

  5. He is not afraid of Timoe and mio, this is interesting. He will regret he pick up a fight with makoto, I can’t wait and see his reaction when fighting him. I feel like the lambyrith will add more floor after the fight or sees to exist. Thanks for the chapter. =)

  6. so confusing… can someone help me understand this whole Apple, Adventures of Origin, Mercenary Rose Garden, and master of the labyrinth?

    1. Apple are called the “Adventurers of Origin” said to be the basis of adventurer’s guild job classes so they must have some connection with Root and her husband, could be immortals or just no life span (will die if they are killed). Rokuya (this Root-like guy), Haku and Ginebia (girls who helped out Iroha) are members of it.

Picnic Rosegarden are mercenaries well-known and admired in lorel. Could be Apple’s apprentices? One of their members, Pione is friends with one of the girls that attacked Makoto and got killed so now she and her friends will take revenge.

Master of labyrinth doesn’t really want to fight with Makoto but since he is indebted with Pione, he will fight with them. Rokuya will also help them because it’s “interesting”. So the incoming fight will be:
Rosegarden + Labyrinth Master + Rokuya(with the chance that whole Apple will join in) vs Kuzunoha

    1. So do I, but in the same way I feel sorry for common thugs facing Batman.

It’s rough and they have no idea what horrors are in store for them, but…I still really wanna see it.

  7. now that i have read it, does it mean it will only turn into a one side thrashing?

the enemy will throw everything but makoto will just thrash them down, since they are enemies, IF he knows it, and if thats Doma he’s dead again

  8. Looks like Makoto’s callous psychopathy has come back to righteously bite him on the ass.
    ~ Huzzah !

    1. Mate I wouldn’t say at that time he killed the chick to chalk it up to psychopathy. Granted he didn’t really try to save them but I don’t think he gives 2 shits about the people on the enemy team and much less making the effort to do so. If anything that is going to bite anyone in the ass is the idiots in the dungeon thinking that they can take on an eldritch being with no qualms of killing anyone that presents a threat to him and can easily just make a fucking crater out of their base EVEN WITH THE GODDAMN KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT HE IS CAPABLE OF!

      1. ” I wouldn’t… chalk it up to psychopathy ”
        ” I don’t think he gives 2 shits about the people ”
        ~ That’s called psychopathy.

And yeah, I’m not saying Makoto’s going to have trouble fighting them, I mean he’s screwed up the mission and reason he’s here. He has shot himself in the foot diplomatically.

      2. Wouldn’t that just be Apathy then? A lack of giving a shit about killing the enemy? Granted I don’t know much shit about psychology and all that but isn’t psychopathic meaning that he would be crazy or unhinged in some way? Not saying he has some odd things about him with some moral problems but he seems rather stable for a human being aside from his apathetic attitudes sometimes towards killing or helping people although it is understandable on why he takes such an extremely neutral stance. If anything I find it quite crazy or stupid for the other side to try to attack Makoto for clearly defending himself and more so without even interacting with Makoto at all. Hell that “master” I think understands the situation but is clearly doing nothing to dissuade the unreasonable behavior of one member(pione) that is probably be more psychotic than Makoto at the moment if she is willing to risk herself and the entire group with all this information on hand. Granted revenge and hatred is unreasonable at times but this chick is just outright picking a fighting with someone who is clearly capable wiping their entire team off the board but holds no ill will towards them but she is picking a fight because her friend attacked him whilst under mind control and was killed in the process.

        1. Well the problem here is that they still measure Makoto in the wrong scale, they asumme that his power is still in the realm of mortals and not where he can compete with Gods. I think thats the confidence that the Laberynth guy has, like when Makoto first met Root, there was still a chance for him to lose and guet harmed by Root, but as soon as he completed the armor training, that chance beceme null. I think that guy thinks that Makoto is still the same as when he met Root.

      3. Being apathetic about harming others is a defining aspect of psychopathy. Psychopaths aren’t necessarily unhinged.

“I find it quite crazy or stupid for the other side to try to attack Makoto for defending himself. . .without even interacting with Makoto ”
Yes, I agree. They’re reacting in an irrational emotional way to the death of their associate. They should kill Tomoki.

That said, Makoto did murder them when they posed no real threat, for something he knew they had no real control over.

      4. @A Stop sign I should probably look more into psychology more to see what defines it and which way it goes but if what your saying is true thx for the info. Also yea the girls posed no threat to him and to a degree I still agree with people that situation where he was attacked could of been handled better but still to me self defense is self defense and kind of hard to blame Makoto for emphasizing prioritizing his own safety and needs over a group of girls attacking him whom he really doesn’t know.

        1. If I remember correctly, psychopathy and sociopathy are virtually the same thing: they mean a person is incapable of empathizing with other people and generally don’t have a moral code. Usually, they mimic behavior simply because that’s what they think they’re supposed to do and feel upon certain social cues. The reason people classified as these are usually seen as manipulative monsters or serial killers is because they have less reservations about doing what they need to in order to get what they want.

The main difference between the two is that psychopathy is a mental disorder you’re born with and sociopath is learned, usually from traumatic experiences.

As Sancturillore mentioned, Makoto isn’t actually completely apathetic. He feels attachment to people and such, so he isn’t really a textbook psychopath. Whatever is his actual problem we can’t say, but I’m of the thought that he was born with it instead of learning it through his extreme childhood.

          1. I think that they are not the same, the only thing in common that both have is the lack of empathy, while one is cold, detached, with no feelings whatsoever, the other is a malestorm of emotion, but highly oszcilative they can go from eiphoric lauguer to mad depretion in a moments notice. And comlpetely selfish individuals, they have no consideration for anyone else but themselves, they people they love or hate mattar only to satisfie them.

      1. That list already includes a full stop, but it’s tiny so you have to zoom in to notice that it’s octagonal and says ‘STOP’ on it.

    1. Makoto should have shot their knees out. The town guard is always looking for a few good ex-adventurers.

  9. Anyone else notice the Ragnarok Online reference?

    Swordsman > Knight / Crusader
    Archer > Dancer
    Thief > Assassin
    Acolyte > Priest / Monk
    Merchant > Blacksmith

      1. I don’t think RO is the first one to implement the job system like that. But probably is the famous/more known one than other media. Even Nexia/Nexus use the same job progression system and it came out way before RO.

So no, it’s not an RO reference… And no, RO is not the first game to use the job progression system…

      2. Pretty sure its an Ragnarok Online reference. While job progressions aren’t something new you have to look beyond that to narrow it down specifically to RO. One was how jobs are a fixed single path along with the specific “archer > dancer”, “swordsman > crusader”, “acolyte > monk”, this filters out quite a few games since it would be hard to find one that matches the specific job sets. Looking at Rokuya as an assassin using a pair of katar’s. cut out games that don’t have katars. There’s also another reference that Haku Mokuren is infact a 2-2 advance class Gypsy, since they mentioned her class is “unconfirmed” and something more powerful than just being a dancer. The only odd part is making sense of the Gineba “Over Mash” since it should be “High Priest” if she was. The adventures of origins mentioned there were 10 members, this matches up with 1 of each of the RO’s second classes.

    1. Been a long time since I played, but yeah I noticed. But then again, I think some other games also follows similar templates for the jobs.

  10. aaaand, this is why killing without hesitation while advantageous at first… and sometimes the strategically smart move (at the time) you have to live with the consequences of the fallout and expect the revenge flag xD lol good thing for mako-rai he’s got the plot power of OPness

    Thankee for the chapter~

  11. Well… Makoto-kami’s luck is already god-like like him huh. The chapter title though XD
(I read this when there were only 29 comments)

    Thnx for the chappy~ Nanodesu~

  12. i now understand why those dress that makoto went are just absurd to him, it might be because of those apple guys as well

  13. “When I was resting here, Pione took care of me after all. I am sorry for Raidou, but I will be taking her side.”

Lol dude i dont know who he is but i know how he look like…( a person with white shining armor with holy white sword in his hand and riding a white horse)…

  14. I feel like… If Makoto simply stopped using Sakai, and released his magic power while inside the dungeon, he would have effectively conquered the dungeon then and there, and most likely cause it to collapse.

  15. Can’t really blame makoto since the supposed to be “strong” member of of the merenary group let the “dolls” escape only to be crushed by him because trashmoki ordered them to kill Makoto or something….literally
    Thanks for the chapter~~

  16. they are high level in different sense huh?
people who can change jobs are not just high level, but high proficiency too.
like how it was in Ragnarok Online. i mean, blacksmith after merchant? that’s direct reference right?

  17. Wait, does this mean ALL of Picnic Rosegarden will attack Kuzunoha? Welp, negotiations have already broken down before ever starting. Asora’s gonna have to protect Tsige on its own now.

    RIP mercenary-sans
    RIP Aion Kingdom

  18. “Even though she is at the age where a primary schooler knapsack would still LOOK GOOD ON her.”

It would be better if you changed it to

“Even though she is at the age where a primary schooler knapsack would still SUIT her.”

  19. Question few chapters till the end of the story or few to catch up to the author b/c i can’t see how 15ish chapters will conclude the battle with these guys and the goddess…

  20. btw its not anyone concerned about the child of the calamity ? as far i could understand the girl he mention its probably root or lorel leader. still the child of calamity is it tamaki ? anyway somehow or another if it comes on a fight i hope doesnt get lost or a draw. cuz if that happen the fear that exist for makoto will easily dissapear and 70% plot development will happen to every country attack him thinking there its already a power on equal to him, and the fun in thi novel its him though not having much experience in real battles he its completely obliterating the enemy.

    1. I think he’s only talking about Makoto’s current party so my guess “a child of calamity” is Hokuto since he is Mio’s kin.

    2. The “Child of the Calamity” is surely the Arke Hokuto. Remember that the Arke have “the lower-half of a spider and the upper part of a human.” Mio describes them initially as her “kin” (chapter 14).

  21. Pathetic, THEY going for revenge while Great Being (Makoto’s group) are going to them as it make them one-side crusher. People will always say this as one way or another due to weak response on WHOM to WHO FAULT that the Hero have their way on beginning as one shot equal one kill. BUG!!!

“That person have fallen as fallen means their life and will are dead no matter what.”

Their BLAME are their DEATH in short world

  22. OMG! The chapters are going to catch up in a HUGE cliffhanger… I can feel it in my bones.
@Reigokai: You probably replied to questions like this countless times but, is there any chance of you picking up the LN translation if we buy you the RAW’s? Going months without TgM (or maybe years) is gonna be seriously depression inducing.

    1. I got the raws yet haven’t read them so I don’t know how much different the LN is.Maybe there’s a few omissions to keep a regular number of pages and some changes on the writing to adapt to the illustrations?

  23. Thanks for the chapter~
“I have stopped joking about those kind of things, but…well, in the past, I would have said that. The people above ground are in that state after all.” (Rokuya)

“More than half of that is because of the hero, right? If that’s the case, I am somewhat responsible for it, so I kind of want to do something about it though.”

~So trashmoki virus is spreading in lorel now? That dude really needs to be exterminated or at least his charm powers.

    1. Btw, it seems that Rokuya is going to help out rose garden

-“Wouldn’t that mean I will be able to see something incredibly interesting?! I don’t know about the others, but I will…right, let’s take the disadvantageous side. Hahaha!” (Rokuya)

But unluckily raised a nightmare flag for himself

-“In that case, the abnormal presence of that Rokuya person, I should consider it a special skill? That technique that was on the level of changing perception itself. It was on a level I wanted to make it my own though.” (Mio)

Anyone remembers a certain traumatized demon general?

  24. Chapter 6011 …

    WHAT YEAR IS THIS ??
I’ve travelled too far to the future, need to go back.
No no no no no ….
You guys don’t spoil anything, I got A LOT to catch up.

See you people in another 20 years ! Bye!

    1. Thank You Reigokai, as always and will always.

20 years needed to catch up to your latest chapter 6011 . I’ll be gone (reading in my garage) for a long time, so good bye for now.

I will miss Anhambre’s food, Dicky Satria’s dad jokes, will miss seeing Psychronia’s weird reactions… oh, Rusaku Nepu too, you still running? and I’ll miss watering that Phoenix, even miss that bot Seinvolf. Paps, I’ll remember what you did to my tyres. What happened to Truck-chan and Secret Agent? Too afraid of me I guess. Pollosama, that purple menace, I’ll miss you too. Also, Thelurking1, who always pervertly stalk my posts, and RedColonel who often make fun of my drawings. Damn. I’ll miss Kaelpie, ‘Cat’ Jinsan and Rick, they might, or might not hate me for running over them. Sorry, tee hee… Dark Jackel, I know you’re reading this, will miss you. Also, the chuuni Zombie. No, I didn’t forgot you Ohmariow (Spoiler-san in disguise). Special mention to Santurillore, Goo21, Setsuka, Passerby, No One, Armocalypsis, Fukuda, xShugox, Santoryun, Thorlong, Pringlestorian, you guys rocks (hard). Moi’chlo, I’ll answer you now, the chicken comes first. Tensai no Tenshi, Phy, Ranobesuki, why did you guys and girl disappear, hiding from me? I’ll find you… I’ll also miss Natchi96 and Nekurafujoushi, why you never comment nowadays? Alski, Ayka61, you two too. Makro1248, I remember you and your attempted spoiler. (Well , that’s everyone on my kill list).

Goodbye everyone ! Will miss you all ! See you in the future !

  25. Here’s a thought. What if it’s like in the WN Lazy Dungeon Master, where the dungeon can encompass a greater area than people assume?

Then what if the dungeon here actually has spread influence over the entire Lorel Union, and Apple group are sort of part of the dungeon. That’s why they don’t appear outside Lorel Union’s territory, and are able to display such unusual abilities, as well as having unnatural longevity.

  26. Thanks for the chapter! Now I’m really waiting for the confrontation, let’s think …Makoto will probably clear the 10th floor by tomorrow, and rokuya will be waiting for him there. Then, he will say something that will bring a bad feeling for Makoto, in the next 10 floors he will probably find more marikosans (including the one from the alt floor number 3), information will about the dungeon and the group will be told (and maybe some about the apple). When they get to the 20th floor Makoto will definitely be surprised, also could be that another event happens just before entering the 20th floor. Let’s see how much will actually happen. How will you face this Makoto?

  27. Thanks for the chapter, Reigo-senpai!

Well… I don’t really remember what happens next, which also explains Spoiler-san’s silence on that matter. Also, 13 chapters left before caught up.

I don’t know what Reigo-senpai’s gonna translate next, but I’m REALLY hoping for Janitor-san. That “My class got reincarnated and I became the weakest skeleton” has already been picked up by someone else.

    1. Someone already picked up Weakest Skeleton. An extra chapter and a part of the next chapter has already been translated.

        1. I must have misread your comment.
Truck-kun has been watering me, so my brightness dimmed somewhat.

  28. OK, some things are now becoming clear. Before the Adventurers’ Guild was formed by Root some 1000 years ago (if I recall correctly), there was a group of Japanese who were brought to the Goddess’s world. They joined together to form a party named “Apple”, became very powerful, and retired into a pocket-universe labyrinth that they either created or found and repurposed. Now, a thousand years later, they are still alive. They’ve accumulated a group of followers called “Picnic Rosegarden” whose main job is to keep the groundlings up in Lorel and elsewhere from bothering them with ephemeral concerns.

So, how did they become immortal? Two thoughts.

Firstly, “Apple” might be short for the Golden Apple of Norse mythology:

In Norse mythology, the golden apples are the source of the gods’ immortality and perpetual youth; comparable to the role of ambrosia in Greek mythology. They are cultivated by—and most often associated with—the goddess Iðunn.

Perhaps the party succeeded in finding a Golden Apple Tree and cultivating it underground. Their party would have taken its name from the successful search for the tree.

Secondly, back in Chapter 157, recall that Hibiki asks a god about gaining the power to travel back in time, and is told that such a power would shorten her lifespan. She complains, and is told in return:

“Ahaha. There’s a hidden technique about this as well. You have to give up being a human, but if you change into a race that doesn’t grow old and has no lifespan, the demerit would disappear. If you weren’t black, you wouldn’t be able to use a power that interferes with time, but after leaving this place, there won’t be problems if you just forsake your humanity”

Could the members of Apple have succeeded in forsaking humanity and changing themselves into Superior Dragons? That would account for the apparent existence of a dragon Futsu not known to any of the declared Superior Dragons. It would also explain how Rokuya is able to recognize Tomoe and Mio so easily – he is simply recognizing his own kind.

    1. Good catch on the part with Hibiki. I completely forgot about that exchange.

Also the second one does not exclude the first one, since eating the apple could be the trigger for changing ones race, which incidentally has immortality as a trait. And since we know that the author likes to mix in stuff from different mythologies, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was as you said.

Alternatively, they could have been either the first people summoned, and received their longevity as one of the gifts, or they were summoned separately at different times, but it just so happens that they were the ones to choose immortality as a gift and outlived anyone else who got summoned.

  29. hohoho ~ then prepare the “Stand” attack oh Dungeon Master ~ and “adventure of Origin” bunch ~ !!!
its no good to confident that you say “will wont lose” when you don’t know the true strength of your enemy… that bad mistake you know ~ don’t blame the “Stand” if he destroy your beloved dungeon….

and this revenge thing is absurd… if they knew how they got killed… they should know why they got killed by Makoto… and yet they already branded Kuzunoha as Enemies because of that…. Laughable indeed…
“self-defense” is loathed on that world isn’t?

    1. They adopt the bros before hoes code with mental impairment mixed in. They choose to side with a moody member who has the sole fault for the girl’s death since she let them get away but hey ..let’s blame it on smbdy else and be guilt free. Hope Makoto, MIo and Tomoe + Shii and Hokuto rekts them all.

  30. Btw, since it’s obvious their job titles are based on RO, I think it’s better to change those names to what the RO jobs are.

    Swordsman -> Knight and Crusader

    Acolyte -> Priest and Monk

    1. M-Megumin?

Huh, I guess we finally found out the identity of that bug. It was Aqua all along.

      Then that makes Makoto… Kazuma?

Then the last one on the list is Darkness… Hmm, I guess that would explain Root’s character traits…

No, wait. I still forgot to identify Megumin. If we go by the trump card alone, that would fit Tomoki then, but I don’t want to acknowledge that so… Who else wasn’t mentioned yet but was responsible for a huge explosion, or at least tremendous damage?

There’s Mio, who went around the world leaving a trail of destruction. But there was also that time she competed with Tomoe in that first town they went to, which left it completely destroyed… I guess Sophia also counts? Otherwise it’s Makoto or Root again… I guess I can’t decide.

  31. Thanks. Poor empress, she didn’t know what the heck is happening in their dungeon… she’s going to wake up with her dungeon destroyed, her strongest warriors dead and get blamed for the assassination trap. LOL

  32. Demi god vs god’s apprentice, ooo I’m hyped now
Leaving aside Makoto almost unlimited mana pool I think their special abilities will become troublesome, it’s something that tapping on master system afterall.
And Mio and Tomoe also will have difficult fight this time, since the other party has advantages in number, or at least I hope I can somehow see some serious Makoto this time, I’m hyped.

    1. why would it be hard?
all Makoto needs to do is know how they look and “see” and arrow stuck in there skull and then release his arrow and they have an arrow stuck in there skull simple as that(you know the ability that he has that hits something no matter what happens is very OP)

  33. I never will agree with all of that bullshit,…..
She was my friend and he killed her….. bitch, if she was your friend , you could do something about the charm. Nose, you díd nothing, and now you blame the poor guy, who Had to kill them, cause, oh bitch , They went to kill him….
    I call that bullshit,
But worries not, you will awake soon to the despair, when you take a glimpse of makoto power…. try to not piss in your panty …..

  34. Called it! Not saving the assassin girls was a red flag. The typical way to treat brainwashed people in stories are to tie them up and do unspeakable things to them.

  35. Are they serious? For fuck sakes makoto injured a God! Killed a demi God. Hold his ground taking all Roots Ultra nuclear breath. Playfully rekt the bitch who killed the dragons. And they were going to fight makoto? Who has a superioir dragon, calamity spider, elder lich, and a demi japanese god as a servant with 4 or 5 Gods who is his friends?! Are they right in the mind to fight him?!

  36. Makoto’s unconventional luck (BAD) is running really deep to the point that he unfortunately killed a girl who was also under the effect of Trashmokis charm and was a best friend of one of the Picnic Rosegarden as well and now the mercenaries have now considers Kuzunoha as enemies huh……..
I don’t know if I should either laugh or feel bad for the mercenaries but hey how was Makoto suppose to know that the girl he killed was one of the mercenaries friend and not only that but she did try to kill him and he properly responded with retaliation in a brutal way. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  37. To make Makoto your enemy is the same as wishing for death…welp wish granted?
(But still to die over something like “she helped me now I gonna kill myself for her” makes no sense to me…)

  38. holy sheet this guy. It was his fault that the charmed girl got away but still would willingly attack makoto.
I’m starting to wonder if this is root’s husband. Seems like they missed the fact that Mio and Tomoe were his servants and they are basing kuzonohas war potential while they were still acting alone.

If i remember correcty, there was chapter where lorel was turned to a desert right? The one where makoto was dreaming of parallel worlds? Was the reason why lorel was flattened metioned? I wonder if it’s due to these guys?

    1. spoiler-san: root’s husbando is not with rosegarden, he is above ground wandering the world doing stuff.

  39. how did Tomoki manage to “seduce” 3 members of rose garden?
i thought the 3 assassins were the chicks from the time Makoto beat Tomoki’s ass and if so what were they doing there so far from home?

    1. The assassins are not members of rose garden, but one of them is a close friend of a member of rose garden – Pione. She brought her to dungeon master to be cured but she escaped.

    2. I think those 3 were spies from lorel in gritonia that’s why they were with tomoki that day, tomoe said this a few chapters ago that sairitz would be a idiot if she didn’t know about tomoki’s power with all the spies coming back with hearts in their eyes. It’s just that one of them is a friend of this Pione, tomoki probably played with them in gritonia until he got bored and sended them back home to complete some dangerous mission since like makoto told when he killed them there was no life in their eyes anymore so there is no fun for tomoki to play with lifeless dolls, that’s when they were probably picked up by rose garden in lorel.

  40. Wah. Double chapter. Thus Double gratitude to Reigokai-sama!

Still, Adventurers of origin, “Apple”, huh. I’m seriously curious about them now, I mean, they are immortal it seems. Perhaps they were granted some blessing from some Gods too? Would that mean they aren’t normal *hyumans* either? From Rokuya’s reaction it doesn’t seem like he was a transported human though. Perhaps from another world, a different one from our Earth?

Furthermore, I’m getting seriously, and I mean truly *seriously*, hyped for the incoming battle. Because if everyone there is at the same level of Rokuya, then I expect great things, as neither Tomoe nor Mio were able to notice him (please Mio, spare unique abilities… I still feel sorry for that poor Demon general whose name I’ve completely forgotten…)

    > The future of the Kuzunoha Company’s grand labyrinth exploration is still unclear.

Hm.. although I say that, I’m fairly un-worried about their future. I would be more surprised if they were to be in real danger.

  41. So many BRATS here.
All these references, and you can only think about a game that’s barely 15 years old?
    Really?!?
Try go back AT LEAST another 25 years, please.

  42. So, now that I got back home and had the time to ponder a little, I came up with a scenario (making a lot of assumption, so please do point out the faults).

Assuming that Root’s husband was summoned before Apple group came about, and knowing that the husband is dead, as well as taking into account that Root mentioned the existence of a “shadow” of someone (said as if it was someone he seemed fond of), as well as the recent mention that the Apple group existed before the Adventurer’s Guild and was used as a basis for it (Makoto notes that this contradicts what he heard from Root, but that may be his misunderstanding), I came up with the following conclusion:

Root didn’t create the adventurer’s guild during the time his (her, at the time) husband was still alive, though he may have started working on the level and job system necessary for it.

After his husband passed away, Root tried recreating him as best as he could, and while he could create the body, he likely didn’t have the means of inserting or recreating the memories, which is the basis of a person. So what he ended up with is someone who looks like his husband, but became a different person, thus a “shadow” of Root’s husband.

It was not ideal, but Root ended up treating the person as a living monument to his husband.

Root then went ahead and created other individuals to serve as Party Members for his “husband” (who seems to be the guy Rokuya went to talk with in this chapter). They were created as a means of testing the jobs and levels system (therefore they each have an “advanced” job, that’s difficult to attain), and with the “husband” as the Party Leader, they became Apple.

It is possible that for those individuals, Root used existing Hyumans, who had an appropriate profession, which would fit with what we heard in this chapter. In other words, he took someone who was an actual thief, connected them to the level system, and using his admin powers, made them a high level assassin, thus the current Rokuya came to be.

However, there was still something missing compared to what Root heard from his husband. Dungeons.

So Root created one and had Apple dive into it to test the system. Afterwards he let Apple administer the dungeon, which is why Rokuya can switch off ALT floors.

After Root was satisfied that the system was working as it should, he created the Adventurer’s Guild that Makoto is familiar with.

So Apple group were the beta testers, and the system wasn’t wiped after the test was finished, so they got to keep all their cheats.

The leader of Apple then went and created Picnic Rosegarden mercenaries, by recruiting the Wise who entered the dungeon and fulfilled some requirements. Eventually those Wise had children of their own and died, and their descendants remained part of Picnic Rosegarden.

It is also possible that the Dungeon was created together with the Apple group, not after, and is essential to their existence. Maybe the Dungeon was the beta version for the control system for the levels and jobs, and had a much lower range than the current one.

Let’s say, it only covers the area of Lorel Union. Therefore the Apple group, which is not part of the Adventurer’s guild (which is the current and newer system), can only use their powers within Lorel Union.

  43. thanks for the chapter

“A pure breed Elf”, so the forest oni are ‘pure breed Elves’? maybe they were elves from before the godess came?

“Even though he is a hyuman, he possesses power that surpasses that of humans.”
so that guy know about makoto’s lineage

the Valkyries’ presence wasn’t about a plot from tomoki, but only bad luck :/

  44. It will be awesome IF all hell breaks loose! The legendary explorers vs Kuzunoha company. But sadly, NO. It’ll happen only in Makoto’s dream (that god’s gift in peering at alternate world), THAT’S it. What’s going to happen next, my bet, will be boring politics~

    1. na that pione girl will attack. along with those who are willing to join them. also shiva already took those dreams away anyways. i do hope makoto gets to let loose a little. there has been too much politics and since samal he has not pawned anyone.

  45. This his why hyuman are trash they are unreasonable and can’t settle anything peacefully, the only thing they understand is fear and power.

    1. I guess. Makoto is a hyuman after all, even if he’s not complete trash, and there’s something hinky about his sociopathic tendencies anyway.

    2. As opposed to Humans, who are bastions of virtue? 🙂

Hyumans use Humans as a base, so they share the same qualities, only in different proportions.

Something like a character creation screen, where you get the default stats (Humans), and then the player (Bug) went ahead and started moving the attribute points around.

  46. This is a good example of why you don’t kill random people if you have other options. If you can’t rez, you risk making irrecoverable mistakes.

    1. what mistake?
if the worst happens all he needs to do is to force a pact on them after he has slapped them into the next millinum.
if they are lucky they will get a master/servant pact like the rest of his followers if they are unlucky they get to be slave dolls with no will

      1. I know, right?
there is no reasons to care about other people when you have that much power. He fear nothing, they can’t hurt him.
no matter who he kill, how much his action can impact another’s life, how he can hurt people’s feeling but killing their relative, nobody would take revenge and if they dare, they will only be crushed.
People will kneel before his power and if they don’t want to, he can just enslave them by force, or even make them his puppet through magic spells.
they should feel thankful that he permits them to work for him
He can do everything he wants since he have True Power.

        I am happy, I didn’t thought I would find another tomoki’s fan :^)

        1. Makoto should really be viewed as a natural disaster like the Superior Dragons and Calamity Spider.

You don’t get pissed at a tornado that killed your family and try to kill it(well, unless you’re in a disaster b-movie I guess). Makoto is pretty strictly reactionary, so it’s not like you have much to truly be afraid of if you don’t bother him. Not that it’s a justifiable excuse to ignore monitoring him at all as a leader though..

  47. Well I am droping here really late, never though a chapter would be on so soon, as always first and foremost thanks to Regokai-sama for an amazing job. Now a big figth aproach and I am exited to see where its going, I wanna see how they will handle themselves there, I mean Mio and Tomoe are in leaague or above high spirits, for this guy to be so optimistic about the outcome, he definetly isn’t a push over. Well it seems that there is a way to remove Tomoki charm of people, will Makoto party learn about it or they will just dismiss it???

    1. Makoto himself can detect and remove the charm, he did it to Sophia. Some people here said that the girls had too much exposure and they can’t be saved anymore, which might really be the case but the thing is, from Makoto’s perspective, he just didn’t care about them to think things more thoroughly. This can be considered one of his fuck-ups in the story like what happened in the earlier chapters with the adventurers that he let inside asora.

      1. Well, the question is, how much could Makoto revert the effects of Charm? We are, after all, defined by our experiences; our memories.

Even if Makoto removed the Charm debuff completely, the girls could just end up suffering mental breakdown.

But it’s more likely that even if he removed the Charm, it wouldn’t change the way the girls act at all, since they were so deeply affected by that power, that their old personality was completely overwritten. What Makoto would be removing, is only the magic component that keeps overwriting their personality. It wouldn’t revert the changes already made.

Now, it might be possible with the help of Tomoe’s ability with memories to erase their memories all the way back to when they were first exposed to the Charm power.

That would probably be the best case scenario (sort of), and it would still leave them traumatized. They would have to live their lives, knowing that there is this chunk of their lives (months, at least), that are lost to them. A time where they were walking around. Doing things. And yet it was not them.

But what if the Charm power actually also starts modifying existing memories? Then you couldn’t even erase the “damaged” parts, because that would be all of the memories.

I don’t know. Perhaps Makoto already considers those too deeply affected by Charm as effectively dead? So to him it may be no different than killing zombies. Empty vessels that continue to move long after the original owner has passed.

      2. @Kortodo that is indeed most likely the case about the girls. Like I said this, is one of his fuck-ups, the consequence of his actions with the effects of his bad luck.

      3. Well it can indeed be takes as one of his fucks ups, but really there is a limit to how mutch one can foresigh, I really though that the charms the longuer the exposure the harder and harder will be to reverse. I don’t rememmber well but Makoto can already reverse the curse of Mondo, or only prevent it for acting???

  48. It’s interesting to me how so many of these comments conceptually handle blame. They’ll say this person’s to blame or that person’s to blame like it absolves someone else’s fuck-up. Nah, that’s not how it works. Everyone owns their own fuck-ups.

    1. so, if we resume what we can blame:
makoto: view life too cheaply, and too easy to kill (if they hold a sword, it’s okay to kill them)
      Tomoki: brainwashing (among many things)
Pione (and mercenaries): taking revenge against makoto who’s the victim
futsu(?): for letting go of the brainwashed girl
Rokuya: taking side to see something interesting and expect everything to resolve by itself rather than trying to calm Pione and mediate over a more pacific meeting

      did I miss something?

      1. That’s a pretty good list for the current events crew. Lily’s pretty much responsible for inciting and enabling Tomoki. Sairitz is more or less to blame for the general situation. Root. . . I just know root’s done something to make everything worse.

  49. Normally I’d like to say R.I.P (Rest In Pieces) for the guy who’s name I don’t know yet, but from what Rokuya said that might not be a problem. Thanks for the chapter.

  50. Damn now I feel kinda bad that Raidou killed the mind-controlled assassins 😛 Oh well let’s see how this gets resolved 🙂
And tyvm for the chapter !

    1. Anyway do refresh me
The accident they talking about is the assassin they met evenly right?
Wasn’t they just 2 and raidou crush them all? I cant remember there’s 3rd assassin (pione friend)

      1. There were 3 of them, the same 3 girls that Tomoki offered in exchange for Tomoe. I checked chapters about Tomoki and one of his main party members is from lorel, her name is Yukinatsu, this girl should be Pione’s friend.

      2. Weren’t those three all shadowless classes? Yukinatsu is a researcher and a Force player, a type of alchemist. I doubt Lily would change her class into an assassin type for no reason when there are a ton more others to choose from, like those with a clean slate or those already inheriting a class that could go to shadowless. I think the girl never got a name.
There are actually two party members from Lorel, one of which is the dragon summoner Mora.

      3. I’m not surprised that their classes and personalities change once their minds get taken over, I mean, the person left behind can hardly be said to be the original person anymore.

And was there any indication that the brainwashing can be reversed? Or was it assumed just because Makoto is ‘OPed’? I don’t recall any mention that it could be reversed, in fact, the alt universe Makoto killed off every one of Tomaki’s minions and mentioned that by then they were no longer anything more than puppets.

    2. I don’t get why he just didn’t remove the mind control he can do it after all and freeing them would likely piss off tomiki or how ever his name is spelled lol

      1. Makoto manage to remove the charm from Sofia because she was crazy strong and was able to some degree to resist it, she was exposed to the charm only once and that had happened recently, basically the same difference between a new drug user and a lifelong addicted, no matter what the later won’t be the same without taking into account permanent brain damage, he said that it was already too late, and in case you are wondering Mio saved Toa because that was a normal drug and Trashmoki´s charm is a power given by the goddess.

      2. He could have dispelled the charm, but right now for him that’s bothersome.

When he noticed the malice inside Tamaki, he himself acknowledged that he just wanna kill and kill some more. Right now his mind is going bananas and people still have to notice it.

    3. Well mind-control is horrible after all. Damn it Tomoki, even without directly appearing you’re still causing trouble

      1. Based on Athena’s and the others’ comments, I feel that in terms of raw power, Makoto has long since surpassed Bug. The difference would be in experience and their repertoire of tricks.

So it’s probably something like “It doesn’t matter how strong you are, if you can’t hit anything.”

      2. @Kortodo Welp I don’t think there is a problem hitting anything is much of an issue since Makoto can cast the spell nuke arrow. Yup Makoto is just a giant walking NOFUKU to everyone in terms of war potential.

      3. Considering the growth of Makoto’s power is literally exponential (doubles everytime he finishes his archery routine), combined with the fact that he has been contantly training, it’s a safe bet that Makoto is way past bug right now.
As for Rokuya & co. I suspect they aren’t that far beyond a Supreme Dragon, and even then only as a group. Consider the fact that Ginebia was stretching herself to traverse a distance the Kuzunoha Company traversed lightly, the only reason they aren’t dead is because at least Makoto is rational

    1. @archeisse

Well his raw magic reserve doubles, but that’s just a force multiplier. He needs to develop his skills. You aren’t going to beat a god with an elemental brid no mater how much mana you have, and his followers are still leagues beyond him in magic comprehension. Mio emulated a complex reflect spell, Tomo was shown to understand space-time magic that baffled Makoto and Shiki is Shiki. Hell, even Ema probably has better spellwork than Makoto.

      1. That maybe be true but Raidou defies common sense like when he pulled that summoned guy out of the dimensional gate so can create a method to win just on instinct.

  51. Thanks for the chapter.

It sounds like Rose Garden as a group is at odds with another group/individual in the dungeon labyrinth. So, it’d be nice if Raidou could have them either join His lands (either Asora or Kaleneon) or join what will end up being the new Tsige country.

  52. Thanks for the chapter. When they keep referring the guild “Apple” in kind of reminds of the small guild “Golden Apple” from Sword Art Online. I read the story and said in it that they had the potential to become 1 of the Front line Guilds. But because of the murder of the leader the group disbanded. I wonder if there was some sort fall out story like some of the members in the “Apple”?

  53. I finally understand why I just love tsuki ga: the world fill alive. It’s not just the MCs and his surroundings, you feel the whole world moving. You feel the history of the world, the relations between people. It’s something that I find missing in a lot of story, especially in novels.

  54. Lol 3 Vs Group Kuzonoha Company Makoto, Mio and Tomoe Vs People of the Apple group hahahhaha they were lucky Shiki the Lich King is not present but still they can’t win also they better dont make Makoto Mad once he gets mad well sorry for them.

    1. Also what so wrong about retaliation against enemies who tries to kill you I also have principle like if you hit me 1st with intent to kill or not i will hit you more than u ever imagine. Also they where freaking Mind Control Assassin and they are late to act to cure her 1 of her friend its not Makoto Fault its Trashmoki!!!.

      1. Makoto knew they were being mind controlled and knows how to dispel it but instead decided to kill them. It’s his damn fault.

  55. More of this “meh, I can take ’em” business, some people never learn. I seriously doubt, however powerful they are, the Apple folk are anywhere close to God-Killing. Supreme Dragon? Maybe, as a group, but Makoto is long past that.
So your friend got killed attacking Makoto under brainwashing? Her fault for getting brainwashed in the first place. Not that trashmoki isn’t at fault (every problem in this world can be traced back to trashmoki, fact), but willingly associating with him is just asking for trouble.
At least now it’s pretty clear that Bia and Haku are unrelated to trash, and it’s pretty sure that Apple at least can protect themselves (considering Rosegarden can erase the brainwashing with some effort); one less trash-related problem to worry about. I look forward to the point when trash finally dies, preferably as painfully and as prolonged as possible.

      1. i doubt anyone voluntarily gets brainwashed. Not to mention that trash princess is pushing these girls towards him to satisfy his “need”. Not that I’m against a good, well written, run harem. It’s the brainwashing behind it.

If anyone deserves the true scorn is the princess and Tomaki… direct the hare at them.

      2. It is not her fault, but the empire’s princess order. For the to be brainwashed by a trash. So she should point that anger to the trash and trash maker(empire princess)

      3. Call it what it is : victim blaming, which is something they engaged in first (you killed my friend in self-defense! YOU MONSTER! WAAAAAAAHH).

Because seriously, even if we trace the causality here :
        – Three Stooges got exposed to Moki’s charm without proper countermeasures, Moki’s fault for charming them, PRG’s fault for sending them without proper countermeasures. (this seriously should be two separate points, exposing themselves to the charm and not preparing proper countermeasures, but I’m feeling nice)
        – Three Stooges cared for by PRG, inadequately allowing them to escape for further faults, PRG’s fault again
        – Three Stooges tried to kill Makoto, got killed instead. Three Stooges’ fault, by extension PRG’s fault. Then let’s agree that killing is bad, so Makoto’s fault.

Proceed to the “It’s your fault!” tally :
        – Makoto : 1
        – Moki : 2 (base 1, +1 for being Trashmoki)
        – PRG : 3
Being more at fault than Trashmoki? For goddamn shame.

    1. It’s not their fault for getting charmed since none of them knows about it. The charmed women are the pitiful victims here. Tbh instead of Makoto killing Tomoki, I kinda want all the charmed women to be cured and then they all feel hatred against him and be the ones to deal with him however cruel and sadistic way they want.

      1. U sure they would be cured? He already done that to the dragon slayer sofia but she denied the possibilities of being mind control and still revered trashmoki.
So i think that once trap in that guy’s mind control, it’s the end.

      2. Them being cured is just my wish, who knows, they might find a way. As for Sofia, Makoto told her that she was charmed then she got angry and denied it. Then Makoto dispelled the charm and Sofia stopped talking about Tomoki.

“Even when I dispelled the charm, it just made her not talk about the Empire hero anymore, but her personality didn’t change that much.” – from chapter 163

      3. as far as I can see how his eyes work is that it makes the target believe he is the definition of perfection (or something like that), everything he says is correct and makes them keep thinking about him all day. If the charm gets canceled, they will stop thinking as far as the charm goes, but what would happen if the person keeps thinking about a single person for years? That’s right, they’ll continue thinking about him. Kind of like brainwashing, keep repeating a statement over and over to people and they’ll start thinking it’s true. Or something like that. The only remedy for them is to remove the charm and to keep them away from Tomoki for a long long time and replace everything about tomoki in their brains with something else. Unless they have some sort of magic to remove memories, which is kind of a risk as well….

    2. “So your friend got killed attacking Makoto under brainwashing? Her fault for getting brainwashed in the first place.”

So if someone blows your head, it is your fault for not having a bulletproof skull? How much more stupid logic can get?

      1. that makes sense, but is it reasonable to be angry at only makoto. why would she not direct some of that anger to the one that hired them and to herself because she accepted it.

      2. @fuji we don’t really know if she’s only angry at Makoto, if she is, then she’s a stupid bitch. Maybe Makoto is just one of her targets of revenge and since he’s nearby and actually going to meet them then he is the first one she’ll attack.

    1. He knew they were being controlled and had the means to stop them without killing them, but still decided to kill them because yes. I’d say he was in the fucking wrong. Obviously.

  56. so will makoto meet rokuya again?
if one attack with the intention of killing a target, one would have to be ready to be killed by the target. that’s just Makoto.
What choice is there? It’s the same with a hunter trying to hunt a tiger/lion. If it failed, be ready to be killed by the tiger/lion.
And i would say that’s “Pione” mistake for not even being able to keep her friends from running away. That “pione” know that her friends being brainwashed by Tomoki. She should have watch and guard her friend closely.
I just hope that Pione wasn’t also being brainwashed by tomoki since the chances is very likely like her friend.
    A plot from tomoki.
He could brainwash pione and her friend and then let them go back to the dungeon. Make it look like Pione brought her friend to release the brainwash. Then let her friend run away only to be killed by makoto.
Thus Pione would have reason to make the dungeon people to take side with her to fight with Makoto.
if not why so accidentally with the incoming plan of the makoto to the dungeon?

  57. If it goes by the logic that Pione got angry because makoto killed her friend.
Then the adventurer would long get angry because their friends / team died on the dungeon explorer.
They got to blame the dungeon people for they are the architecture of the dungeon.
But no, they worshiped the dungeon people instead like they are some kinda God.
    Doesn’t make sense.

  58. Finally caught up… Binge reading 261 chapters is surprisingly difficult…
    ε-(´・`) フ

Great quality as always, and thanks for the translations! ٩( ゚ヮ゚)۶

    1. lmao. how much did it take you? I remember binge reading until chap 170 for about 1-2 weeks and it was absolutely worth it.

      1. It took about that long. I read kinda quickly tho. Been reading some chrome-translated web novels lately, so nicely-translated stories like this are a breeze in comparison.

I wanted to know how Dragon Egg was doing. The hard part is that some chapters are long enough that google has an aneurysm and repeats a block of text over and over. Sometimes missing half of the text.

  59. Makoto is not to blame you don’t try to kill someone if you aren’t yourself ready to be killed. They only care about the girl death because they knew her otherwise they wouldn’t care, they are hypocritical and selfish. The others could have been the ones who killed her and they wouldn’t have had the choice but they would be blamed. I said hyuman were trash because they always treat makoto like shit, the only one who didn’t do so was either because they owed him, or fear his power, outside of thisese situationsa don’t treat him with any respect.

    1. It is indeed wrong for her to account Makoto responsable for defending himself, but when it comes to feelings, humans tend to be completely irrational about it, thats why sometimes when there is problems in the relationsship is more wise to receive an advise from someone outside of it that go with your emotions alone.

    1. the most i can think of is that they are like shiki. they have given up to be human and become immortal. the other one is they have something like cloning in the 20th floor, and their original body is already gone and there is something like a database that store their on it. well this is just my imagination going wild.

    2. spoilersan: they’re immortal. it has something to do with the creation of the adventurer’s guild and the bug has a hand in it?

      1. Root made the adventurer’s Guild, not the bug. The only thing the bug did was to authorize some things to Root, to give him the authority on certain aspects of the world for the creation of the guild system.

      2. as for the bug having something to do with the Apple group, that is a possibility. Not only does the group seems to predate the Adventurer’s Guild, but the members are seemingly immortal. They might be the people that Root(I think) mentioned to be the real strongest people on the Goddess side in this world.

  60. those job system, looks like Ragnarok online references, tho they were calles acolyte instead of ascetic practitioner in that game, everything else was pretty much the same as it mentioned above.

  61. Whew, just finished binge reading this series from the start 3 days ago. Finally caught up and hungry for more!

This arc seems to be mostly focused on the job system and the stats and skills the adventurer guild provides and its history. I wonder how Rokuya’s base stats are (level? skills? titles?) and if in a straightforward fight if he is stronger than Mio or Tomoe or if he only absurd in the infiltration/assassin department.

  62. Lol friggin ragnarok online for real

    Acolyte > priest
    > monk(yes monk cant use sword

    Swordman> knight
    >crusader(they do force us to collect tons of shit for real.)

    Archer> supposedly hunter
    > dancer(or bard if male) is an alternative job a few years later, and no, they dont use bow anymore, they use whip

  63. It’s unfortunate but it seems the mercs have chosen the death card by choice of vengeance.
*Puts hands together in prayer-* Wait

“But I can somewhat tell, you know. That things will settle somewhat harmoniously.” (Rokuya)
Please give Makoto to right a wrong by stripping Trashmoki of his glamour by means of spirit arrow striking the blessing attached to his soul, he’s already learned how to perceive and hit “weak points” and abilities with Sophia and the Door.

    1. if Makoto does that, it would be awesome. Let’s think about it. Death wouldn’t be enough for Trashmoki. So instead, destroy the blessing of the goddess within him, thus his eye, immortality and all weapons compatibility powers being erased as well. Let’s see him stripped of his powers, and then faced with his own powerlessness. Let’s take away the charm of his followers, let’s have them torture him while Makoto and co maintain him alive. This sounds awesome.

  64. Am I the only cofused about the “pure breed elf” thing? Did he mean Shii? Or was he talking about Shiki, since he mentions it when talking about mio and tomoe also?

    1. it might be that the forest ogres/elves were the original elves and the other elves are ones who have been affected and changed by the goddess.

    2. yeah, he is talking about shii
forest onis were initially elves, but they secluded themselves and started to drift away from the the normal elves, like they forsaken the ability to talk to plant. and got considered as another race
Still surprising that they are considered “pure breed elf”

      1. technically speaking, if they refused association with the goddess and her spirits, and instead worshiped dragons, then they are the last true Pure Breed Elves, since they haven’t been changed by the influence of the bug.
Heck, maybe the talking to plants thing is due the relation between the other elves and spirits(which were created by the bug).

  65. This is shaping up to be a knock down, drag out fight.I feel really bad for RoseGarden, they listed off Kuzunoha people and equipment and still want to fight them? That’s just crazy! Who’s the pure bred elf? If he shoots an arrow charged up and decides to blow up the dungeon, it’s a wrap for that group and Immortality be damned. He doesn’t show his best image unless him or one of his followers get hurt or injured. Plus, with a little thought can’t they still access Asora and the people from there? That desert situation could be coming up.

  66. Re-reading an older chapter, it looks like the name of one of Tomoki’s party is also named Ginebia. A coincidence? Let’s hope so…maybe…

  67. ………………. Once again the story is leaning heavily towards themes I don’t like. This may even go beyond my dislike of tomoki, except worse, it sounds connected to him even if only as a spark.

  68. Makoto sure has bad luck. But, well…
Makoto has the right to kill his assailant, but he has the choice and the power to just subdue them. He’s not blameless.
Pione also has the right to hate Makoto. But to put all the blame on Makoto while the one who charm them is shitty hero and the one to let them escape are the Apple people, doesn’t sit right to me either.

  69. Weird, so does everyone know that Root is the creator of the adventure’s guild?

Beacuse everyone just seemed to brush this fact like it’s a fly in the air…

Kind of confusing, at the same time infuriating…

  70. “With only the imitation of Reft’s reflect ability, Shiki and Tamaki are already in tears.”

And Tomoe isn’t? Tamaki is supposed to be the strongest of the 4 after all.

  71. So if this guy so confidently states that he won’t lose to Makoto in a fight, insinuating he’s super strong, how is it possible that the 3 that were easily dispatched by Makoto escaped him?
