Chapter 215: Failure and Success

Sponsored Chapter

Felt like this chapter HAD to come out in the same day, so here it is, the chapter that was supposed to come tomorrow 😛

Now then, let’s begin.

The snow country’s hot spring plan -no wait, the big step to revitalize Kaleneon.

Just in case, I went around the hot springs of Lorel and learned about the special traits of the places where hot springs might come out of.

If I search for similar places in Kaleneon and dig a hole there, hot springs should come out.

An unexpected guest is also cooperating, so it is just a matter of time before it succeeds.

“Fuhahaha, it is truly cold! It tenses the body, right Waka-sama?”

He is laughing it off, so I don’t know how cold he actually feels.

Special guest number 1, Neptune Serwhale-san was lively, even within the blizzard.

It seems like he has had experience in the north sea, so this cold should be nothing for him.

Is what I thought but…

“Impossible. This cold is simply impossible. I can’t move anymore; I can’t feel anything. I am dying~uuh~.”

In contrast to Serwhale-san that is practically naked, there’s one girl that is wrapped up in layers of clothing and yet, is sitting down and trembling heavily.

This one here supposedly lived in quite the northern parts of this place though.

“Levi, you are exaggerating. In the first place, you guys live in the sea in winter, so the cold in the land shouldn’t be such a big deal, right?” (Makoto)

If normal people were to jump into the sea in winter, their bodies wouldn’t be able to stand it.

And she is living in a place like that, so her feeling cold in land looked strange to me.

“Waka-sama, excuse me for interjecting, but this place is quite cold. On top of that, the wind here is also strong. I think it would be harsh for most of the sea races.” (Serwhale)

Serwhale-san does a follow-up for Levi.

Is that true?

I look at Levi once again, and as if denying my words completely, she nods her head up and down.

Eh?

“Is that so? I thought that if the sea race lives in the north, they would be fine with the cold. And when I said there would be somewhat strong mamonos, Levi-san, you were the one who said that you wanted to come.” (Makoto)

When the talk about hot springs came out, I went to do a preview in Lorel, and after that, I returned to Asora where I coincidentally met up with the Neptunes and the other sea races who had come to the town, and from there, it ended up with the talk about hot springs.

At that time, Serwhale-san said that there’s a place where the temperature is increased because of things like the eruptions of submarine volcanoes, and so, they ended up accompanying me to Kaleneon.

He said that within the Neptunes, there’s people that ‘bath’ in the warmed waters.

Bathing when already inside water, I don’t understand that sensation.

It seemed like the battle-junky Scylla, Levi, was interested in the mamonos at the blizzard regions, so she came with us, but…Levi, who was the most vigorous one when we were leaving from Asora, was now the most weakened one. The reason being that it is cold.

“This is impossible~. Fighting in a place like this is suicidal. I want to go back. I seriously want to go home, Waka-sama~.” (Levi)

She is a goner.

I return Levi, who was trembling inside her blanket, to Asora.

Hm, I have found an unexpected weak point.

“If I was lacking a bit more training, I might have turned out that way too. If there’s a fight in the northern lands, it might become fatal. I have earned a nice experience.” (Serwhale)

Serwhale-san doesn’t seem like he wants to return.

Actually, he looks fine.

“Then, let’s go.” (Makoto)

Resuming our search for hotsprings, I speak out.

But Serwhale-san looks at me and nods as if in admiration.

“…Ehm, is there something wrong?” (Makoto)

“No, I was just impressed. As expected of our master, is what I thought. Even in cold of this level, you are able to move like normal.” (Serwhale)

“Serwhale-san as well, you are totally different from Levi.” (Makoto)

“Me? By nature, we people that live in the sea have the ability to adjust our temperature. But Waka-sama is different. Even though you should be unable to live underwater, you can act in water like normal, and in land, no matter if it is hot or cold, you are able to advance without caring about it. On top of that, if the opponent is in the sky, you are able to reach all the way up there. You are already unrivaled; able to accommodate to any terrain.” (Serwhale)

Land, sea, and air; I have already reached S class when dealing with those.

No wait, that’s not it.

When talking about terrain adaptability, I feel like I am being treated as a hyuman-shaped weapon.

“I am forcing myself by using magic after all.” (Makoto)

“If it’s Waka-sama, you would most likely be able to move freely in the starry sky sea as well. For us Neptunes, there’s a legend that says that when you continue to train yourself, you will become a hero that can even adapt to the starry sky sea.” (Serwhale)

Serwhale-san retorted to me with a joking tone mixed in it.

Serwhale-san, what a scary person.

“Ahaha, but I was also surprised. To think that a race of the sea would be weak against cold.” (Makoto)

While climbing a mountain in Kaleneon which I have gone to for a decent amount of times, we do idle talk.

It is not a mountain of incredible height, but it is a volcano.

It resembles the underground space I saw in the Lorel hot springs with the magma and the arrangement of the water vein, so I think I can expect quite a bit from it.

“Fumu…It is not only in cold. The races that live in water are weak to the changes in temperature by foundation.” (Serwhale)

“Is that so?” (Makoto)

“Even if we talk about the sea of winter, it is more normal that the water temperature is higher than that of the outside. Just like how people like to play in the sea and rivers at summer, the water is colder than the outside. The temperature change of the water is more stable, and the difference in high and lows is not that big.” (Serwhale)

“…That’s true.” (Makoto)

Putting an example, Serwhale-san makes it easier to understand.

I feel like instead of going into a detailed explanation, he is putting it all together in a way that it can be understood as a whole.

“It is the same with the frozen river you saw just now. Below it, there’s water flowing. The surface is the part of the water that has touched the air and froze, but in the bottom part, the fish and living beings are still continuing with their lifestyle. Of course, it is warmer than the place we are walking in right now.” (Serwhale)

“No matter if you live in the seas of the north, it doesn’t mean that you have adapted to the cold of the north’s land huh. You are saying that the temperature inside the water is easier to live in?” (Makoto)

“Yes. There’s a thick cover of ice on the river; the mountains will be dyed in pure white, and the blizzard will not stop. In that kind of place, it is not an environment that people living underwater would be able to endure. And in reality, the sea races that are participating in the Asora ranking are all suffering by the fire and ice magic.” (Serwhale)

Inside the water huh.

I have learned something new.

“Thanks for the lesson. I was thinking lightly of it, thinking that you guys would be fine since you live inside the water. Ah, it should be around here. Serwhale-san, how is it?” (Makoto)

“Being able to advance without getting lost within this field of vision, as expected of Waka-sama. Please wait for a bit. Hm, it is certainly true that I feel the slight presence of a bath from below here.” (Serwhale)

It is a bit sad that for Neptunes, hot springs equal baths, but I was a bit happy knowing that there’s a race that knows of its existence.

It seems like the other sea races found it dangerous to get close to it, so there’s a lot of races that don’t know of submarine volcanoes and hot springs.

The races living at the shore were also in a similar situation.

The eldwas may have known of it, but it seems like they didn’t think of taking a bath in it.

Anyways, I have received the confirmation of Serwhale-san.

Now there’s only the digging left.

“Now then, let’s try digging. Ah, a guest.” (Makoto)

“Good grief. If Levi had endured for a bit more…no, looking at that state of hers, I don’t think she would have been able to move at all.” (Serwhale)

Serwhale-san makes a bitter smile.

And then, he slowly takes his stance.

He points forward his trident that surpasses his height.

The numbers are three.

The hot spring challenge is waiting for me, so I don’t mind dealing with them myself.

But even if I say that, they are not enemies I have to bring out Azusa to deal with.

It seems like they are just simple mamonos living in this mountain.

It should be fine with Brid.

“Waka-sama, please leave it to me.” (Serwhale)

Maybe Serwhale-san noticed my movements, he told me not to act.

Well, this person doesn’t seem like he would lose, so I can tell that it would be fine.

When I cancel my Brid, he thanked me.

Can’t be helped. Let’s just do the preparations for digging.

I am simply taking out the tools of the Elder Dwarfs though.

“If you are going to camouflage, do it in a harder to perceive way!” (Serwhale)

The white beast that was poking out its head from the snow and camouflaged in it, was turned to shreds.

Instead of camouflage, it felt like its body had melded with the snow, but…well, for him, something like this is a small deal.

Blue blood and pieces of meat are scattered around.

A headbutt huh.

Even though he has no horn on his head, that headbutt had impressive power.

There’s nothing left of that mamono’s original form.

Next, Serwhale-san thrusts his spear to the right.

He said that the field of vision was bad, and yet, he has a perfect grasp of his opponent’s location.

The spear of Serwhale-san moved as if it was gravitating towards the bird-like mamono that had made a nosedive from the sky.

Being skewered from head to torso, the bird of notable size explodes from the inside and this one also didn’t maintain its original form.

Truly simple and strong.

There’s one who ignored him and plunged at me.

It is fast.

This way of moving, a snake?

“How pretentious!” (Serwhale)

But the movements of the snake stopped.

Ah, the place that seems to be its tail has been pierced by the spear.

And then, I think I heard something resembling a tremor, and…

At the side of the snake, there’s a whale.

“Hah!!”

His fist pulverizes the head of the wriggling snake.

Serwhale-san, even if you left your spear behind, it would have still been fine.

“Splendid job.” (Makoto)

“No, as expected, when it comes to land and on top of that being cold, my movements and senses get duller. I will try even harder in my training.” (Serwhale)

That’s considered duller?

It was a total smashing though.

The mamonos around this area are supposed to be relatively strong, but it seems they were no enemies in the face of a Neptune.

“I see. Then I will be digging so I am counting on you to keep and eye o–ooout?!” (Makoto)

A spiralling spear.

Well, only the pointed part of the spear is a drill though.

I used the spear that was given to me, set it properly right down, and the instant I pour magic power into it…it suddenly began spinning!

No well, I can understand that it spins, since I could tell that from its shape, but I thought it would only be the drill part that would be spinning!

Even the handle part was spinning, moreover, it is spinning with such speed that even I am spinning!!

“Waka-sama?!” (Serwhale)

“I am fiiineee~~~ probably!” (Makoto)

I just have to let go of it.

I could understand that in my head, I could understand, but because of the centrifugal force, it felt like I was being pulled from the outside, and my body reflexively gripped the handle harder.

I can’t explain the reason for my reflexive movement.

For some reason, I was still holding it.

Also, as long as the drill part is not the only part that is spinning, I thought for a second that if we left it to brute force when trying to stop it, it might break.

“U-Uwaa!”

The drill that has wedged into the ground was scattering earth in a grand manner while increasing its speed and going deeper underground.

The voice of Serwhale-san is already far and I can’t hear it.

I use the Magic Armor to block the earth and stones that were spouting forth as the spinning continues to increase in speed and digs underground at lightning speed.

Aside from my eyes spinning around, there’s no real problem, but as expected, I can’t just advance underground until the end of times.

I steel myself and release my hands from the handle.

The spear that was spinning for a while more, had stopped moving by the time I recovered my balance. It settled down, stuck into the ground.

It was an incredible attraction.

For now, I try checking upwards.

“I have dug pretty far~. If it doesn’t work after digging so much, this place is a failure huh.” (Makoto)

It had surpassed the planned profundity by a lot.

But when I confirmed with Sakai, I was supposed to have plunged onto the hot spring before reaching this depth though.

“Could it be, I missed the mark? It is possible. I didn’t know what was happening in the middle of that, so it is possible that the trajectory shifted at some point in time.” (Makoto)

Within the damp and humid atmosphere, I imagine a lot of scenarios.

Of course, I was also determined in having them remodel this spear so it only spins at the tip.

“For now let’s get out of here. If I make some footholds, I should be able to jump out… Wait, humid atmosphere? Damp?” (Makoto)

Ah.

As I was looking up, I suddenly realized.

That this place is actually the correct one, but me being here is pretty bad.

As if confirming me this, the place where I was looking up at, the left side of the earth wall swelled up in an unnatural manner.

Right after, it crumbled.

A massive amount of water -no, boiling water, ended up falling right down at me.

“That was dangerous. It looks like it has quite the high temperature. Seems like it would be hard to enter this water in its current state. Seriously, it is great that I have this Magic Armor.” (Makoto)

The seething boiling water began to fill up the place.

I let my body be pushed by the boiling water, and I float along with it.

If I had been bathed in it with my flesh, I would have received burns, or more like, it would have been a matter of life and death. While feeling indebtedness to my own power, I felt relieved that the first step has been successful.

I jump out one step before the water, and land safely.

“…To think that…you would dig it out at your first try… I am filled in awe. So even in places like this, baths can come out. Welcome back, Waka-sama.” (Serwhale)

“That’s not a bath, it is a hot spring. It seems it was a place with more hot water than I thought. It might be hard to make a path.” (Makoto)

“If you are not in a hurry, you can let it accumulate over there. Since the stream is far away from the town, it should be fine to just leave it as it is. It doesn’t confluence with the rivers of the surroundings after all.” (Serwhale)

“I see. You have made a place to let it accumulate. Thank you.” (Makoto)

When I check, I could see that there’s a bowl-shaped place below.

The hot water was beginning to flow into it.

“Waka-sama was digging, so I thought that it would be good to be ready for it just in case. Fortunately, it was a soft rocky area, so it only needed a few pokes.” (Serwhale)

Did he use his fists, or maybe his head?

He spoke in a way that didn’t feel as if he used his spear, but it scared me to confirm it.

As I thought, Serwhale-san has no need for a spear.

It is quite a few distance away from the town, but I have obtained the hot spring.

The construction related work for this can be done later, so in the future, this can be dubbed as hot spring number 1 of Kaleneon.

And so now, about the town…

Within the blizzard that continues as always, I call the Mist Gate to teleport to the town while I thought of a way to melt the snow of the town with the warm water.

◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆

Outskirts of Kaleneon.

In the snow field that at a glance looks like there’s nothing, there’s Serwhale-san, a number of Eldwas, Eva, and me.

Ruria caught a cold huh.

How to say this, I lately have been having bad timings and have not been able to meet with Ruria that much.

Shiki and Mio have been talking quite a bit about her though.

This time there’s no real need to force her to come, so I just entrusted the medicine to Eva-san.

“Uhm, what did you say just now?”

“Like I said, I have obtained a prospect hot spring. The construction work can’t be done immediately, but for now I have dug it up, so there’s boiling water gushing out from the mountain.” (Makoto)

“Uhm, you climbed a mountain that has nonstop blizzards and dug up a hole?”

“That’s right. Eva, you were the one who said it was fine to do whatever I wanted in that place since there’s no one living there yet and it is far from the town too, right?” (Makoto)

“That’s true, but to go digging holes in a place where the mamonos have not been dealt with at all, and finish the job at that same day. That’s just…” (Eva)

“The mamonos are not stupid, Eva-dono. Most of the fellows there understood their lack of ability and curled their tails. There were a few who attacked us, maybe because they were hungry or because they were stupid, but there were no problems.” (Serwhale)

Serwhale-san responded to Eva.

The two of them have already introduced themselves.

Eva-san is already okay with whatever comes out from the Kuzunoha Company, so she simply accepted Serwhale-san with sunken eyes.

As expected, you would imagine whales to be bigger than this, right?

“That’s… Serwhale-san did it?” (Eva)

“It was something that even I was plenty enough to deal with.” (Serwhale)

Serwhale-san nods and affirms it.

The dwarfs that were at the side seem to be in admiration as well.

“That’s impressive-ja. In that blizzard, the field of view is bad and the mamonos are in an advantage after all. From what I have heard, there’s a Snow Lion that melds in the snow and nullifies physical attacks; Icicle Flams that attack you with precision; and there’s also the Cyclop Serpent that swims in the snow without creating any sound. Those are dangerous mamonos that live in the mountains of this area. It seems like you were able to proceed without encountering them, but in the volcano that is filled with difficulties, that’s quite impressive.”

“If you encounter those for the first time, it just ends up in checkmate after all. But well, you are truly worthy of being at the side of Waka-sama.”

“I am grateful. It must be thanks to this spear that I have received from your comrades. It was a fortune that we didn’t encounter such terrifying enemies.” (Serwhale)

…I think we literally encountered those three.

This is just a supposition, but I think that those guys didn’t have worthy opponents, so they felt like they were the kings around these parts and attacked us who were in their territory.

I did catch their figures with Sakai and they fit the description.

Ah, so the one that was turned to minces first was the lion that attacked us in the demon race territory?

It is certainly true that at that time its body seemed to be made out of snow and it felt like it was nullifying the attacks of the weapons.

Even when it looked like it was defeated, it soon stood back up and attacked again after all.

In front of Serwhale-san, it was instant death huh.

I give out a prayer to the three kings(maybe) of that mountain.

The dwarfs and Serwhale-san were talking about topics of weapons and fighting, and were getting fired up.

“And so, I will try to draw the hot spring to the town by this winter. And in the meantime…” (Makoto)

“Yes.”

“This place is a reservoir that has been frozen and can’t be used, right?” (Makoto)

I point out at the snow field that is in front of me.

Eva nods.

“Since it is slightly distanced from the town, the maintenance has been delayed too. It is currently unavailable for us.” (Eva)

“Then that’s perfect. For now, I will be melting it.” (Makoto)

I create a number of fireballs and throw them.

Obviously, the snow and ice melts and the snow field returned to being a pond.

Hmph~, its size is around this much huh.

It is appropriate to use as experiment.

“If Waka-sama were to come here everyday, the snow problem would be resolved though. If you were to come five to six times a day to melt the snow in the surroundings, it would be perfect.”

That would be harsh.

Wouldn’t it take around 30 minutes each time?

“If not for Raidou-sensei, we would need several magicians and adventurers and it would take around half a day; something that you have accomplished in just a couple seconds. Fuh~.” (Eva)

That last sigh was heartrending, Eva.

Now then, let’s try the second step.

The hot spring digging went well, so I hope this one goes well too.

I take out one crimson ring from my pocket.

A scrapped Draupnir that is being managed by the Elder Dwarfs.

Lately, the amount of times it turns completely red in a day’s time has increased so much that they have accumulated quite a bit.

It seems like Ema has thought of an incredible way to dispose of them, but if this matter goes as I want it to, I plan on utilizing it as one of the methods to dispose of them.

“That is…a Draupnir.”

The dwarf looks in surprise at the ring with his brows furrowed.

It would be a different case if it were white, but a red one is not something that one would normally walk around with.

Eva-san was watching over the situation with hard to understand feelings, and Serwhale-san was looking with interest.

I have the Draupnir in my hand float slightly upwards, and on top of that, I add my magic power into the stored up magic power inside of it to set it up.

I make it so that the ring itself has a simple magic constantly activated.

The outward appearance of the ring that looks as if it was made by the iron of smelting furnaces, was clad in a vivid red.

Yup yup.

With this, it probably can be used as a heat generating tool.

“Well then, just in case, prepare something to defend yourselfs with. I think it will be fine though. I will cover Eva; Serwhale-san, I leave the dwarfs to you.” (Makoto)

“…Understood.” (Serwhale)

For some reason, Serwhale-san makes a serious expression as he has the dwarfs step back and takes a formation where he is at the front of them.

I guard Eva-san by enclosing her in the arm of my Magic Armor.

Now then…

“Here I go~~~” (Makoto)

“?!!!”

The tension of Serwhale-san increases in an instant.

Why?

While thinking it was strange, I release the magma colored ring to the pond which I thought needed at least this much heat since it is in a place of constant cold.

?!

The ring that left my hand, for some reason, had increased in output by a lot and shone in an instant?!

The moment that ring touched the water surface, it made an incredible sound.

I don’t know what was happening, but anyways, it was an incredible sound.

My vision had turned pure white, and I couldn’t tell right from left.

This is strange.

I estimated the water to boil.

I even thought that maybe it would splash around as well.

But the result was clearly different from what I imagined.

“Just what is…” (Makoto)

After a while, silence returns to the surroundings.

Checking that Eva-san, the dwarfs, and Serwhale-san were okay, I slowly look at the pond.

Because of the vapour that coursed through the surroundings like a hot gale, the snow had completely melted and the light brown ground was exposed.

Speaking of the reservoir…the outer circumference had been shaved off in a pretty forceful manner, and the water inside was gone.

And the ground at that place was dyed in deep red.

It felt like lava.

Oh?

That ring, did I enhance it way too much?

Leaving aside the joking, did I go too far even when it was going to be used for winter?

I don’t know the reason for the explosion, but because of it, the water was all blown up and the ring was fallen there.

It seems like it wasn’t blown into pieces even when it exploded.

And so, the heat that it emitted has melted the ground huh.

I can tell that the ring is floating at the surface of the lava, but…

When taking into account the sudden change in state, it feels kind of unstable.

“…”

I was worried about Eva who’s the one with the lowest fighting power here, and I once again look at her.

As expected of the person that is in charge of a country, she is a firm one.

Her mouth was a straight line, and her face didn’t show surprise.

“It wasn’t an experiment that was supposed to explode though~ Hahaha.” (Makoto)

“…”

I tried to laugh away this complicated atmosphere, but there was no reaction.

This is bad. Did I anger her?

“At any rate, what was that just now?” (Makoto)

“…It is a pretty natural occurrence when throwing a mass of high heated metal to a water surface, Waka-sama.” (Serwhale)

I was attacked by common sense again huh.

There was also the vegetable that emitted heat, that’s just unreasonable.

Serwhale-san answers my question that wasn’t directed at anyone in particular, with a slightly tense expression.

…So he was able to predict it would end this way, and that’s why he was nervous huh.

“I-Is that so? So you were able to predict it.” (Makoto)

“In the middle of it, it was controlled to a certain extent, so I thought it would be okay, but…it was good that I was mentally prepared for it.” (Serwhale)

So when it was in my hands, it was still in a state where it could go well?

Tentatively speaking, I wanted that ring to emit heat moderately until its magic power ran out, and change the water that flows in this pond into hot water.

And with the already existing waterways, it would provide warm water in this winter, but…it has ended in a splendid failure.

It actually created great damage by destroying one reservoir.

Let’s fix this as we work on the hot spring project.

“Eva, I’m sorry. As you can see, it was a failure. I will find a way to fix it, and I will ask about countermeasures for the cold and the snow, so…” (Makoto)

“…”

“…Eva?” (Makoto)

Her state is strange.

Or more like, her eyes have not moved for a while now.

“Excuse me.”

A dwarf approaches Eva and rudely pokes her face with the tip of his hammer.

Even if your height is lacking, doing that to a woman is just rude.

Eva would get angry as well.

But not only did she not get angry, she didn’t show any sort of reaction.

Eh?

“It seems she lost consciousness from that explosion just now. It was an explosion that astonished even us, so it can’t be helped.”

Let’s do something about Kaleneon.

Bringing her all the way here and making her faint from an explosion, only to deteriorate the situation; that just makes me feel way too bad.

It would be good to ask Zef how to manage a northern land when I meet with him.

It seems like the demon race didn’t develop Kaleneon properly, but they were at least able to maintain it as a fortress.

Looking at the fainted Eva who was looking straight to the front, I seriously thought of this.

    1. Yes! Double release today! This occasion is to celebrate..
      Happy holiday… or happy birthday… somebody or something… Doesn’t matter. Let’s celebrate!

Truck-kun says “Thank You” for the double release.

      So… no chapter tomorrow?

      1. But.. but… I was only saying Hi.

        (つ﹏<。) ~ ᴾᵉᵒᵖˡᵉ ⁿᵒ ˡⁱᵏᵉ Truck-kun

        ウッウッ,
        うっうっ

    1. I know, right?
He has ulterior motive and it didn’t turn out well. What kind of a schemer is this? Oh, it’s just Makoto.

… and Eva fainting while standing with open eyes.
      lol

      1. One rare occasion when it was too much bother to close your eyes when fainting, cannot be bothered by common sense, it’s just myth anyway.

  1. I just stopped my live stream to see this chapter. Dang it Reigo-senpai, this story you translate is just too irresistible.

Spoiler-san is gonna be mad when he finds out that this chapter was released while he was away…

Time for a shameless plug. If anyone wants to attend my stream, it’s on Twitch. My name on there is the same here. I’m only streaming a Yu-Gi-Oh game though. And starting it back up after I hit “post comment”.

      1. Most of what happens in the streams is that the viewers (mostly people who read my stories) talking about web/light novels and originals as well. And we joke about YGOTAS. Mainly, that’s the true gem of my streams. But yeah, everyone uses it as a discord server.

    1. Also if you explain a bit more about what’s going on in the game it would be helpful for people like me who understand the basics of yu gi oh but don’t know much about it

    2. Oooh i get it now, so it’s not so much about the game and more about a community to discuss different novels while playing. ….i like that idea. You should promote your stream more in that case in the different novels so people can join.

      1. The problem is that I don’t really wanna offend translators by advertising my streams on their sites. The only reason I mentioned it here was because Reigokai literally posted while I was streaming and I couldn’t wait to read. And because Reigo-senpai is forgiving.

    1. … One day, three mountain kings and an exploding Draupnir later…

It took two chapters to explain the onsen! Amd it’s not even finished building yet!

Wha.. even for a japanese novel, it’s quite an excessive detail for an onsen story. I swear that the author must be someone who’s extremely blindly in love with onsen. I don’t understand.

*question: if there’s separate baths, which one will Root enter?*

      1. I’m pretty sure that, firstly, Root would change and choose at their leisure. And secondly, there wouldn’t be separate baths outside of private/non private sections, since there’s no way Tomoe and Mio wouldn’t try to join him.

  2. Screw any sort of place, screw any sort of mention of what happens in the chapter at this point in time (haven’t read yet), right now I gotta jump with joy!

Whoohoo!!!! A Second Chapter! Thanks reigokai!

I’ll add a comment to add if I need to.

    1. Am I the only one who read the words “attacked by common sense”!?

Makoto said it! He finally said it! He KNOWS! Better than Satou just terraforming a word without magic…

In any way. That was actually pretty badass. If you look at the digging part… we all saw his true motives, but him screwing up is most-likely the funniest part there. I also think that it was only supposed to be the tip which turns, but he used to much magic power (the evidence is later in the chapter XD)

Secondly, it was a good plan, Makoto – heating up the river with the use of a draupnir, was a very good idea… The execution was just… lacking…? In any way. Now there will once again be a famous landmark which is contributed to the Devil. First it was the lake near Limia, then the Stella Fort Crater, and finally, the Kaleneon Magma pit!!!!

All in all, this was a pretty sweet chapter.

      1. You know, I just realized that if Makoto and Satou met, he would totally dump all his Drapnirs on him. Satou’s always using those Holy Swords as batteries, but this is probably even more efficient.

      2. lahaha. so the dwarves did make the drill properly. here was just too much magic power that the friction between the shaft and the handle was enough to make the handle turn with the drill bit. awesome.

      3. This is the birth of “Hell pits” the magical onsen created by the Devil himself, blessed by power of Sakai.

…. and the drill scene, I can only imagine he is going Gurren Laggan on that.

      4. Guren Lagann ! Drill to the Heaven !
        lol

This is one ‘comical’ scene. I can imagine Makoto with super-deformed face when spun with the drill.

  3. My god, how I loved this chapter. SO MUCH.

Where to start…Serwhale is awesome. Plain and simple.
I keep trying to imagine the sort of voice he has and what I’m getting is a very dignified-to the point of being regal voice that’s also polite and overflowing with charisma.

I…I would totally read a spinoff story about the adventures of Serwhale. He seems to be a cheat-level character in his own right already.

      1. I kinda see him with Alucard’s Voice… I do not know voice actors, so forgive me for only giving the anime character.

    1. the guy that has a nickname derived from him putting out freaking volcanoes?

Underwater once at that. Those actually grow larger than the once on land you know….

i wonder about his ranking in Asora cup. he should be close to the top, right? It says something about the average strength of hiss followers and the animals of asora that i can’t be totally sure about if the guy that slays volcanoes are among the strongest…

Also, do wolfking and Roc count in the rankings?

    1. kinda wondering cant he dump some snow on the crater and use the ring agan to heat it to maintain the hot water?

  4. *cough cough* Ahem.

    ARE YOU A CARTOON!? (ºДº)ノ

This whole chapter made me think of it as a cartoon. Makoto spinning around as part of the “drill”, Serwhale using epic head smash attacks, Makoto melting a reservoir to the point of evaporating everything and turning the land into magma…

I swear, the scene of Makoto being blasted out by the released hot spring water could be accompanied by the Goofy scream.

    1. it’s one of those name puns that would have been clear and awesome in the original language but in no way is translatable.

so reigokai had the choice of going with the russian (pronunciation) name or the actual name.

that said, thanks for making it clear, i had missed this pun, and it is hilarious.

      1. I backlogged the serwhale thing.
I think Reigokai misinterpreted the pun, he put ‘Serwhale gay’ on ch 203 although the raw put セル鯨 (Seru kujira) where 鯨 has furigana (japanese kanji reading aid) “gei” on it, making it read as “Serugei” or Sergei. I can’t really blame it because making the pun works in English is hard.

      2. On other note, maybe Reigokai isn’t wrong at all because in future chapters, it might be explained the ‘serwhale gay’ pun thing because I only read until Kuzunoha vacation arc ends. Reigokai or future chapters can clarify about this later on.

      1. ……..I’m sorry. But the idea of Common Sense fighting back only leaves me the image of a chibi fruitlessly punching Makoto in the chest while he just awkwardly stands around unsure of what to do.

Common Sense-chan: You wanna f*cking go!?
        Makoto: Umm…Serwhale-san? Eva-san? What do I…?

  5. easy ask the eldwas to design some kind of machine that generate heat drawing the magic of the rings.
or ask your aides to design some kind of magic circle that extract the magic from the ring and release heat. pretty sure tomoe, or shiki could know about how to do it. or maybe root?

    1. Just cast basic fire magic using draupnir as catalyst? It will be the same principle with our world heating technology. He probably just being careful about how draupnir should be distributed.

    2. this is what he TRIED to do. but he thought he needed to crank up the heat from the ring, since it was cold outside, totally forgetting that a few tens of degrees extra needed to heat it due to it being winter is totally neglectable when you have a ring that is outputting several thousands of degrees.

      1. The issue might be his personal jamming sekai that he keeps around himself to hide his power. It might have been affecting the ring while it was in his hand but the second it left the power went up by many magnitudes. Even Serwhale thought that it would be fine but the moment it left his hand when the threw it the power went from surpressed by his sekai to not, and created a lava pool where the pond used to be.

        1. he knew how much power it had. the draupnir are pretty much constant in their energy capacity, or he wouldn’t have had to increase the amount he goes trough in a day.

he just didn’t bother to use math when he decided the output, he just went “about this much should be good, right? maybe just a bit more, it’s freezing outside after all”

as for the other guys, sure, sekai might have interfered. but the main problem is that he cranked up the output to “melt bedrock” level rather than “heat bathwater”

    3. I thought the solution was obvious. Makoto should just detonate a Drapnir or two in the sky as a floating fireball. It would more or less be an artificial sun.

Since it’s a distance away, there’s no risk of burning Kaleneon, but since it’s close to the falling snow, there’s no risk of flooding due to rain.

Actually, I’m totally in favor of selling these to the demons. I’m sure they could appreciate the value of some decent sun.

  6. Its a double!! Thanks Reigokai… please say that there will still be a Sunday chapter tomorrow.

Rip Eva’s common sense. First a whale guy comes, so she just accepted it as another weird Kuzunoha employee.

Now the Kuzunoha boss just ‘casually’ destroy a reservoir in front of her.

  7. I really enjoy those two human girls. That wasn’t a bad plan but man he really needs to ask folks for advice.

  8. Whelp, he finally did it. I don’t think Eva’s common sense is gonna recover from this one. If she represses the memory of it, possibly. But it’s doubtful.

  9. Thanks for the chapter! I wasn’t expecting this one today so I was doing something else and caught unawares, I’m hoping I’m still in the top 100. Time to read the chapter.

  10. Far in the distant future, people will find the ancient artifacts, the white rings. The demon king of the era will use it and sacrifice millions of lives to feed it power, in order to use it as a weapon of mass destruction.

        1. No, no. See…it already IS like that when that happens. Because someone already used the relic to activate the doomsday machine.

Makoto comes back afterwards, puts on the empty ring(which instantly fills it again), and looks around.

“What a mess…did the Drapnir do this? I’d feel guilty if I left it alone since I’m partially responsible…”

Then he shoots an arrow at the destruction-the concept of it, anyway. The destruction dies, things are all better again, and the god leaves. 😀

          1. Lol, that would be hell on earth…
Those stupid plebs think they can control the ring, but in actual fact, the ring destroys them…

  11. Ever since the smashjng line I couldn’t help but imagine Serwhale with Nigel Thornberry’s voice. 😁

  12. what did you expect makoto!?high heated metal and water??and it’s not a normal but a super heated one!! ofc it will create a boom!!

  13. Remember Simon, you drill is the drill that will pierce through the heaven ! ohh…waiit…. you’re not Simon !? oh sorry i get into the wrong universe (Kamina Spirit)

      1. Now just to let a little thought sink in… remember the eldwas first designed the Draupnirs to kill even a superior dragon, but Makoto easily filled that. Then there were multitude of other rings which where designed to kill even gods (Look at the manga and look at the weirdo’s face when he proclaims “I’ll look into curses which can kill even you”, there ain’t no way in hell they didn’t try to do that)

And now realize.. that Makoto keeps a multitude of those on him, and even in Asora. He is bloody a nuke breeding ground!.If someone were to attack him incorrectly and break a Draupnir, which then breaks others, setting of a chain reaction… I am pretty sure a supernova can form.

HEY! He should do that. Create an entire new galaxy! The Makato-verse!

(I’m tired! I apologize for the useless rambling)

  14. Maybe in a future you can see Kaleneon have an industrial revolution, i mean, they will use all the Draupnir as power resource to generate magical machines, like barriers and common ones… maybe even enhanced armors… there’s an infinite use to make power machines with those…

    Thanks for the chapter…

    1. Bad idea longterm.
They’d be too dependent on Makoto for fuel.
Better idea would be to use those volcanoes, try to get a few sustainable steampower plants going to provide for motive power and some forges, as well as around the year heating for cities and greenhouses.

Makoto probably has enough knowledge in his head to get the basic idea clear, and the dwarves have the skills to move to industrial scale usage of the technology.

That said, getting a few draupnirs for emergencies and some defensive weapons/barriers installed at major cities and industrial strongholds might be a nice idea.

  15. Thank you for the two releases.
Makoto really does seem like a someone out of a myth. OP and lacking in common sense can be a dangerous (and hilarious) thing. He’s the sort to go touring for the fun and will accidently destroy entire montains in the process somehow. Makoto’s clumsiness, for lack of a better word, is one of the things I adore about this series.

  16. Thanks 4 the chapter!

Get the feeling that we can power a starship with a couple of that ring. They seriously need to make devices that harness the power of those rings. Mechas, airships, submarines, or a city’s powerplant.

  17. Thanks for the double chapter. It seems we have more filler chapters this week. Can’t wait for the upcoming T*m*ki chapter.

  18. thanks for the chapter

“Bathing when already inside water, I don’t understand that sensation.”
    seriously, is this bikini bottom?

  19. Makoto has long ago turned it up to 11, and the knob got stuck so he can’t dial it back down. Even if he wants to, he can no longer do stuff at low level.

He’s like that character in anime and manga who is super dependable when s*** goes down, but is not trusted to do the ordinary chores around the house and everyone scrambles to stop him when he gets the idea to do it anyway.

Also, Draupnir = ZPM. I have a feeling it will become the main export of Asora to Kaleneon, and that Kaleneon will become the nation of magic, complete with floating islands and other cool stuff.

I can’t help but be reminded of “One mans trash is another mans treasure”. 😀

    1. “one mans trash is another mans magical nuclear power plant”

although they had a chernobyl at the start of the tech rather then a few decades into it. Point of that being, can’t trust humans nor hyumans

    2. Haha! Quite literally Makoto’s waste.

Oh yeah…it’s true that Makoto’s scary, but having him on your side is the absolute safest feeling ever, isn’t it?

“If sh*t hits the fan then he’s your man.
Anything else though, and he’s going with the flow.”

  20. “Land, sea, and air; I have already reached S class when dealing with those”

Hey this is super robot reference! Didn’t expect to find this here XD

    Thanks for the chapter!

  21. thanks for the double chapter reigokai-sensei…
makoto you are such careless person n have no common sense…
i like it n it reamaining about kirito n tatsuya that doesn’t have common sense in theirself too…
it doesn’t metter anymore for eva what will comes out from kuzunoha Company anymore…

  22. I hope serwhale is the next contract! 2 women 2 men so that mio wont get jelouse and cause makoto problems. Also if his rings can give out that much heat why not take then to the coners of kanaleon and set them up as heat generators to keep the country warmer in the winter?

    1. Mio still get jealous even if a man or a root. Remember Shiki was pun*ahem*interviewed when he killed Lancer thus taking revenge for Makoto.

    2. the rings are too dangerous unless there’s a reasonable explanation to make it into a tool like that. all of the draupnirs that are used are all being safely protected and stored by the Eldwas into who knows where.

  23. “Land, sea, and air; I have already reached S class when dealing with those.”
    SRW references ?
the following about star sky is about last terrain class in super robot war too : space

  24. Hi Reigokai, i’m not sure if I’m too late or not and not sure if its been recommended already, but this is my recommendation for a possible next project. Choujin Koukousei-tachi wa Isekai demo Yoyuu de Ikinuku you desu!
Its barely been touched in the translation, but basically its about a few super elite high schoolers transported to a different world and working together to advance civilization, simply put. It seems pretty interesting to me at least, but not sure how it progresses. I’ve only read the prologue (Which is about the only thing thats been translated)

    1. he knows. he just wants a his darn hot springs.

but yeah, i would expect at least the dwarfs to realize that they now have a huge source of energy closeby. they did after all live in a mountain before. they know about geothermic energy, especially after looking at their gods memory.

      1. “Want a hot bath? Here, this is a hole, use a pipe inside a pipe, the external pipe sends cold water some 8km down and the internal pipe will overflow with very, very, very hot water.” – how hard is this for someone living in a fantasy world, with fantastic material like orichalcum and others?

  25. Bwahahahahahahah!!!!!!!! this chapter had me laughing so hard. What can I say, first thanks as always Regokai, Serwhale has been infected by Makoto lack of common sense, he has become a full member of Asora now. Poor Eva to have such a monster as her sponsor, something that would take at the least a week of hardy profesionals to do was made in a single day and a work of half a day was done in a couple of seconds. Well at least we know that common sense does hit back some times (O_<)

  26. This was great. Thanks for the chapters. Since his rings have that much power, couldn’t he put a spell on them to generate a limited amount of heat? Plus, he’s surrounded by strong characters aleady. The whale is only moderate in strength. What I’m tired of is him getting depressed over minor BS.

    1. You seem to be misunderstanding something.

That’s exactly what Makoto was trying to do. It’s just that his sense of power is so out of whack that he can’t judge those things properly when it relates to such “low” levels of power.

The same applies to judging the capabilities of others.

  27. Poor Eva , got a good giggle there. And also “A dwarf approaches Eva and rudely pokes her face with the tip of his hammer.” so lewd.

  28. How many Draupnir does he have? Shiki wears 13 of them to give him a power up to the point he could take on a Superior Dragon and beat him. Hell, he could place a spell on the rings and let them gradually release heat in different parts of the country. Or since he made one hotspring, he could do several.

    1. Hmm…I think the best bet for using this to maximum effect would be to bury the Drapnir underground near water veins that connect to flowing water.

Work on the assumption that you’ll create magma veins, then heat the flowing water that quickly spreads throughout the region.

    2. Well, let’s low ball the amount, shall we?

Less assume that Makoto fills two Draupnirs a day (even if that is not the case anymore). He has already been in this world for over two years, so less low ball it and say he has been filling up these Draupnirs for exactly two years.

There is 365 days in a years, and he creates two Draupnirs a day, so he has, at minimum, 730 full Draupnirs.

Keep in mind this is an extreme, extreme, extreme, EXTREME low ball!

However, that’s not really that surprising considering how much magical energy he has…in facts, I’ll estimate that too.

It was said that everytime Makoto shoots his bow, his magic power doubles. We do not know how much magical power Makoto had in the beginning besides the fact that it was more than Tomoe’s magical power before the contract, so we can’t estimate there. So, we can’t estimate the exact amount of magic he has, but we can estimate his growth.

Keep in mind that at the start if the series he had enough magic energy to have about 7 demon lord following him, making him look like a monster and scaring the very guards that swore to protect their people in the dangerous wasteland!

To low ball this, I’ll just look at one day of archery training. He admits that one time he shot arrows for 10 hours straight with Tomoe. Assuming he shot one arrow a minute (even if he most likely shot them faster than just that), that is 600 arrows in one day. As such, his magical power doubled 600 times. That means, the magical energy he had at the beginning of his training would have only amounted to 100/(2^600)% of this current magical power. Now, when put into a number instead of an equation, we get this…

      0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000041495155688809929585124078636912… etc.

      180 zeros…

No, I did not just make up that number and no I am not exaggerating! That number is the percentage amount of magical energy he had at the beginning of training compared to the end if his training session. No freaking wonder why he is so strong!

Not the mention the fact that he trains a little with the bow every day and want to do 10 hour long training sessions (which will most likely go on for longer when he gains more magical power) every 10 days! Comparing the amount of magical power he had at the beginning of series to kow is like comparing something finite to infinity: it is just impossible to comprehend!

  29. AHAHAHAHAHAHAH ! So Common Sense-chan finally hit back ?

Well, I don’t think using the rings as generators was a bad idea, actually it could promote that country to the top, even faster, but… Remember what happened at Asora, that’s the same as having nuclear facilities !

Well, why do I feel that overworked librarian (temporary name) is still underestimating MC-chan ?

Tch ! When I finally thought we would have more of that six-headed battle junkie ! Such a pity…

    “Ruria caught a cold huh”
A cold, my ass ! She’s definitely avoiding MC-chan ! Did that Chibi fell for him ? I think that would be way more arduous than catching a cold ! AHAHAHAHAHAHAH !

    Thanks for your work !

    1. It actually didn’t occur to me that Ruria might be avoiding Makoto.

Hmm…I’m not sure what to make of it. My impression of her is that she’s pretty unexpressive, but that’s all.

      1. Hum… You may be right.
But that sentence is quite suspicious : “I lately have been having bad timings and have not been able to meet with Ruria that much.”

  30. Thanks for the chapter. I have seen the drill before in several series. Such as the anime series “Tower of Duraga”, the Arifureta series when Hajime used it at the beginning to kill a high level beast. And just a showy piece with some of the characters in the video game “Tales of Vesperia”. It had the thing spin during the battle while the character fight which was pretty neat.

  31. I took a break thinking that Rei-san released a chapter… then I remembered that they released the sponsored chapter already yesterday…

    …I’ve gotten so greedy T.T

    1. I also secretly hoping there will be an additional chapter :p , too addicted to stop, thankfully this chapter didn’t have any critical cliffhanger.

  32. Someone should write an Isekai novel titled: “Enemies of Common Sense” right now. I will call its sequel “Enemies of Common Sense: CS-chan’s Counterattack” .

  33. Well, the idea I don’t think was bad, the deployment in the other side, the best would be probably make the eldwas to create a artefact specialized in only that function of warm water .

I wonder how good Makoto can move, live and fight in water, just curiosity.

    1. I mean he could but that would only solve it for the time the clouds aren’t there. More clouds will move in and they would be back where they started. He is looking for a permanent solution not short term.

    2. Also wouldnt that defeat the whole point of Asora helping out Kaleneon? Kaleneon was supposed to be the basis for the weather patterns in Asora so taking the winter out of there may also result in Asora not having winter

  34. MC needs to seriously dramatize it at least once.
    ..
    ..
MC does something against common sense causing him to blank out for a moment

MC drops to knees “DAMN YOU COMMON SENSE!!!!!! DAMN YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

      1. the explosion that was explained there is a steam explosion like the one in cernobyl nuclear site. That’s what happens when a lot of water evaporates really fast (cuz of makoto’s fire ring). And since his ring is strong enough to evaporate all water then make lava I suspect all that steam was created all at once so quite the big steam bomb.

  35. I’m not sure if this is physically possible at any temperature for the ring (it simply doesn’t have enough surface area). Basically it would either take too long, or it would transition into a proper fireball style explosion. Hydrogen and oxygen are not exactly the most friendly elements to expose to large amounts of heat after all. Somewhere in-between you’ll indeed get a geyser, but that would stick around for days, assuming the ring never cools down.
Edit: If we just ignore thermal conductivity and replace it with magic, it totally works 😉

  36. Can’t wait to see whale-san in anime or manga he seem like such a cool dude. MC should make him his fouth or fifth follower. Not to mention he already dig an area when MC busy drilling before being told, isn’t thats the kind of helper we all can trust and want, someone that think ahead for their master.

  37. We literally just studied this in physics, so here I go.
The formula for temperature change is
    E(J) = c¹m²T(K)³
¹ The temp change degree of the material.
² The weight of the material in KG.
³ The temperature change in Celcius or Kelvin, before and after the transfer of heat.

If you estimate that the reservoir is 5m deep, 15x15m, and the water was immediately heated to 100°C from roughly -10C°C then plug in the numbers. You get:

    E(J) = (4.190×10^3)×(1.125×10^6)×110

    which, when calculated, gives you:
    Draupnir (?%) = 518,512,500,000 J

To sum up, a charged Draupnir can store AT LEAST half a trillion Jules of energy.
To give you perspective on how much that is, that is equivalent to roughly 120 tons of TNT.
(Specifically, 123.93 tTNT when rounded to 2 decimals)

Granted, this is majorly dependent on the size of the reservoir, so I’m not sure how reliable this is.

    1. An excellent start! And you are in physics, whereas I haven’t taken physics since… uh… never mind that! But IIRC you need to take the phase change into account, and not just the temperature change. That means checking the heat of vaporization at a given air pressure. That gives us around 700 tons of TNT instead, and even that is run from 0°C – you vaporize water not ice.

We would still need to compute the energy to melt the ice. That is heat of fusion, and adds a paltry 16 tons TNT for 1 meter thickness of ice. And the energy to raise the ice 10C to the melting point from -10C adds another paltry 1 ton. Boo…

Oh, there was a pool of lava in the bottom as well! Can not forget that.

Lets assume the heat spread radially from the center of the reservoir. That would create a hemisphere of lava of 15 meters radius. To raise it to the soldius temperature of Basalt would take another 3900 tons TNT. A minimum 4.6 kilotons of TNT energy release.

But wait, there’s more! If that much energy went down and out, equivalent energy should have gone up and out. A rough doubling nets us 9 kilotons of TNT. Or about 2/3rd a Little Boy nuclear bomb.

Don’t worry Makoto, everyone makes mistakes! Whats a casual, accidental nuke between friends.

  38. Makoto! Become a Spaceman! A Rocketman! Can you imagine the feeling of flying upwards, up, up untill you reach Space? Must feel awesome and scary as hell! Oh, and depending on how fast he can fly ( Space=higher speeds by default) he would be able to mine asteroids and stuff… Or just have the Eldwas create like, Tungsten rods, and then just throw them from space at a city. High velocity kinetic missile would crush everything probably 😀

  39. He could spread his ‘Sakai’ to the whole territory and raise the temperature. While everything melts, people could finish a project or two, as it would take a while for snow to gather again(Truthfully, with his OP magic power, this was much faster than to go to a mountain and search for a hot spring). Also…, he should be in that world for about 2 years and he still didn’t learn how to control his magic power…. Will he start training on this subject after he kill some of his followers accidently? Or will it be after he blows a part of asora?

    1. Well if he did so with sakai something bad might happen since he never tried doing something like applying an elemental effect in his sphere of range so many might die because of it.

Yes he has been for 2 years and a bit but here it doesn’t show at all his inability with magic but rather how unstable the rings are so you wrong there.
