Rembrandt strangles Zara with words that one can’t tell if he was joking or being serious.

The people that were looking at it from afar showed slight signs of fun, so they probably thought those two were playing around.

No one aside from Rembrandt himself would know if he did so purposely or not.

After about 5 minutes.

Seeing the mercenaries return one after the other to the Guild and the unchanged state of Raidou, Zara leaked out a low “Impossible”.

Rembrandt, hearing that small and feeble voice of his, opened his mouth wide and laughed.

Raidou looked at this in surprise.

And MVP of this chapter has to go to Rembrandt, he’s a character hard not to love. Now if the next chapter is what I think it is, then my favorite tag team will be showing up.

    As for Zara….Pffffft! This chapter should be called “Zara Breaks”. The reason Makoto lost to him so much is because they were both following a pathetic level of common sense. Rembrant’s thought on Makoto’s existence and significance have been some very good food for thought though. He seems to have understood the general course of Makoto’s path very well and is trying his best to grasp it and gain the best possible result for himself. Good on him.

    As a final note: “As I thought, her way of thinking is less understandable than that of Rona.”
    Wait what? Makoto really compared Rona to the goddess? That’s pretty rude of him.

  27. I bet [Common Sense Break] is just a more advanced version of a Hero’s typical [Limit Break] ability.

    My current theory is that there are “barriers” like sound and light that mark the next stage in abnormality. [Limit Break] for breaking the barrier in physical capacity and [Common Sense Break] for breaking the limits in historical and social understanding.

    In theory, there are stages above it, such as [Narrative Break] where you start ruining the limitations placed to progress a story like Deus/Diabolus ex Machina(which, incidentally, is probably the area where one Satou actually started at) or [Conceptual Break], which refers to things defying limits on a coherent level and entering more philosophical power ranges, most visible in Slime Tensei and the end of Shield Hero.
    Or…wait…maybe that last one comes after surpassing things on a philosophical level, and before that comes something more like [Ideal Break] or something…?

      4. I think it’s pretty much due to the average level of education in that world. In our modern society on Earth, there’s no way those merchants could get away with their blatant corruption.

  47. why did the author chose 5.45x39mm? if we’re talking about the Kalashnikov then the AK 47 is more popular and it uses 7.62×39mm. it’s the AK 74 that uses 5.45x39mm.

      1. not really, but it’s weird to see a kalashnikov reference using the smaller ammo. in general movies, books, games and manga use the older AK 47 because it’s a much more recognizable gun and it’s ammo size is also more known.

        when someone says 7.62×39mm you immediately think of the kalashnikov. (if you know a bit about guns ofc) 5.45x39mm is less known and sometimes gets confused with nato ammo (5.56×45mm).

      1. It’s “fleshed”, probably the thought process was that you start out by giving a general skeleton about what a person is like and then you put the meat and skin on it until you know what kind of person they really are.

        If you “flush” out a person you are normally erasing them.

      2. The way I thought of it was that “fleshing” means to give a character flesh, so more “real” feelings.

        “Flush” as in flushing out hidden depths and making a character multi-dimensional.

You need to use the bar thingy-ma-jigg on the top of the site and “fast-forward” in time, this can/will however screw up a bit of the links so you need to find a suitable place(so only do “small” jumps at a time is recommended ), comparing the titles of the link you clicked on and the title you went to, to see if you need to go “next” or “previous” chapter from the “wrong” page you got sent to.

  112. It’s nice to see confirmation of Zara being more of a tsundere character, and that when he chewed out Raidou, it was more out of anger at someone disrespecting his profession and telling him to improve.

    Also, going along with the trend of names (Akua and Eris being names shared with Konosuba), Patrick (Rembrandt) and Zara (can be combined for Patrick Zara, an antagonist in Gundam SEED)

      3. Psychronia – His chances are actually pretty good. Mio’s only a genius at the acquisition of practical skills. Shiki, on the other hand, is an intellectual genius. Shiki can certainly find a way to lure all 6 variants towards him while keeping them away from Mio if he put his mind to it. Sure, Mio can just go berserk and consume everything in sight, but she obviously has her limiter on (Makoto) for this contest.

      4. That would be him in trouble with both Mio AND Tomoe. Shiki is 3rd in the pecking order and Tomoe only gave Mio the first night duty, didn’t say she got all of them. She was even moving to share with Mio back when Makoto wandered into the brothel district of Tsige.

        Tomoe is interested in Night Duty as well but decided she wanted her name first as that puts her at a higher rank then Mio. Doesn’t mean she is willing to overlook some weak newcommer trying to get in there before her.

Freyja is referred to as a goddess of beauty and fertility but also war and death. So maybe. Or maybe is some new goddess.

    2. Your point about Freyja is truly interesting. And there’s some similarities, as for the Brísingar’s Necklace which gave advantage at the army that the goddess wanted to promote on the battlefield (even if that myth was amended later).

      But, aren’t you forgetting the Creation goddess part ? It’s right that Freyja has some mother goddess attribut but it seems like something is lacking a bit. Also, there’s that Bug’s thing with girls…

      I think Artemis would be a good bet.

    3. Why does it have to be a goddess from our earth? I admit I’m curious what name she’ll turn out to have, but restricting her domain to that of goddesses in our own world seems a bit too restricting.

      1. Because, no matter their names, they refer to the same God.
        Each god have a different name in different world.
        Just like some gods are worshipped under different names according the country.

    4. …I still think it’s Amaterasu. She’s a confirmed sun deity, and that would make her both Tsukuyomi’s sister and ex-wife giving him a connection for helping her despite seeming a little at odds.. Additionally she’s superficial but still has interest in the management of life insofar as she detests seeing it destroyed but doesn’t actively aid in maintenance beyond passive support (referring to her guidance of rice fields as the sun).

  147. After reading this again I have a crazy theory.

    Patrick Rembrandt is Makoto’s uncle.

    Crazy right?

    So here are my clues on why I thought that up.

    1. My older brother and his wife died in the war after all” (Rembrandt)

    This one is about 25% plausible due to the fact that we have not heard or seen any grave of some sort. And since Makoto’s parents were taken into another world, they would be presumed missing in this one. But since they went missing in Kaleneon during the demon’s invasion, they might conclude that they died there.

    2. Makoto’s family name.

    Since they were transported to Japan, they changed their family name to blend in. While they could kept the name, they might be seen as foreigners and might have a hard time permanently staying, since Japan doesn’t allow foreigners to have a permanent home there(not 100% sure on this one, mostly due to hearsay).

    3. Makoto is about the same age as Rembrandt’s daughters.

    Due to both daughter’s taking Raidou’s classes and having other girls there about the same age as Makoto, I can reasonably say that they are close in age as well.

    Well, that’s all for now, can’t find anything else to support my theory for the time being.
