Chapter 237: A place that’s nowhere

Sponsored Chapter

It has been a while since the shrines (and Tamaki) have appeared in Asora.

I have done shrine visits once a day.

The change in atmosphere after passing through the shrine archway, the refreshing grounds; that silence that is detached from the sounds of life…is something special even in this world and Asora.

Also, the scent of the trees and the incense make me remember Japan and it makes me nostalgic, which is one of the reasons of my daily visits as well.

But it is not like I stay that long there, so I don’t know about the state of it at the other hours.

For the people that live in Asora, just how has the existence of a shrine taken form in them? I have been slightly interested in it.

That’s why I have been looking forward to seeing if Tamaki’s report has something regarding that.

“First of all, about the administration of the shrine: thanks to the direct request of Makoto-sama, all of the races have been helping out frequently. Most people would show there at least once, and now, even children come to play.” (Tamaki)

“Heh~.” (Makoto)

“The cherry blossom viewing event probably worked as a saving for the image of the shrine in Asora. That’s most likely the reason why they can go there with ease.” (Tamaki)

“As expected, it didn’t become a place where people gather because of faith huh. Sorry, Tamaki.” (Makoto)

It is a place where it has a Shinto shrine, a Buddhist temple, and a Parthenon temple, moreover, there’s a shrine maiden as well. And yet, it is being treated as a big public park, which makes me feel bad.

Tsukuyomi-sama, Daikokuten-sama, Susanoo-sama, Athena-sama; these place was created because of our connection with them after all.

But it is not like they are the Gods of Asora, and aside from me, there’s no one that has any familiarity with those names.

Well, it can’t be helped that it isn’t treated as a place to give prayers religiously.

If that’s the case, the divine vessel might starve for worship, so well, at that point, it should endure with my visits.

Does it even have a will? I don’t know if it gets hungry either though.

The divine vessel literally looks like a simple ball after all.

“Please don’t mind that. This is a place where races that didn’t even pray to the Goddess are gathered. Just because a place connected to Gods -they don’t even know about- appears, it would be strange if they immediately take it as a religious place.” (Tamaki)

“If it’s been taken as a resting place at the very least, does that mean it is doing well?” (Makoto)

“Yes. Also…Makoto-sama visits it everyday. Thanks to that, there have been a number of people that come to offer their prayers. The residents here are mostly people that naturally accept things and share their thoughts. Their compatibility with shrines is definitely not bad.” (Tamaki)

“I see. It is good that there have been people going to give their prayers.” (Makoto)

“Yeah. Temples and shrines don’t discriminate races, and the temple one has been expanded, so it is mostly being visited by the sea people. But…” (Tamaki)

“…Is there a problem?” (Makoto)

Honestly, I don’t want to hear about any problems regarding the shrine.

It would be one thing if they were not interested or they are treating it as air, but I wouldn’t be happy to hear that they are against it. This is just my personal opinion though.

“There’s no problem but…the target of their prayers is…uhm…” (Tamaki)

“Yeah, ‘the target is’…?” (Makoto)

“Makoto-sama.” (Tamaki)

“…Hah?” (Makoto)

Why did it turn out that way?

The ones that are enshrined there are different Gods (well, to be precise, Tamaki says that there’s only a mysterious divine vessel and there’s nothing like the divine protection of the Gods or their will in them though), and in the first place, I am not a God.

And I am no overlord either.

This is so unexpected that it just doesn’t make sense.

“…Kukukuku.” (Tomoe)

“Ara, that’s wonderful.” (Mio)

“I see. That’s how it turned out.” (Shiki)

Tomoe, Mio, and Shiki, muttered this with joy.

But it doesn’t seem like they find it strange.

Why?

In the first place, even if I am not always in Asora, I do come here often and they can totally talk to me and touch me as well. I’m totally a feudal lord.

“It probably means that for Asora, Makoto-sama is a living God, or something proportionate to that. It has been a while since this Tamaki here has seen a person that is a ruler, and yet, treated as a God. Moreover, the ruler himself doesn’t see himself in that way, but the people still treat him as a God.” (Tamaki)

“…”

“I have explained the manners and attitude they should take, but…in terms of the divine vessel I spoke about, just by giving their prayers is enough. Currently, it is a trifle matter, but if I had to say one concern of mine, this would be it.” (Tamaki)

“This is not trifle, it is incredibly concerning!” (Makoto)

“Ara~” (Tamaki)

“Can you please explain it well to them? Like seriously, please.” (Makoto)

“If it’s the order of Makoto-sama, I of course will handle it carefully.” (Tamaki)

“I am sure you will be able to explain it properly, so I am counting on you.” (Makoto)

This is no joke.

I am not such a splendid person to be prayed by at shrines.

Those kind of things are probably more fit for people that leave their mark in history.

…Ah, but well, in modern times, there have been people who have done great achievements like flood control which have been revered.

If I remember correctly, they were treated as living deities.

Both cases are way too disconnected from me.

It feels as if something incredibly heavy has fallen on my shoulders.

Sorry, please spare me.

“To persuade them will certainly be relatively hard though.” (Tamaki)

“Of course, I don’t think it will be solved only with words. Don’t worry.” (Makoto)

“That’s a relief. And so, regarding matters aside from the shrine.” (Tamaki)

“Yeah, how is it?” (Makoto)

“Sari and Ema are capable people, so the land and sea are working together perfectly. Even though the numbers have increased quite a lot, the disatisfaction of the residents in Asora is scarily low to the point of being surprising.” (Tamaki)

“That’s true. Those two are a great help.” (Makoto)

“The people that have been involved with this place from the beginning: Tomoe-san, Mio-san, and Shiki-san, are truly managing it skillfully. I am purely impressed.” (Tamaki)

“Hm? Skillfully?” (Makoto)

“…”

I was slightly bothered by how Tamaki said it.

I glanced at the three, but they don’t seem to be saying anything about it.

“They understand well that all the races believe in power supremacy, and as an outlet, they provide the Asora ranking as a place to fight and have amusement. And with that, it dispels the discontent at early stages and also creates a natural hierarchy with Makoto-sama as the summit. There’s also a lot of government techniques done here as well. It is splendid.” (Tamaki)

Skillful…government.

Why is it that my emotions are stirring slightly?

“That’s just by chance. It was surprising for me that it turned into a good place for amusement.” (Tomoe)

“It is a good place to kill time, right?” (Mio)

“This domain called Asora has Waka-sama at its centre, so there’s not really any problem in him standing at its summit.” (Shiki)

And for some reason, those three seem to be dodging those words…

Leaving aside Mio.

“That’s why there’s not much I can propose to do. Currently, there would be only one thing.” (Tamaki)

Tamaki didn’t delve deeper into it either, and continues with a different topic.

“Regarding the treatment of the animals, I think they should be dealt with urgently.” (Tamaki)

“Animals? Are you talking about the chickens and cows?” (Makoto)

There’s certainly animals that have been raised as livestock in Asora.

There was a period of time when we had trouble with it, but most of it should have been resolved already.

I didn’t only hear the reports, I have also gone there myself a few times, and that’s how I felt.

“No, I am talking about the animals in the wild. The ones like: wolves, bears, and the Roc bird.” (Tamaki)

“What do you mean by dealing with them? There hasn’t been any friction.” (Makoto)

“Makoto-sama, Asora will surely develop even more in the future. Because here, there’s only powers that are affiliated with Makoto-sama. With how things go, the places where one can live will run out before long. No matter how big the place is, this will definitely happen one day. That’s why we shouldn’t let those animals do whatever they want with such a vast place. Instead, we should eradicate them in the early stages, or take them under your direct control as part of the residents. That way, I think the problems in the future will be lessened.” (Tamaki)

“…”

“If it is left as it is, when the time comes, they will bring out the name of Makoto-sama and will use a vague promise as their backing, which will create disputes in the future with the residents. Makoto-sama is the personage that serves as the heart of this nation. At the very least, I think that the present vague promises like giving them a forest and desert should be rechecked into something more proper.” (Tamaki)

“I don’t think they would create problems like that though.” (Makoto)

“Makoto-sama, pardon me, but problems concerned with the environment and living beings in it, are definitely not matters that turn into good things by their own. In the case of problems with original residents and new ones, it is easiest to just quickly eradicate them and then look back at history and apologize for it. Makoto-sama doesn’t like complicated problems, and it is also one of the most simplest and clear methods of resolving the matter.” (Tamaki)

Ugh.

But I don’t think this is right.

In the first place, I can’t imagine Asora getting so overflowed with people. And to commit genocide because of this foreseeable future, that’s just…no, there’s a part of it that has a point.

It is true that problems should be dealt with before they sprout, but…even so…

I feel like I am being inquired about my stance here.

In that case, I won’t be developing the mountains and sea completely.

“…Then…” (Makoto)

“…”

“I will clearly establish somewhere that there should be no fights over territory. I will also arrange things on their side as well. It is true that I don’t know about the future, but if I leave word that I don’t wish for that to happen, there’s a high chance that both sides will respect that. Is that okay?” (Makoto)

Also, this is not a nation of humans or hyumans.

There’s a lot of races with long longevity, and are different in nature.

“…Of course, I don’t mind. This is just my personal opinion but, I think that in the future, it will be necessary for Makoto-sama to show your will clearly. I think it will be good practice to try that even if it’s in small matters in Asora.” (Tamaki)

“Thanks.” (Makoto)

“My honest impression is that Asora is an incredibly ideal land. Yeah…just like an Utopia.” (Tamaki)

“You are exaggerating, Tamaki.” (Makoto)

Tamaki giggles and bows once.

She is done huh.

Ideal land…Utopia huh.

Tamaki should know about the words denoting those kind of places, like: Elysium, Agartha, Eden, Heaven, Shangri-la, Mount Penglai. And yet, why did she choose to call it Utopia?

When she is the one saying it, I feel like there’s some sort of meaning behind it.

In the first place, I myself…don’t like the word Utopia that much.

Because of the name’s origin, and the circumstances of it. <Utopia falls.>

Well, for a Japanese person, the word heaven is probably the better wording for it. To denote an ideal place, that is.

If Asora is thought of as a place similar to heaven, that would make me happy.

Yeah, let’s change gears.

“Asora is calm then huh.” (Makoto)

It is as if heaven is telling me to go to Lorel.

Heaven, not the Goddess.

Okay, my hesitation has disappeared.

I have also resolved myself.

Let’s head to that dark, confined, and unpleasant -no, extremely unpleasant dungeon.

Right.

…After this, when I go to the shrine and I see people there, I will properly tell them that it isn’t a place to pray at me. On top of that, I will ask them to visit frequently.

      1. You need to make him take off his op fire resistance equip first, then remove cocythus from his side, on top of that kill victim before you did all that. Granted that if you can slip before demiurge watch and albedo defenses.

      1. They are not really short when you compare to other novels, more like this novel has some huge ass chapters once in a while.

      2. Actually comparing to other web/light novels these are shorter. But according to translater these are shorter version it seems.

  2. Thanks for the chapter, Reigo-senpai.

I have no spoilers. It’s back to my live stream. If anyone wants to see me play Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, my Twitch name is the same as on here. It ends at Midnight EST.

      1. There is no perfect place, no matter what UNLESS it is reign by God.

Creating a perfect place where no killing and evil doing for a long time is totally impossible. Even the great Rome Empire or Ottoman Empire fell down to ruin.

        Get the catch?

      1. W…What makes you guys think that I’m pretending to be Agent? Silly.

    1. Because the concept of utopia is an ideal world, not a real one, its something unreachable or very short-lived, and usually all of the aparent utopias from literature are well disguised big-brother-like worlds

    2. The word came from greek which means not place or non existing place. It is also used by dictators/revolutionist/and other unsavory group and they usually fail and just replace who is the oppressor and who is the oppressed and some they even worst than those they dethrone. If a word or a symbol is regularly used by sinister groups then sooner or later that word or symbol will be attributed to them. The swastika for example.

    3. It’s true utopia is just an individual ideal which each person is different.

The word utopia is a contradiction on its own because it can never be achieve.

      1. She’s basically thinking along the lines similar to the goddess. Except her reason is base on over population and fear of uncontrolled animals.

A lot of people don’t really know that makoto can actually speak with anything that have intelligence. Also the fact he is literally their, asora creatures, creator. She either don’t know or is favoring humonaid type.

But you can see more of her character type if it’ll get in the way in the future make them go extinct.

  3. Thanks for the translation. I just started reading the novel last week and i have finally caught up with the latest release. Uhm, is the link for the pov chapters not working or is the site gone? I tried them but the site can’t be reached.

      1. Thanks for the reply 🙇. I have read the extra chapters except the pov ones since the lightnovel site isn’t working anymore. Thank you again for the new link 🙇

  4. Makoto is useless to resist, after giving a tremendous spectacle with the Samal massacre and winning a sanctuary. You are a growing god. Tamaki always talks between the lines, UTOPIA because there is no paradise or heaven. To annihilate the problematic races does not give a good sign. When Tamaki leaves and sees the goddess world, she may qualify or evaluate and inform the other gods. More and more I think that Tamaki is like a supervisor left by the gods and is even being used as a camera live.

    1. Do you think that what Tamaki has said was a test from the other gods? “Wipe out the native creatures early for the new creatures from an outside world” is more or less what the Bug did for the Hyumens. Are they testing Makoto to see if he will take a route similar to the Bug?

    2. If in this world there are different gods then there are different heavens deoending on who you followed. So she may just be looking to see if asora can be makotos heaven for when ge becomes a god and the other gods put him in charge of the bugs world. That way he has a heaven like place for those who follow him maybe. Ir she probabky wants to turn him into a gog of destruction

  5. So, everyone. I suddenly feel highly compelled to quote a statement from Makoto, then mockingly laugh at it in an over-the-top sarcastic manner. I invite you to join me in a comment chain.

“This is so unexpected that it just doesn’t make sense.”
    PFFFFT! HAHAHAHAHA!

  6. Thx as always 😀

Makoto being treated as a god by the residents of Asora 😁
They’re not completely wrong actually as long as Asora is concerned.

  7. I’m in the top fifty on both chapters. This is a great day. Thanks for both chapters, but where’s the action? Tamaki has an agenda, just haven’t seen it yet.

  8. YES! We knew it was coming! The followers knew it was coming! Probably most of Asora knew it was coming! Makoto is finally being worshiped as the patron deity of Asora.

    …..Perfect.

  9. mi séptimo sentido me dice que la diosa va a aparecer muy pronto D:

My seventh sense tells me that the goddess will appear very soon D:

  10. Ha. It’s cute that Makoto thinks his visits(read: proportional contributions of magical power) is something the vessel has to “get by” with.

He seems to really be growing up though. He’s even having to contemplate how to avoid (committing) genocide. Nice to see he’s not in his ruthless mode when it comes to matters like these.

Makoto’s values are weird and kinda hard to nail, but it seems like life isn’t worth much, but morality is still a strong thing.

    1. I think that he feels that while a life is not that important, what you do with it and how you do it is important. That is my guess anyway. It’s like money, money is worthless by itself, but is valued on what you do with it.

  11. I am not such a splendid person to be prayed by at shrines.

Those kind of things are probably more fit for people that leave their mark in history.

    — “leave a mark”, Makoto already beyond leave a mark in history, if I should use words to describe it : you already making love to history, she begged tou to stop but you refuses to listen and keep ravages her body everywhere, beyond hills, forest, town and dimension.

First he challenged one of major mythical beast
Second he start to recruit more beast
    Later he saved many demi-human
Much more later he beat up Hero and Villain that dare to piss him
Next thing he become a savior to demon race
And mind him that the list is skipping part and keep going…

That’s already much more done than most of WN MC did. And as tradition will goes he only need to ascend to godhood to finish his saga. Accept you fate.

    Thanks for the chapter.

  12. Thanks 4 the chapter!

It won’t be soon, but eventually (maybe centuries later) the people would expand into the territories of the animals, unless Makoto make it clear where each side can expand.

  13. Makoto is now being worshipped as a god

he owns a world that except for gods he and a servant of him can only grant permission to enter and expands only when he grows
he owns power second only to gods
    he rejects another god’s policies
he can create things from nothing

who among the readers didn’t see it coming?

    1. Probably it is only way to prevent future conflict between residents. Usually utopia falls the moment the founding members dies. Alexander the Great empire crumble the moment he dies.

      1. hmm.. that’s reasonable… if Makoto leaves his own views teachings to follow, Asora would have a more solid foundation. It’s like a whole nation being bound together by one religion, huh..

        nice

    2. She could be trying to piggy back off of him; hoping that when he ascends, so will his followers, i.e. herself.

      1. Before, she kept saying that she was an object or tool. As such, she does not think “how can I benefit both me and my master,” she thinks, “what is the best possible outcome for my master” and then tries to manipulate them into that outcome. In this case, I believe the best possible outcome for Makoto is turning into a God with all his followers/family. So, the ending result isn’t different from what you proposed, but the motive is.

  14. The people of Asora aren’t completely wrong, looking at Makoto’s connection to the land, he is essentially god here. Not only his benevolence, the very land grows and thrives due to Makoto’s own growth.

And I’m surprised no one is talking about Tamaki here. This chapter shows the evil in her that Makoto keeps feeling. Her analysis of the coliseum as a location of hierarchy. Her praise of the followers ability to “manage” the people. Her desire to kill the animals and apologize later (Amuurrriccaa)

Cough… Cough .. The animals here do not antagonize Makoto and instinctively recognize him as their king and God. Which given their origins and Makoto’s connection to the land and everything in it, isn’t that strange. All life not from the hyuman world came into being suddenly from the land and Makoto’s Sekai and Tomoe’s Asora are the source. The wolves bears roc bird are literally Makoto’s children.

    1. I think why a lot of people are not taking about it is because we don’t know what to really make of it. This is the first blatant expression of Tamaki’s evil, something that has been alluded to since her arrival, but all of it so far is some bad feelings Makoto has to some of her words and animal culling.

Granted the culling is bad, very bad, like “Hitler for Animals” bad, but we still don’t know what her endgame is. The only feeling I am starting to get myself is that she doesn’t see Asora as a real place with real living residents. She sees the residents of Asora, the animals and civilians, as statistics: pros or cons for an unseen scenario and goal, and things that can easily be changed or discarded at convenience. While that is bad, Shiki sees most people as lab rats, Mio sees them as food, Tomoe sees them as insignificant mortals, and even Makoto harbors prejudice towards most Hyumens and has shown signs of psychopathic behavior; so I can’t say that Tamaki really stands out very much.

I do wonder why Tomoe and Shiki has been so silent though, Mio has been probably thinking about deep fried Roc Bird for a while now so she may be on board with Tamaki’s proposal. I hope the next few chapters will cover what they currently think about Tamaki so that we can get a better feel of her.

      1. Well… Tamaki is demi-god right ?
I think she will view the world not from human pov but from god pov.
The residents of asora is just a little bit important than a number in her view, the only thing she concerned is how to fill the vessel with energy and proceeds through her plan. I even doubt she really looks at Tomoe, Mio and Shiki as person, and don’t misunderstood I never said she is evil, it’s just her view to the world are much more different from Makoto Co.
it’s a complex feeling and I doubt she ever want any interaction with outside world, I can almost be certain that everything has been going just as planned for Tamaki this far.

And just as I speculated before, I think she just want to ascend to godhood faster and bring Makoto along, you know the “heaven” are in turmoil with Tsukuyomi absence, I think all of this are part of the bigger plan to fill the hole that Tsukuyomi leave,

    2. Tamaki’s concern is very real. There are two groups of inhabitants in Asora. Natives and immigrants. I think she’s concerned that when Makoto is gone, the animals will use their origins (as beings that have been there since t=0, and can be said as creations of Makoto) as reason to rule over and oppress the immigrants. So unless Makoto leaves a clear decree and enforcement of asora wide cooperation, chaos will ensue in the far future. I think the Evil Makoto feels from Tamaki is her personality being a vicious realist.

  15. “Tamaki should know about the words denoting those kind of places, like: Elysion, Agarta, Eden, Heaven, Shangri-la, Mount Penglai. And yet, why did she choose to call it Utopia?”

You misspelled the places it is Elysium not elysion. Agarta is sometimes agarta but it’s actually Agartha.

On a random note heaven and Elysium is trash. Complete pieces of shit really… Step one…. die and be dead. Not a good start for a form of eden. Shangri-La, Horai, Penglai, Agartha and other places are places that if someone chose to… they could actually leave. Being dead stops that option from the start. No assurances on being able to go to heaven or Elysion at death and that’s only if one thinks there is a place after death and on TOP OF THAT….. if one thinks there is a checkpoint for incoming spirits/souls/whatever >_> (eg. river styx or King Yemma’s check in station, a bored Ryuk)
PS In case someone doesn’t know “Eden” is a place from a famous fiction and also a word defined as “a place of pristine or abundant natural beauty”

    1. PS In case someone doesn’t know “Eden” is a place from a famous fiction and also a word defined as “a place of pristine or abundant natural beauty”

      *dialing knights of templar hotline*
Hello ? Is this knights of templar hotline ?
      Yes… yes… I want to report something.
      Yes it’s important.
Apparently there’s some individual that will need some portion of your “teaching”
you can track him/her from the link I provided in your email.
Yeah, it’s the one about “eden” and fiction.
Okay, thanks for your hard work.
      *put down phone*

Hmm ? No I’m not spy or someone suspicious, it’s probably your imagination.

      1. Ahh yes the famous racists Knights of Temper. They are more busy trying to take over the world and fighting assassins then to worry about the internet. They don’t got enough manpower to take over all the superior non christian nations ( ▼Д▼)y─┛~~ let alone the webz

  16. Utopias I never like that term due to the fact that the guy who envision that utopia society is more inclined to be a dystopian society

    1. like Reco said above, utopia mean “no place”. it mean by definition that an ‘utopia’ is impossible to reach.

  17. Wow, Tamaki is worrying about the problem of Asora in … at least 10000 years latter.
Asora expands likely every day. Its population is about several ten thousands. Demi don’t reproduce as much as hu(hyu)man. And she is worrying about territory conflict

    1. Legit worries though, it better to settle the conflict before it happens and Makoto can even give preferable treatment to the beast-kin if he wants, and least those guys won’t betray him.

    2. Easily solve if they manage to make the natives speak that all understand. Lots of conflicts could be prevented by communication.

  18. Your Beta is showing Makoto-chan. Kyaaa….ecchi.

No seriously tho Makoto is so commited into his role he has practically no objective reflection of his own status. Forsaken by the bugddess, no other powerful being has given the Asora residents the amount of favour Makoto has provided. You don’t get to act Beta and try to force them to not worship you.

Also I feel that Tamaki is deserving of a slap and reprimand. The Asoran residents are mainly immigrants deprived of favourable living conditions due to Bug’s interference.
For her to suggest to Makoto to kill off the genuine Asoran ‘natives’ for colonial expansion is terrible and makes him no better as a ruler.

  19. Aah, Tamaki throwing that hint out there. Not like she would keep it from Makoto should he have asked.

The Makoto of the past would naively observe Tamaki… this Makoto, a student of Rembrandt will eventually come up with a plan for dealing with Tamaki. Right now she’s in training so it’s understandable why she can’t go outside. His followers haven’t sensed it so far, since the one place they cold hearts could possibly care for is asora.

The labyrinth arc huh. Highly doubt this arc is some vacation especially with Makoto’s luck on your side. The other two major powers arc had heroes to advance the plot, wonder what Lorel has… don’t think an arc for Aion will happen, like never, only visit they are getting is a nuke from Makoto’s pinky.

Tsiege gaining independence is a bad thing for Hibiki, since she needs a way into the wasteland to find Makoto’s “true base”. It would be disadvantageous for her, if she went through the normal means, as in, befriending until she earns his trust. Since that would essentially dig her own grave, since exploiting such as secret right after earning their trust would be suspicious.

Funny thing, Lime’s sword knows of Hibiki’s location at all times.

I can see Sairitz being infected by the same madness Rembrandt has. If you think about she’s only interested in Chiya, she doesn’t seem religious, since this revolution is no different to raising the middle finger towards the BUG. She doesn’t believe in bloodline too.

    1. Is Makoto’s plan going to work though? I personally can’t see him outsmarting a divine representative sent by Gods. He can have Tomoe, Mio, and Shiki chase their own tails since he understands them and their interests, but Tamaki is an enigma. Only way he can deal with her now is through force.

As for the Labyrinth arc, I foresee a problem with Night Clad, the Darkness Supreme Dragon. Maybe because some PERVERT may have forgot to kill him and erase his memories as agreed to. The dragon will probably go on Defcon 5 the moment Makoto shows up.

Also will Hibiki really do that during the middle of a war with the Demons? I feel like she will try to take out the Demon King before engaging in a plan to “seal” Makoto. Poor girl though… the moment when you realize that the Final Boss is an easier adversary than your kouhai…

      1. Makoto outsmarting someone like Tamaki? No-no, can’t see that happening. But “deal” with her yeah, in some form. As in kill her or welcoming her, nothing will happen unless he confronts her about her behavior and at that time Makoto won’t believe a word she says unless it’s satisfactory. Pushed to a corner, Tamaki will have no choice but to come clean on her feelings towards Makoto. My assumption is that she hates Makoto because he is responsible for her true master’s (Tsukiyomi) condition right now. As we saw before and during the fight with Makoto she seemed to be testing him. Hopefully she’ll understand Makoto.

Defcon 5! Lol that cracked me up. Tomoe understands Root’s nature so i’m pretty sure she would confirm whether or not Clad’s memories were wiped, since she’s going there for a vacation. Whether his memories were really wiped or not, Root would still be smiling in either case. Memories not wiped: Clad plot’s against Makoto. Memory wiped: Clad shits bullets the moment he learns of Makoto and co.

Hibiki would do that in the middle of a war, if this novel were animated you’d see just how idiotic the hyumans are: their capital in ruins and they hold a banquet. If it were animated you’d see that Limia at that time would need to be on guard against a major power or the demons, heck even a group of mercenaries could take that capital in that state. Ahem, yep Hibiki would visit Makoto at this time, especially with this revolution going on.

“the moment when you realize that the Final Boss is an easier adversary than your kouhai…”
Is the moment you bail on your country and your duties as a hero.

      2. @momongamymonga
Point 1: Point taken. Also I have my own theory about Tamaki, where she came from, and where her allegiance lies. But until I have more proof, I can’t say anything as it is just something I came up with after a lifetime of reading sci-fi novels and comic books concerning alternate realities.

Point 2: Also taken. Either way Root will be spying on them the moment he gets a word of their visit. He didn’t get to see Ba-chan’s reaction to Makoto when he visited her so he is not going to miss this one if he can.

Point 3: The Hyumens are stupid, not Hibiki (arguably); though Joshua is remarkably smart, not as much as Sairitz or Rembrandt, but still better than her most of her peers. With Bredda as the puppet king and those two calling the shots, they virtually hold all the real royal power available. They can deal with the idiots and will likely focus on the war with the Demons, as they are currently hostile, and leave Makoto alone as he is neutral for now.

  20. yeah… yeah… why not? I mean if Raidou will kick that bug goddess then he’d have to find her replacement. So he can be her replacement, i think?
    thank you!

  21. When commenting about that ‘Utopia’, some of us gave the impression that it is a place that would ‘fall’. Even Makoto…

I’d have to agree with this. This sounds like a dark foreshadow. Will Asora fall in the future? I hope not! I don’t want anything bad to happen to Ema also.

  22. If anything happen to Asora, or anyone close to Makoto, I’m sure he will turn into his ‘microwave version’.

We have pray that doesn’t happen to our Makoto. Now, what he got to do is turn Asora into a real ‘Paradise’. A ‘Paradise’ doesn’t ‘fall’. I might get ‘lost’ though…

    Now, talking about Ema …

    😁

  23. Thanks for the chapter. I feel like Makoto needs to stop hesitating in his words when he speaks to his followers. I do not like Tamaki at all.

  24. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA thanks for the chapter as always, Well I am really not that surprised that they consider him a GOD hahahahaha, I just ask myself what kind of praying they do for him, what kind of god he is in their eyes, a God of War and Victory, a God of Harvest and Fertility, a God of Creation and Development???? What kind of Divinity he is for them. So what do you interesting collegues think of Tamaki assentment about the wild life in Asora???

    1. I think the prayers and views are different depending on the species. The Orcs, Artes, and Gorgons probably see Makoto as their savior, the Mist Lizards see him as a War God seeing how he has defeated their own God (Shen/Tomoe), the Eldwarves probably view him as a something like a Wisdom God and vie for his approval, blessing, and insight seeing how their much magic craft has advanced under his domain, the Forest Oni’s probably already have a private shrine in their own territory denoting him as the God of Bananas and Stuff, the Winged-kin and most of the sea residents probably just see him as a merciful god who has guided them to the paradise he has created, the fairies probably see him in a less favorable light considering what happened to them with Ema and the wolves; maybe as god of calamity. Levi, the Mountain turtle, and Sari are probably the only ones that don’t see him as a deity; but rather as goal to aspire to, a pleasant oddity, and the stuff of nightmares, respectively in that order.

  25. Ugh, Makoto just told Tamaki “If you can’t solve it with words use other means”. Tamaki. Who suggests genocide of the sapient wolves, bears and roc of Asora.

    Worshipper-BBQ? Hopefully not.

  26. thanks for the chapter!

“It has been a while since this Tamaki here has seen a person that is a ruler, and yet, treated as a God.”
all hail the god emper- *cough* waka-sama!

“Those kind of things are probably more fit for people that leave their mark in history.”
Sorry boy, but the first time you stepped on the battlefield, you left an indelible mark in history (and land) called ‘lake stella’

“the dissatisfaction of the residents in Asora is scarily low to the point of being surprising.”
like the firsts interviews, the dissatisfaction is “it’s too perfect, smell fishy”

Tamaki: the battle system was an incredibly good political decision to satisfy the battle oriented races, I am truly impressed.
Tomoe, Mio, Shiki: The playground is?
    God, they are killing me.

“My honest impression is that Asora is an incredibly ideal land. Yeah…just like an Utopia.”
    *bioshock flashback intensify*

Because of the name’s origin, and the circumstances of it.
Isn’t the origin of Utopia “Candid” where utipia stayed perfect and ideal without any problem?

Tamaki should know about the words denoting those kind of places, like: Elysium, Agartha, Eden, Heaven, Shangri-la, Mount Penglai. And yet, why did she choose to call it Utopia?
I may be wrong, but isn’t it because they all have supernatural trait, linked to mythology or god, whereas utopia is “perfect” without god nor magic?

“It is as if heaven is telling me to go to Lorel.
    Heaven, not the Goddess.”
the salt is real, correcting his own thoughts 🙂

  27. And with Tamaki, now there’s THREE of Makoto’s servants that I can’t really give a deep reading to. For Tamaki herself, not just deep, I totally can’t read even her surface, really. Why can’t they all be like good old Mio? She’s simple, direct, easy to understand. There’s been a few times with Tomoe that I didn’t really like how she said/thought/acted, or sometimes I even just understood her real hidden motives, and also something like that happened with Shiki once, and now with Tamaki added… I can’t really fully trust Makoto’s servant, except Mio. Let’s just say my trust towards them would be:
    Mio 100%
Shiki 90% (he “misbehaved” just once, but it was something big so he got -10%)
Tomoe 90% (I think whatever she’s doing all those many, many times, isn’t something detrimental towards Makoto, but she does it so many times she also got a good -10%)
finally, Tamaki 20% (she’s that high only because she’s basically bound to Makoto; otherwise, it would be less than 1%)
    tl; dr
    I don’t trust Tamaki.

    1. If we have had a single POV chapter of Tamaki, or even just a third-person narrative of what she is like when Makoto is not there, we would have a good feel of her.

Personally, I feel a little bit of mistrust is healthy in a relationship, blind devotion is detrimental to growth. I worry for Makoto of what he would have been like with Mio as his only follower/advisor.

  28. Thanks for the chapter.
Finally catch up with the translation after doing one week marathon amidst my study for mid-test this week

  29. People are calling tamaki evil, due to her sugestion but like she told makoto that he doesn’t like complicated things so she sugested the simple one that is to kill all of them, it’s a simple and fast solution, but in the end it’s his decision, and I’m not telling that she is not evil, she might be but her work there is to report things to him and give him options, right now I just see her as someone really good at politics which might be good to makoto group since nobody there has any background in that, she might even be to help in kaleneon if makoto trusted her enough to bring her along, though I agree in him being careful with her at least for now.
Now, for the animals there is even one more thing that was’t mentioned until now in the stoty, and that is how his protection of the wolves, bears… have influenced the Ecosystem, I mean protecting predators can cause real harm, a simple example is cats. in my neighborhood I used to wake up with birds singing, but now you don’t see any birds because a lot of people has cats now, and other people also capture them to sell too. Asora to me is pratically like that, there will be animals there going extinct at this rate for being hunted for both sides.

    1. You are making the mistake of comparing our animals to asoras animals. he can talk to them and it´s mentioned that they are very intelligent, like in many wuxia and xianxia novels, where Animals attains sentience. And it´s not like makoto protects them from deases or something. At elast i haven´t read a point where he actually took influence on the normal way those animal behave to their prey? In the normal wilderness, it´s not the predators that kill each other.

      1. it the hunger that kills predators. There is never a perfect equilibrium, that can be destroyed. it´always the cycle of many hunter-> not enough food-> hunter diy-> no hunter-> pray populates more-> more food-> more hunters.
Normally even if there are many hunter, Prey won´t go extinct, because hunter never prey on the healthy ones, that reproduce. Especially since those are normally way to quick and hard to get for the hunters.

  30. That’s how Tamaki became maybe thr character i prefer among the 4 followers. The way she hinted that Tomoe and cie are in fact doing a lot of things in the shadows without telling Makoto. Also Makoto should really understand is standing and what kind of existance he is now. I really think that when Makoto trully understand what’s happening around him it will be like be suddently awoke or like taking a big slap in the face.

  31. It seems like Tamaki need some education of environmental protection, wildlife protection and conservation, the meaning of ecosystem, and the balance of cycle of life… Don’t exterminate the animals, you B*TCH!! Are you truly someone who once served a god?? It’s questionable for me

  32. I don’t understand why didn’t Makoto answer her that Asora is ever-expanding, there has been never a case when it didn’t expand after his bow training. why slaughter animals when you have unlimited land.

    1. I mean, they kinda needed the “necessary evil” trait in his followers. I thought that, as a Lich, Shiki would take that role, but surprisingly he is softer than expected so yeah I kinda like her tho. Took the evil magistrate from Tomoe lmao

    2. maybe because she was previously tsukuyomi’s attendant and knowing that he lost his power and goes to sleep is because of makoto and the bug

  33. Tamaki smells like Princess Lily but Asora version. and I think the two have similar goals inside…which is bringing chaos and destruction to their homeland. It even coincides to Tamaki’s past actions until now.

Tamaki didn’t correct the wrong way of praying until Makoto ordered her to. Is she inducing conflict against the other gods? Also with Tomoe and Mio as well, letting out ideas in which they could fight. Even with the issue of the wild animals as well, being more inclined on destroying them rather than coexisting with them. And finally the way she spoke of Utopia. Its like she’s making Makoto a puppet of a tyrant for her ideal world or something.

    1. yeah im also looking forward to finding out if she had a plan or if thats just how she is. thought regarding the praying since Athena told Makoto that they will welcome him with open arms when his time ends, which could mean since he has the power and mana like that if a god that he might become a god when he dies and join them. Honestly he most likely would become a god which is connected to bows xD. But because they said that i only can see those three sitting togheter watching whats going on and laughing at the situation which they definitly would have thought would happen, that the residents pray to Makoto as their god xD

  34. Well Makoto, let your people worship and pray to you if it’s their wish ^^. Asking Tamaki to tell them NOT to do that seems pretty hypocritical giving his “tolerance” and “open-minded” personality

    1. I don’t think open mindedness extends to accepting yourself as a god figure. You’re a person, not a religion. You have the right to say how you want to be treated.

      1. well he’s always been treating like their “god” since the start of Asora, plus it’s not like it costs him anything to accept it or makes him do anything more than what he’s already doing ^^

        1. Who knows about the Praying Effect would be: like might developed divinity, one step away from god or something, we didn’t get much explanation of what becoming God would be but Makoto definitely don’t want to become one

  35. Well, future generations of Asorians will give Tamaki-In-The-Boxes instead of Jacks. It be funny if they also make variations like one with a shrine maiden outfit, one covered in gore with blades, one with with a broom, Oni mask, Balls in a jar, …

  36. if anyone has seen the anime “Noragami” which has gods with followers that are called “heavenly instruments” or something like that. in it there was one such instrument that had made contracts with multiple gods and was considered a taboo tool.

so when it comes to tamaki i keep on remembering that, so i can’t trust her.

    1. Mixing loyalties is always a muddy thing, if those you swear loyalty to or side with ever come into conflict it becomes a question of who your more loyal too. Also we saw mentioned before that master servant contracts aren’t absolute, if the servant thinks what their doing is good for their master and doesn’t harm them it’s fine, like when mio made hibiki wary of makoto, tomoe keeping info from him, and Shiki saying his harsh criticisms towards amelia were makotos words. So if I’m tamaka eyes her actions aren’t negative leaning towards makoto she can do what ever she wants and let’s say she got orders from gods to cause problems or her intentions were to cause problems she could always think of some way to justify her actions in her heart. Also it’s was very briefly mentioned before but after makoto succeeded in using creation and his alternate timeline dreams ended one of the gods said if they weren’t stopped from interfering because of their “collars” they would have waged war on makoto. So even the 4 friendly gods are more in the neutral leaning category and are pretty sus, tamaki could be used by them to put a collar on makoto in ironic way

  37. Tamaki will be the self proclaimed Hammer of God(Makoto) in Asora. Even if its logically speaking, doing genocide on the pretext of a safe future is truly evil. I think Tamaki is truly an evil being that will put Makoto’s morals to the test. If he is to become God one day, i think the influence of tamaki will make a large impact in Makotos history as a God.

  38. Okay, Tamaki is really sus. She’s supposed to be absolutely loyal, but like Tomoe, Mio & Shiki… they are always doing stuff that they know they shouldn’t? I get he wants to treat them as family and not rule over them, but they shouldn’t have so much liberty in regards to reports to him. I have to admit, Tamaki is starting to look like that evil kid sent by the gods to try and separate Makoto from his 3 true followers. Otherwise, it may be a scheme by the gods to warn Makoto to not fully trust them because of what they’re holding back?

  39. I don’t get why everyone is calling Tamaki evil, sure her ways are a bit more ruthless than others but I have not seen any signs of her messing with Asora or Makato, she simply gave an idea of killing the animals.

Another thing is about the residence praying to Makato, in my opinion, it should be obvious that if they are going to pray to anyone it should be Makato cuz he is literally the God of that world, why should they pray to the other 3 gods? When they have nothing to do with Asora. And besides, why do some say that when Tamaki allows them to pray to Makato it will create problems with the other gods? Like if they actually get mad that the people of Asora don’t pray to them and instead do it to Makato then they clearly are super arrogant or never had any intentions to be friendly with mc.

    1. Tamaki was literally introduced as evil. Makoto noticed she was evil and just hiding her intentions right off the bat, but was planning to ignore it and name her Sakura. He got out the “sa” of “sakura” and then changed his mind, named her Tamaki, and went over to Rembrandt to voice his intention to stop being willfully ignorant of others ill intent. I’ll also note that suppressed evil intent is the reason Makoto decided she would never leave Asora. She’s still stuck there because Makoto still hasn’t figured out the evil in her.

Of course, since you already admitted she was ruthless, you probably meant more along the lines of why people don’t trust her. That’s simply because the source of her evil is still hidden. She could be trying to lead Makoto astray, she could be trying to bait Makoto into giving her permission to slaughter, or she could simply be like a dog that wound up bloodthirsty because it was repeatedly told to kill without receiving love. The latter is something that will fade with time as she gets used to serving Makoto, but the former two would mean she’s a poison that should be handled with caution until a proper antidote has been found.

  40. Tamaki is fine the way she is
she is not like Tomoe and Mio who love Makoto.
she got to Asora because of the 3 Gods, and Daikokujin-sama said himself to Makoto that he will gain a fourth follower. so i think she is not evil.
lets wait until we showed her POV

  41. Haven’t seen much Pov chapter lately but looking forward to Tomaki and the reason why Makoto name her that and what her existence mean to Asura and Makoto. Will it be like poison or will it be medicine?
