Chapter 136: Sending off 4 and 5

To put advantages and disadvantages as priority when thinking is somewhat displeasing.

Honestly speaking, it doesn’t fit me.

The times when I was in the wasteland without knowing anything were actually more peaceful.

Right now, even if I try to return to those times, I won’t be able to.

If I were skillful enough to act within the things I know and don’t, I wouldn’t be in this situation where I am troubled.

“Raidou-dono, I have been looking for you! It’s great to see that you are safe”

[You two as well. It is not like something has happened here yet, so it isn’t that strange though]

“… That’s clearly an abnormal state. It seems to still be in the middle of transformation. Raidou-dono is truly calm. It seems there’s something occurring in the town as well. Everyone heard about the situation outside, saw that thing and fell into panic” (Rembrandt)

[No, if it’s a fighting scenario, I am already used to it that’s all. Well, I do have a lot of worries about so many things my store is lacking, so I am not as calm as you think]

“We still don’t understand the situation, but does Raidou-dono know something? Since the time my daughters left, they haven’t shown themselves again. It makes it hard to move. And that’s why I am here but…” (Rembrandt)

It seems Rembrandt-san roughly understands the reason of this panic.

He and his wife don’t seem to be that flustered.

Maybe they feel safe because Tomoe and Mio are here?

Or are the skilled merchants able to understand this kind of situations and rationally put it together?

Whichever it is, his calmness is different from mine which is simple composure stemmed from my defense method called violence.

[The most information we have is that, in the town, there’s monsters like that appearing and rampaging. Sif-ojosan and Yuno-ojosan seemed to have grouped up with their comrades and are planning on doing something about that former Ilumgand. Shiki heard about this with thought transmission]

“In Raidou-dono’s place, all employees know how to use thought transmission right? To be able to have communication in this moments of crisis, how enviable. I see, so my daughters are planning on doing something about that. ?!!! R-Raidou-dono, what do you mean by ‘something’?!” (Rembrandt)

Nodding several times, Rembrandt-san slowly digested the contents of my written communication, but in the middle of it, he was taken aback and was clearly beginning to get agitated.

I was surprised that he was so calm in learning his daughters would be fighting, but it seems that wasn’t the case.

[They are at that age after all. They probably want to test out their skills]

“T-That’s not good… Raidou-dono, that’s not good. I am sorry, but can you guys please do something about this? Like… can you skillfully deal with this situation? In the first place, there’s no need to test their skills in this kind of situation. Right, I did hear there is a troop-like force that’s formed by the Academy for the sake of public order. That’s right. From the beginning, it is strange for students to fight” (Rembrandt)

H-He suddenly began to fluster.

While all flustered, he is mumbling on and on.

… His wife also has a face as if thinking of something, but it doesn’t look like she is that agitated.

In this kind of moments, the parents normally get pretty protective, but she looks quite calm.

“… Raidou-sama, you are their sensei and you are not panicking about it, so my husband and I are not that worried about our daughters”

Maybe she noticed something from my gaze, she talked to me.

No wait, your husband is totally worried.

Even now he is not showing signs of calming down.

“Also, Raidou-sama’s group is here after all. I am certain that the worst case scenario won’t occur. Those girls too, they will one day learn that no matter how much power they gain on themselves, there’s a reality they can’t do anything against. If that day happens to be today, it can’t be helped. Actually, I feel happy that you are standing at their side in that moment. Even if this man looks flustered, he is not really”

… Scary.

Or more like, it isn’t that she blindly believes in her daughters’ possibilities.

‘They will one day understand their limits, so it is better to have them feel that frustration’ is what she is trying to say?

This wife, she is saying something really Spartan.

At a glance, her body seems to be calm, but when seen closely, her gripped hand was trembling, so she is probably pushing herself.

In the case of this couple, the father is the one specialized in pampering.

The two of them are girls, so, as a father, being strict to them is difficult, or something like that?

Seeing his wife placing her left hand over her right and putting strength in them, I thought this way.

[I am happy that you are have faith in us. It’s not like I can always be by their side, so this time, I will take responsibility and properly protect them. And the married couple, what will you be doing from here on? This place is not that dangerous, so if you don’t have any particular business, I suggest that you stay here]

“… I see. Dear, dear!”

“No, worst comes to worst, we can gather the mercenaries of the merchant guild and…” (Rembrandt)

“De-ar!!”

“Uo!! W-What is it, Lisa? Right now I am thinking about how to resolve this situation you see” (Rembrandt)

“Raidou-sama will be looking after this place, so it is safe. And then, this place is safe, but he asked us what we will be doing now” (Lisa)

“W-What? I see. Raidou-dono is going to. Fuh~” (Rembrandt)

What’s with that ‘fuh~’?

You even brought out the words ‘Merchant Guild’ that I don’t want to hear at this moment.

Also, mercenaries.

I have indeed heard that you can hire mercenaries for cheap in the Guild.

It’s cheaper than going around asking every adventurer to help in the goods’ transportation, so I have heard many merchants use this method.

It’s something that doesn’t concern me, so I don’t know its details though.

After Rembrandt-san’s wife talked to him, it seems he calmed down.

“What should we do? There’s the matter of the girls as well, so I think it is a good idea to stay here, what do you think?” (Lisa)

“… No, let’s try going to the Guild once” (Rembrandt)

“To the Guild? Didn’t we go a few days ago? Also, even if we go now with the current situation, I don’t think we can expect a decent reception” (Lisa)

Exactly as she says.

Also, taking into account that I will be on the outlook and I don’t mind a few sparks flying to that place, for him to be in the Merchant Guild is not something I would like that much.

“I don’t think the Merchant Guild here is that used to this kind of situations. Also, I have experienced several battles in Tsige and have taken command in them. I should be able to help out in reducing the amount of damage” (Rembrandt)

W-What did he say?

Just a few moments ago his mind was completely filled with his daughters, and yet, he suddenly says this.

While I was thinking this, Rembrandt-san turned from his wife to me.

“If this place will be protected by Raidou-dono, I don’t need to worry about my daughters at all. Also, it isn’t like I don’t know the Guild Representative here” (Rembrandt)

“This place’s representative… ah, Zara-san. Dear, you went to meet him before right?” (Lisa)

Zara.

That representative, if I remember correctly, he did have that name.

Not only Rembrandt-san, his wife is also an acquaintance of him huh.

Hah~ I still sigh just remembering his face.

“U-Umu. Anyways, if my family is safe, I have to do what I can. There’s no loss in helping out the Merchant Guild, and this is the town my daughters are in. So, Raidou-dono, I will be heading to the Merchant Guild to help settle this panic” (Rembrandt)

“… Can’t be helped. In that case, I will be accompanying you” (Lisa)

“L-Lisa, I don’t mind you staying-” (Rembrandt)

“I will be going. I am more accustomed to rough situations than the people in the Guild here. Also, I would like to give my greetings to Zara-san. It’s been a long while” (Lisa)

For some reason, Rembrandt-san wants to go alone.

Is there some sort of inconvenience if his wife were there?

This is the town his daughters attend to, so in the case of this person, he wouldn’t have any affairs or anything like that.

In the first place, he is head over heels for his wife.

But, those two intent to leave the tournament ground?

What should I do? The choice where I have merits…

….

Ah, geez!

Like hell I will go doing the advantages and disadvantages as priority!

I am already at my limit!

I have a debt of gratitude with them.

I want to protect them.

I want them to be safe.

Then, that’s enough for me.

I check my surroundings.

It seems there’s still people in the guest seats.

Also, there are still a few people remaining.

In that case, it would be bad to do it ‘here’.

“Raidou-dono, sorry but, I am leaving my daughters in your care. If I leave it to you, I have no need to hesitate. I will try to do what I can. Is what I am saying, but I am just going to create favor though, hahaha” (Rembrandt)

“Then, see you later. We will be going now” (Lisa)

[Wait. I will go along with you midway]

There’s no assurance that nothing will happen to them if I let just the two of them go.

Let’s place an escort.

I don’t want the few people I can trust to face danger.

… If I were to enter the demon’s side, I will have to help Rembrandt-san from the back, or they might face danger as well.

Well, I will leave that for when I actually have to think about it.

They seemed to be slightly puzzled for a moment, but the married couple accepted to have me accompany them.

I ordered Tomoe to teleport Eva-san and Ruria to the store in thought transmission.

After confirming that Tomoe nods, I leave everyone and follow Rembrandt-san.

Leaving the audience seats, we continue on into a dim passage.

[You two are in good terms with that representative-dono?]

“Good terms… it is a complicated relationship. What I can say for sure is that we have an inseparable relationship” (Rembrandt)

“There was a time when they both looked after their own stores. They were neighbors” (Lisa)

“Lisa!” (Rembrandt)

“Isn’t that fine? It’s not something to hide. Also, you two are like a mass of successfulness, and were similar” (Lisa)

Rembrandt-san was huh.

I can’t imagine it.

And it seems the connection of the representative and Rembrandt-san is deeper than I thought.

At one hand, allies and companions they can rely on.

On the other hand, they are forceful and despise each other.

What a mysterious thing.

[I see. That guy is relentless depending on the person, to an extraordinary level. He gave the image of a merchant-like person, so it is a bit surprising hearing that he is similar to Rembrandt-san]

“… It was yesterday huh. The day you met with him. You did say you were troubled with the business. It seems he said something to you” (Rembrandt)

[I was unaware of my lack of knowledge and the friction in my surroundings]

“I talked to him a bit about you and your followers beforehand though. It seems it didn’t get through him properly. Sorry” (Rembrandt)

[Don’t worry. It isn’t something you have to apologize for. It was my coping that was lacking after all]

“It is about you Dear, so didn’t you say vague things to Zara-san?” (Lisa)

“It is personal information of Raidou-dono after all. I can’t just readily give out details, Lisa. Fumu, if it didn’t get through him, he must have acted in a very rustic manner” (Rembrandt)

[Sadly, it seems he didn’t even treat me as a merchant. It was truly shameful]

“Even when he is like that, he does have a kind part as well, but he is the type that just lacks in vocabulary. There are times when he is misunderstood” (Rembrandt)

Misunderstood?

It wasn’t on that level. He went full-blown abuse though?

Well, there’s no doubt he didn’t expect anything from me, so it is definitely not a misunderstanding.

Rembrandt-san does seem to know him very well.

“He was doing a more likeable business than Dear. You were the type that just came silently from the back and attacked. It’s true that his mouth was a big disadvantage for him though” (Lisa)

“Lisa, I feel malice there? Didn’t I just skilfully handle the matters?” (Rembrandt)

Skilfully.

As expected, the world of merchants isn’t simple.

I was way too lenient.

[You were old acquaintances huh]

“Yeah. Since a long time ago. Morris also knows about Zara well, and they have also competed with each other. I have noticed that in the end, my family is the most important, so I have drawn a line already, but he is still unmarried and has only been living in the world of business. Maybe because of that his sense of smell has grown duller, or it might be because he doesn’t like my shadow, it seems he showed a bad attitude to Raidou-dono” (Rembrandt)

[So that’s how it was. He told me that it was too fast for me to work here, so go back to Tsige and retrain as a merchant]

“Fuh~, he won’t say it that kindly right? ‘Run back and have your colleague look after you’ is more like what he would say. Well, if that’s how you took it that would be great for him” (Rembrandt)

He really does know that guy well.

Honestly, I told Rembrandt-san that he said it in this way, but actually, what I got from that guy’s words were mostly ‘Disappear you boosted rascal’.

“That’s a Zara-like way of saying it. Ara, we are already outside. Raidou-sama, this much is fine, the rest we can go by ourselves. Please do take care of our daughters” (Lisa)

“Umu. Even if I look like this, I do know self-defense. Don’t worry. I will also talk properly with representative Zara” (Rembrandt)

No, it wasn’t like I was complaining or anything.

But well, it must have sounded like a complain to them.

Hah~, I am truly being pampered by Rembrandt-san.

Gotta reflect.

Well then, let’s go to the main task. Summoning a guard.

[Please wait. I thought it would stand out at the previous location, so I accompanied you all this way. But since we are here, I would like to bring out a guard for you two]

“Guard?”

“Are you referring to one of your followers? But they are all at the previous location”

Without answering the married couple, I create a mist gate.

At a simple glance, it only looked like a body sized haziness, but it appeared at my side.

In there, a shadow appears, and a shape slowly gets clearer.

When two Lizardmen with beautiful scales appear from the mist, the couple gulp.

Surprised that two mamonos suddenly appeared.

It seems they were overwhelmed by their presence and their bearing that one can feel intelligence from.

[As you can see, these are mamonos I have summoned. They possess reliable power, so please bring them along. If by any chance you are attacked, these two will prove to be extraordinarily useful. In public, just say that Rembrandt-san or your wife used some magic tool to summon them]

“N-Now that you mention it, Raidou-dono was able to use summoning magic. I didn’t expect them to appear instantly, so I was really surprised” (Rembrandt)

[They can understand common language, so if you want to give them orders, just saying it normally will work. By the way, the one holding a spear is Blu- I mean, Fia; and the one with a bow is Hyun]

Matching my introduction, both Mist Lizards kneel facing the couple.

It seems that since it is my order, they will follow it.

I’m grateful.

It looks like the couple also grew calmer after seeing how they acted.

“They can understand words huh. That’s reliable. Raidou-sama, thank you very much” (Lisa)

“Yeah. Let me express my gratitude. Thanks” (Rembrandt)

[Please stay safe. Let’s meet later]

I have the Mist Lizard 4 and 5 as bodyguards for the couple.

I plan on having the number 3 work along with the students, so maybe I should place the name like just now.

The two names I gave just now were impromptu, but it is more like code-names so there should be no problem.

Seeing off the couple, I head back to the tournament grounds where the students are probably already fighting in.

      1. anyone can download it…. you just need to know how to access app stores in other countries. I access Japan’s app store all the time for Japanese games (cant read em, but can usually figure them out :P)

    1. dont know why….. the only battles you can do atm is with gyms, they need to add player vs player battles and trades as well as actually being able to battle random pokemon that appear….. atm its just a safari game with pokemon snap included.

      1. haha, that reminds me. in the city i live, there’s a church that is particularily notorious for it’s discrimination for homosexual people. at this location, there is a gym where you must fight a seemingly unbeatable Clefairy named “Love is love”. i personally find that really cool.

    2. Here, in my country, plenty of members of Team Rocket attack trainers and take their pokemons along with there pokedex….. so it’s troublesome to hunt here… sigh……

And I was victim as well…. good bye my zubat..

  1. ………..γ ̄ヽ………Thanks!…………
    …….r’-‘| O |…~……..Nepu!!……..
    ….….’ーゝ_ノ……~…..…∧__∧..…….
    …………| ,|……~…….(´・ω・`)……..
    ……..,,-/ ̄|、…………O旦と )……..
    …….ヽ__シ……….(__(__つ……..

  2. Yup, he can’t get over being a nice guy and helping out. Oh well, just because everyone else is a dick, doesn’t mean he has to be, right? 😋

    Thanks for the chapter! 😃

    1. Well, i would like it if he remain nice Just with the ones important to him
(σ≧▽≦)σ. The rest like rona and that tsundere representative can go die
      /(.o. /)︵ヽ(`Д´)ノ︵ (\ .o.)\

    2. So Jackel, we have pretty similar tastes, right? Know any good stories I’m missing out on? I’m in the market for something new.

      1. Hard to say…in the past three days, I’ve read the first three books of Er Gen’s I Shall Seal the Heavens (313 chapters, btw) and I’m currently having trouble recalling everything I’ve ever read… (Damn you, Er Gen, for your compelling cultivation novel! 😑)

Let’s see, you already read I Will Live My Second Life, right? I think I’ve seen you there… Over on Este’s main site, someone just started translating The Noble Girl Is Living In Debt, which sounds like it could be interesting.

Um, what else…? Do you read The Lazy Dungeonmaster, or Conquering Hero’s Heroines? Also, BakaGrappler’s original work, Stop Calling Me a Demon King, is very good so far…

Hmmm, I’ll think about it some more. Oh, and no more ISSTH for me, for the time being; the next book has as many chapters as the previous three combined… 😵

I’m supposed to be writing this weekend, dammit… 😧

      2. I haven’t read ISSTH, Conquering Hero’s Heroines or Debt Girl, although I’ve been meaning to read the last one. I just started reading Mistaken As A Genius, which looks like it’ll be decent, maybe even good.

You should definitely read Ascendance of a Bookworm if you haven’t. The guy updates once a week, which wouldn’t be so bad if there weren’t something like 500+ more chapters to go. I think the author is updating faster than they translate.

    1. Nah. He’s a foul mouthed bully of 1st order. Dont you forget this Rembrandt is the father of two terrible oujosama. Like daughter, like father. He’s sweet on Raidou because of a few life-changing matters but I am not surprised that he and his friend are terrible beasts of a hyuman.

NO matter how Rembrandt praise that sucker, I totally doesnt mind he get a good beating, both physically AND fiscally.

    1. Why he should do something?
      He is a hero?
      Is his hometown?.
      Some reason?

This chapter is clear,If he wants to protect someone. He will protect

If he wants to do something, he simply will do, no matter what others

      1. He’s such an indecisive idiot that we don’t know what he is. All we know is that he’s a wishy washy with cheat powers.

      2. @Rei and alioptak and the rest:

He is indecisive. He was thrown into a shitty situation, had happiness dangled in front of his nose only to be turned around and shown to be a cardboard mock-up and, let us not forget, he is still a kid. Of bloody fucking course he will be indecisive! He complacently rode the current so far and has yet to seriously think about anything at all. Had he not realized that he needed to do some serious thinking, I would have had nothing but contempt for the writer and his crappy, wish-fulfillment masturbation tool of a protagonist(I am being harsh, but several stories in the real-world-mc-goes-to-another-world-type have seriously ground my gears in the past).

As is, I am actually engaged with the story and waiting for the choice the protagonist will make – will he choose to join the ranks of dirty adults and steer the story into a Shieldbro/Arifureta-style slightly darker one or will he decide that if he can’t accomplish his whims as a merchant, then all too bad for the merchant profession.

That’s the difference between crappy real-world-mc-goes-to-another-world-type story writers and good ones – whether or not the protagonists casually stroll through the whole story without having to sit down and have a serious think about their situation, plans and goals or do they casually run headlong into a wall, break their nose and are faced with some unpleasant, nasty and often brutal facts and have no choice BUT to sit down and start actually gathering real information, making educated decisions based on it and acting as a responsible person and not an angry teenager with mental issues who either gets manipulated by some authority figure or just randomly lashes out at people or easy-mode-sue who just does not have to put in any real effort and ruins the plot.

btw, the generic real-world-mc-goes-to-another-world-type story protagonists are parodied very well by Jerkass-Rapist Hero from Shieldbro (the first of the reincarnated retard brigade).

    2. He’ll probably do something. The question is if he will do it due to being a nice guy or, if he will do it in most beneficial moment to him.

    3. Considering he recently experienced unlikable things, he’s quite confused on what to do in the mean time. For now, he’s likely to go to the demon’s side. But, how about the relationships he’s made through his journey, is he gonna leave the town be where these people are staying? thus the question “is Raidou not gonna do anything to the chaos in town?” 🙂

  3. Mist Lizards are stronger than lesser dragons, I think?

So what would those asshole… ahem, I mean those f*cking asshole merchants think when they see TWO of them escorting Rembrandt and his wife?

And then get told that Raidou summoned them personally?

    Also, next Chapter:

    “WE WANT BLOODSHED!”

*BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG* (imagine foot-stomps)

    “WE WANT BLOODSHED!”

    *BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG*

    “WE WANT BLOODSHED!”

    *BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG*

    1. The pace of the story is kinda getting boring for me, those depressing monologued about merchants and politics is getting intolerable, it was great at first but now it’s just too much and boring…and we are getting a chapter every 2-3days, imagine if we get once a week or once a month chapter just to read those depressing stuff without much action..so thank reigo-sama for the regular chaps

    2. Exactly what I was thinking.

That representative dismissed Raidou as some average at best adventurer who decided to play merchant.

Seeing those two lizards and hearing from Rembrandt “Oh, don’t worry. His followers (Tomoe and Mio, whom he knows well) are much stronger than that” should shake him up a “little”.

It’s only been a day since the meeting? He might start to think that the only reason Raidou hasn’t retaliated yet is because this chaos came about and distracted him.

      1. He was the vice guild master, wasn’t he? My new suspicion is the real master is a twin tailed loli.

  4. Thanks 4 the chapter!

Impromptu names huh. Good thing he isn’t chuuni or who knows what he’ll name them.

      1. That probably only applies to pact bonded members, and possibly only ones on the weaker side of Parent/Child and Master/Slave pacts.

It’s unlikely that Makoto will get many more pact bond partners, almost nothing in the known world is strong enough to bond with his current power levels. Root and the Demon Lord might qualify for Child or Slave status but most anything else would be absorbed into the massive sea that is Makotos power.

      2. Not sure. The manga made it seem that way, but so far it hasn’t been mentioned in the WN, I think. My memory is not what it used to be.

      3. Types of pacts:

        1- Convenant: 5/5

        2- Father and child: 7/3

        3- Ruling: 8/2

4- Slave: 9/1 (in this case, the slave gets absorbed and becomes part of the master)

  5. Yeaaaaaaaaah! That’s the Makoto I love. Cost and benefit analysis is nice, but don’t let it rule your life. If you have friends you wanna protect, then just do it! You’ve got the power to do whatever you want anyway.

Hmm…Composure stemmed from violence huh? So Makoto does understand to a degree.

So the guild rep is just Rembrant if he didn’t get wife-whipped and a papa complex huh? Poor guy went from guile manager to doting father in seconds, no wonder his wife needs to handle the discipline.
Well, Makoto already beat that lesson into all his students using the Mistzards though. …Let’s not tell Rembrant that.

  6. Thanks for the translation (っ´▽`)っ. I want that zara bastard to die. Anyway, did makoto just trow away the little grow he has in the last chapter? I hope its just limited to the ones that are important to him, like Tomoe, Mio, Shiki and the rembrandt Family, oh and the rest of his students as well. In his current situation is better for him to act based in advantage and disadvantage after all.

    1. I think it’should because he thought he had to think in advantages and disadvantages regardless of what Rembrandt would do, instead I think he went the middle way:
Henrik will help friends and everyone else better pray they are useful or else he will just leave them in their mess

      1. he should just do what he want. Thinking of advantages and disadvantages if he has clear goal. For now he did not has them yet. He just thinking of how to live peacefully so he don’t need to think about them too deeply in the first place. At least he’s still clearly understand what he need to do. Protect who he want to protect. At least that clear some of his doubt

  7. Makoto is a good boy, just off rings could make people mess their Pants… But still it being a nice guy, I like

He could have killed and completely finished the guild of merchants, and disappoint the couple of parents, but he did not

One must do what he wants to do, nothing more

  8. As always, Makoto is an idiot that refuses to grow-up. And keeps suffering from the disease all LN MCs suffer, AKA nice guy syndrome.

    1. If growing up means abandoning your friends and people that has helped you when there is no profit for you than I haven’t grown up and I would rather not.
There are times to act based on risk/benefit calculation, and there are times to act “Screw this! I’m not losing people important to me!”.

      1. To begin with, “childishness” and “ruthlessness” aren’t on the same spectrum. There’s no reason someone who has “grown up” can’t still show compassion for others and help someone based on an emotional desire with no strings attached.

It’s too soon to just write off Makoto’s decision to help those who he wants to help as him discarding last chapter’s growth anyway. Why does he have obsess over what costs and benefits he gets here when he has a very clear desired objective(the safety of people he has a connection with) already? The difference between his negligence during operation in the past few months and his choice today is that he’s more or less aware of the general consequences of his actions(as laid out by his followers) and is willing to accept them anyway.

        1. Tell that to alzack! I want Makoto to be compassionate and only be ruthless when he needs to. A good leader needs to be able to be both.

      2. Those kind of MC are too many and I get too bored too quickly at those kind of MC as their action are too linear. Slaughter summoner are one of them while it is fun once in a while, but that MC is boring. No real char development (read the side char are more enjoyable then the MC actions) or anything, just fight and kill. And hopefully he wouldn’t be like satou who only thinking a way to run from responsibility.

    2. Give it up.
This is “that” kind of novel after all. One who has a Justice-idiot, in-denial, as MC. He’s a guy who helps random people in need by selling cheap. It was practically in the bag after his last line last chapter.

In fact, it’s rare to find Male protagonists that aren’t. The more interesting characters are mostly the secondary and side charas.

    3. yeah, let’s be an asshole, that’s what adult are. only imatures brats show sympathy and compassion, amirite?

      1. you know, I really hope that when push comes to shove, the average person’s immediate response isn’t actually “screw the world, let them all die.” I fear for society if it’s true.

        1. I already fear for society. Not because it’s true on impulse, but because it’s true when it’s not on impulse and people get a chance to mull it over.

      2. we already have one guy (alzack) who see kindness as a disease, and he is probably not the only one. humanity is screwed but nothing new.

    1. But Satou still hasn’t learned World Transfer yet… and I highly doubt he’ll go the trouble just to save a male.

    2. I don’t know, he seems to be taking his sweet time transforming. Maybe there’s this big stock footage production full of sparkles and twirls and nudity that they all have to watch until it’s completed.

MU MU MU MAHOU MAMONO ILUMGAAAAAANDO!!!!

    1. Sarcasm, right? Zara was disgusted by Makoto’s entire existence. Makoto’s luck and looks made Zara go way over the line! Don’t be naive.

  9. Man is it just me or does anyone wanna see Makoto actually get angry and just go on a rampage for a little?

    1. No, not just you. I would love to see Makoto rampage. I do like the current evolution of his mindset though, so I don’t mind the absence of action.

I’m hoping there will be a proper domination battle between him and the trash hero or something. Something similar to his original fight with Shen.

    2. even if he’s not angry, I think people are wanting for some action since before. If I think about it, it feels like we haven’t had any action for almost a hundred chapters now… it’s starting to get, well not to the point of boring but, stale.

as one of the avid readers(leecher), I can’t help but think that way so I avoid steering my thoughts there.

  10. Crazy theory here:
Will Eva and Ruria be Makotos next followers?

The basis for this theory is incredibly thin and mostly circumstantial but I’m still quite bothered by what both of them said in the last chapter. (They will give up their names for him.) I mean, why would they? Why would he ask this of them?
And now this chapter title. Sending off 4 and 5. Who are 4 and 5? The chapter reads as if it indicates Lizard 4 and 5, but was this so important that it justifies naming the chapter after them? It seems fairly unimportant to me.
But if we think about when there are 4 and 5, there must be 1, 2 and 3, and if those 1, 2 and 3 are Tomoe, Mio and Shiki (who all have gotten new names from Makoto) and if “sending off” actually meant teleporting Eva and Ruria away, then not only would there be more meaning in the chapter title but it would consequently name those two his next followers (with new names).

I’ll be honest with you. I can’t imagine why they should be his next followers and even why he would ask them to become his followers. (Because of trust issues, maybe?) I just try to make sense of them giving up their names for him and this strange chapter title. I’m not convinced by this theory. It seems unlikely.

    1. There’s some sense to your theory but it’s really unlikely. I mean, Shiki who was a lich, exceeding hyumans, barely reached the requirement to be in contract with Makoto with all the rings.

      1. I did not mention this point because as you stated even Shiki needed to be boosted with Makotos rings, but with enough rings Eva and Ruria should meet those requirements too. And from how I understand it, Makoto is burning through those rings like a wildfire through the woods in California during a drought.
So I don’t think there will be a problem there.

    2. In regards to the 1,2,3,4 and 5 thingy. The two Lizards “Eins” and “Zwei” he uses to train his students with, these … names… are actually the numbers 1 and 2 in german. His naming sense here is rather dreadful, I cringed a little at that point… the japanes like to use the numbers in german as names for some odd reason that I don’t get.

      1. Ah, I’m german myself, so I did know that. 🙂 (Yes, it is cringe worthy)

But I think it a waste to name a whole chapter after them. Hence this theory.

        1. Quite alot chapter titles are weird, so I highly doubt that it has a real significance here. But sometimes life’s stranger then fiction, so who knows for sure?

    3. Ah sry, I forgot to make my point; he had Eins-kun and Zwei-san before and since he already planned to use a third one (before the mess with the guild), I’d say that we have the 3 before he sent out Fia and Hyun, which makes 5 total.

    4. Lizards 1 and 2 are the ones who have been helping with that training of students.
Lizard 3 was mentioned in that he or she would have some separate task for this emergency.

Eva and Ruria will be his followers in the sense that they will be taking orders from him, but probably not in the sense they they follow him in his travels (i doubt theid survive).

      1. Maybe.
But then what about the whole abandoning their name thing? Simply becoming followers on paper does not sound strong enough a transition to warrant this radical action.

    5. They can be his followers, but I can’t imagine them contracting with him. The ruling contract is just about the limit for still keeping yourself, and it has an often unmentioned clause that they have to obey Makoto if he gives an order (which, fortunately for them, they like doing). If your magic isn’t sufficient for the sea that is Makoto, then he might accidentally overwhelm you and your sense of being would be washed away by he overwhelming torrent.

Shiki just barely made it with considerable assistance, but I can’t think of a good reason why the sisters would want to risk that when they can just be friends.

  11. Thanks once again, and here’s a few more ‘decals’.

Place to look is in the puss
gripping plant is not my servant.
    the sex appeal is small
    Slapstick was, dense
is the story I come To bang.
“We are waiting for night crawling”
Is in the conversation with Bukkake fall women
    and Gollum.

  12. What’s all these bloodshed and carnage comments towards the next chapter?! You’re making me not be able to wait and try Google sender’s translation! But nah, I’ll wait for a quality for Reigo-san.

    Thanks for the chapter!

  13. Iyo.
Okay, so an entire chapter of “Huh? What should I do to come out with the most benefit to ME” and now it’s “Fuck it, I’ll just be a nice guy.” Thanks for wasting a translator’s precious time, Author. 😛

    https://bakapubs.wordpress.com/

    1. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t Makoto’s conclusion this chapter. More like, “Fuck it. I’ll help people I want to help.”

It’s easy to write off as a lost aesop, but I personally find it to be another layer of character development-as long as the practicality from last chapter sticks.

  14. For some reason this chapter feels like a waste… wether there is bloodshed or not doesn’t really matter, as long as its interesting. I frankly don’t give a shit wether the Guild representative is a tsundere or not, nor do I care if he’s a rival of rembrandt… what does it matter at this point? A few chapters back, when it was relevant it would’ve been interesting. Now though its just noise. There are a myriad of things more interesting to read about, including a POV of one of the winged race and medusa race respectively on how they feel about Asora and Makoto, now that they’ve lived in Asora for some time.

But I can see where this is going… Rembrand goes to the guild with Fia and Hyun as bodyguards.->He takes command of the Guilds forces to help calm the situation.-> At some point he gives the thoughtless command to the two Lizards to “Attack”, which results in a fast and decisive “win” (read: Massacre). -> Guild representative who was told that these two Lizards were just instantly summoned, without any ritual or other preparations, by Raidou and nearly pisses himself while he thinks back on what he said to the man.

  15. didn’t expect a chapter release so early, I didn’t have time to re-read the previous one.

Anyway, this feels more of a filler episode than the previous chapter. Last chapter I understand “why” despite my ramblings. But this, I fail to see what i’m supposed to grasp.

I get the feeling Rei-san wanted to get this chap over with, thus early.

    Thanks for the chapter.

  16. Well guys, Spoiler-san is just going to keep still here eating popcorn and a cheeseburger… I knew I should’ve asked for fries. Anyway, it’s not going to be over for a while, so grab a seat and kick back. Spoiler-san out.

    1. Umu!!
You should order cheesecake since its yummy!

Anyway spoiler-san is it really true someone will die on makoto’s side?? (T.T”) tell me so I can prepare myself..

    1. I don’t get why he even need to get to that conclusion, it should be natural help those who helped you, why would he think otherwise.. Those dramatics were not needed, he could’ve just sent lime or other ops incognito..I’m even surprise he doesn’t have someone already assigned to the couple, with all the things happening..again thanks for the chap reigokai

      1. Well, the point was that he was trying to think about EVERYTHING in terms of costs and benefits. Which already doesn’t work here, so he’s revising it.

  17. Why do I have a feeling that Rembrandt’s wife choose him and not this Zara which why he has enmity with anyone connected to Rembrandt. Rembrandt being a nice guy thought that this Zara is just a tsundere when he is just full of spite.

    1. but many are hoping he gone that way.. Will be very disappointing if he did because he still not yet receive any despair situation. There was 1 but still can get by, thinking about it, I am impressed that he still not bore any deep hatred toward hyuman because of that.

      1. I mean, I don’t think Makoto even hates the Bug? He resents her, sure, but it’s only the point of wanting to sock her in the face once in protest.

I’m just hoping he ends up so overpowered at that point it becomes like his encounter with the Liz…

      2. I didn’t mean the bug, she’s corrupted but not that bad, I mean the hyuman that kill komoe v1. In normal LN/WN, that alone can create xian xia plot you know.

  18. Seem, this and that, worry and troublesome things kept on happen no matter where Makoto goes. Trouble B*tch Bug and carelsss misunderstanding Merchant ball head are people alike, but also put into pushing SELFLESS reason dragging nowhere of GOOD/BAD peace for Makoto.

    Rembrandt’s worry 100%

    Makoto / Raidou’s worry over 300%

P.S. Makoto is still struck indecisive, but still pick Safety FRIENDS over Death of Worry

  19. So it looks like Lisa will be putting Zara in his place laying the groundwork for Makoto’s next meeting with him (which the text suggests there will be as it appears to be setting up a continued presence in this city). That aside, this chapter wasn’t a very good decision pacing wise as it’s too uneven. Adding this to some other chapters there seems to be a tendency for the author to get stuck wanting the work to go one direction, finding the writing going a different direction, and creating poorly fitting bridge scenes to try to force things back onto the desired path. It’s something that happens with first time authors.

  20. No need to rush, ppl, calm down, calm down.

1- Makoto is growing at a good pace: he realizes his naivety, asks for his followers opinions, and tries to choose the most beneficial course of action. You can’t expect him to becoming a shrewd Merchant a few minutes after? lol Besides, what’s the point of having power if you don’t protect the people you care about? It’s not like he is saving the city or something?

    2- Not to mention, it would be suspicious if he didn’t do anything to help his only connection (Rembrandts), both as a Merchant and as a powerful teacher;

3- Long story short: pay attention to losses, gains and consequences, but don’t lose sight of what’s importante. That’s what Makoto showed this chapter.

P.S. What about the royals and nobles? Did they flee? I think we’ll get a POV from them soon, maybe after the fight against Ilumgand? What about Root? Did he tell them to stay?

  21. Thanks for the chapter.
This chapter I liked, Makoto is still the mc we like(or I hope you like), and hasn’t compromised his beliefs and become like those shrewd merchants.
On a side-note, when I heard the bullshit coming out those merchants mouth about how they treat small business I realized *caching* huge business opportunity. I’m sure we might see the rise of the Makoto stock market. XD

  22. I’m actually kind of nervous about him sending those mist lizards off. As strong as they are, they’re headed to a place with mercenaries, and we all remember the completely unreasonable “common sense” of the adventurer woman in Tsige that he rescued from the forest oni, right?

He may be trying to subtly build a bridge but I worry all the same.

  23. Raidou should be humble and ask the old man for advice on how to deal business. He already has a connection, he just need to learn to use it.

  24. I like his reasoning. Yes, he’s a simple person. To be shrewd, to weigh merits and demerits is just not for him. Protect friends, protect connections, do what one wants and should do and that’s what it’s all about.

In that regard he reminded me Vongola the Tenth.

That doesn’t mean he’s bound to remain a naive and easy trusting person, though.

  25. Truly interesting chapters ! Finally you abandon your self persuasion. There’s no need to force yourself in a way of thinking that doesn’t suits you. Losses and gains ? Fuck that !

Just live freely and enjoy obstacles as they are the proofs of your existence ! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH !

    Thanks for your work !

  26. Did no one else notice that he NAMED the Mist Lizards? Isn’t naming a monster an act that bestows power on them, like when he named Mio and Tomoe, should’nt 4 and 5 get special powers or a boost to power?

    1. No? A name is just a name. Tomoe and Mio got names because Tomoe REALLY wanted a Japanese name, and Mio needed a name, too, because fairness and she sees it as a gift of endearment, but it’s the contract that powered them up. The names are just names.

There’s no special mechanic going on here when something is named like in, say, a story about a certain slime demon lord.

      1. I think he’s referring to the manga adaptarion here, which added a “boost” in power whenever Makoto grants his partner(contract) a name. Iirc, it was Tomoe who mentioned it to Makoto when Mio insisted to grant her one. It’s been a while since I read it so I’m not too sure.

In this WN however, there’s no such thing. Dunno about the LN.

    2. A name is only important (gives a power up) after a spirit contract (Tomoe, Mio and Shiki). “4” and “5” are just codenames given on the spot.

  27. I don’t know why none of you have picked up on the little ‘revelation’ of Rembrandt this chapter.

You all are too fixated on Makoto, but you fail to realise something about Rembrandt.

We all know Rembrandt as this ‘hardcore’ merchant that can handle difficult situations and has been giving other merchants and organizations a hard time to deal with, but this chapter made something clear about Rembrandt…

…The guy also has people that supports him. It might be obvious, but if you think about it, you’ll realize how it makes a difference.

Look at how he easily got flustered and couldn’t think straight. Who was the one who made him think clearly about what to do in this situation? His wife.

And i’m also sure that his butler has also been looking after him and has been helping him with his business.

    So, what does this mean?

Look at Makoto’s situation and compare it with Rembrandt’s.

    It isn’t that different.

The only difference is that up until now, Makoto’s followers has been obediently following his decisions, while Rembrandt had someone (his wife) that could set him straight when the time came.

People expect Makoto, who has no experience being a merchant or doesn’t even know how this world works, to make logical decisions on his own. Most of you even want him to rampage, but the guy has people he need to think about and his decisions might affect them too.

Makoto is growing up. He took the advice of the representative and has learned to think about the advantages and disadvantages. He also listened to the opinions of his followers and is trying to come up with better way to deal with the situation.

He won’t immediately change, but he will continue to grow. All that Makoto needs is experience.
    ———-

As far as the rampage thing goes, I think that’s a bad idea.

Why? Because no one knows the kind of power the goddess has. Even if Makoto has power that surpasses the goddess’, Sophia and Lancer nearly killed him, despite him being far more powerful than them.

We also know that the goddess has graunts, former heroes that she made into her followers.

What would happen if the goddess witnessed his power and thought of him as a threat and then decides to sent down her followers to take care of Makoto and his followers?

She might even have a way to go to Asora, because she wasn’t originally from that world. She came to that world, meaning she has a way to travel to other worlds.

    1. so, tl;dr ver: makoto need a good wife?

      —-
and my guess on asora, it’s not another world, but a subspace because it’s too easy to make a portal between them, when it’s hard as fuck to transfert people into another world. only humans or people with divin blessing can survive it (not sure where I saw that).
It possible that other people can bypass it apart of the godess.

      1. He needs someone that can help him make good decisions along the way. Look at this line: “Morris also knows about Zara well, and they have also competed with each other.”

Even Rembrandt’s butler has experience as a merchant.

All i’m saying is that Makoto is inexperienced and doesn’t know how the world works. His logic from his own world doesn’t apply to the world he is currently in. His followers also know nothing about doing business and follow him no matter what decision he comes up with, good or bad.

The only real advice he has received was from Zara and now he’s taking it to heart and trying to think about his actions. In this situation, Zara is like Rembrandt’s wife, even if he had gone overboard, the advice he gave was something Makoto needed.

Makoto may be naive and inexperienced, but he isn’t an idiot.

If he was an idiot, then he wouldn’t have been thinking about the advantages or disadvantages of his actions. So, people that think that rampaging or joining a faction is the best option should think about the consequences first.
        ______________________________________________________________

Yeah and that’s why rampaging is a bad thing. He doesn’t even now how Asora works himself, so it would be a bad thing if they get the goddess’ attention.

  28. “But, those two intent to leave the tournament ground?

What should I do? The choice where I have merits…”

He really piss me off!!!!! He could just put them unconscious and that’s all! BUT!! He decided to help them and created many complicated troubles for himself! Yeah author it’s hard to write a story but isn’t a good reason to write some bullshit!!!!!
