Chapter 8: A delighful pledge

~Shen POV~

Supremacy must refer to this.

A mysterious existence. Mysterious experiences. Mysterious memories.

To think about destroying this would be a stupid thing to do.

Trapping him in the mist barrier, I checked out the memories of the enemy hyuman, and I was shocked.

By the way, I don’t know what kind of illusion he is being shown. I just pour in the power inside this barrier and can only decide if the direction of the illusion will be pleasure or fear.

Normally there shouldn’t be any problems after that. If it goes into the fear side, most of them would die, and a lot of them would also struggle. If it’s pleasure, the struggle would be low, but the time it takes for them to die would get longer.

For speed, its fear; for safety, I would go for pleasure. That’s how I divided the use of them.

But this time, choosing this method made me feel terribly ashamed.

These memories are wonderful. Just…wonderful.

This enemy, no, this man…it is hard to believe, but he was someone that had come from another world.

Memories can’t lie. There is no source more truthful than this.

An unknown existence unknown existence unknown existence.

Even with my long time here, I have never seen such memories before. He was a person of great interest.

To let this living being to die… Such a thing is something that shouldn’t be done.

Especially this.

This thing that seems to be one of the hobbies of this man.

It jolted my heart with tremendous force.

I don’t want to be the one that cuts off these memories. I don’t want dead memories.

I want memories that are alive. I want to hear it directly from him. And I want to converse with him.

His strength, his treasures, his existence…

I don’t remember a time where my heart has been moved so much. Is this what they call interest?

It wasn’t just a whim. From the bottom of my heart, I knew that this was interest.

I don’t want to lose him.

I want to know. That’s why, I won’t let this person die.

I have to release him. To imprison him in a dangerous barrier is a foolish thing to do.

The moment I release him, I should talk with him.

What should I do to achieve that?

I have to let him know that I am not hostile to him anymore.

Using a saying from his world, it would be…’show your stomach and everything will be understood’?

I don’t understand.

But, first of all, I should release him, and then ask for his condition. If he is surprised, I should be able to use that as a trigger to begin a conversation.

I have already learned human words. There should be no problem.

Though, he can speak with the orcs, so he should be able to speak with me as well.

“Then…” (Shen)

Thinking I should release the barrier, I look at him. This is the first time I have been this entranced with a person’s memories.

What a sweet feeling.

But once again, I was the one who ended up being surprised.

I could sense the activation of power inside the barrier.

It was quite the power.

I can hear something.

“Anyways… girls… after the other!” (Makoto)

What is it, the power has increased even more. The barrier is crying.

“Already… tyr…. kiiiiii!!!” (Makoto)

“Oooh?!” (Shen)

The mist that was on the surface of the barrier disappeared as if crying.

And then…

A dull and dreadful sound rose out.

My barrier, for the first time, had been destroyed from the inside.

How out of norm can you be? Just how powerful is that power the God from the other world has given you?

Cold sweat.

Thinking about that attack hitting me sends shivers down my body.

Showing my stomach, I prepare myself to round my eyes the best way possible. To show how lovely I can look -I don’t have much confidence though.

He most likely thinks I am more in the animal category. Not the pet type, but the wild animal kind. To what extent I can look like a caring animal, I am a not sure.

And then, he appeared.

“Hey.” (Makoto)

He calls me out in a really calm voice and my body hardens.

“I am sorry, good man that has come from another world. I now know the circumstances of the destruction of the gate. I have learned that it was a misfortunate accident. I will also apologize for my quick temper. Could you please lower your weapon?” (Shen)

“Wa?” (Makoto)

“I will add this to my apology. I have read your memories. I don’t know the contents, but I have shown you an unpleasant illusion, and for that, I apologize from the bottom of my heart.” (Shen)

“…That wasn’t something you yourself showed to me?” (Makoto)

“I can choose if it will be pleasure or pain, but the details and the contents depend on the target.” (Shen)

When I answered him like this, he crouched while holding his head. ‘So it’s as I thought~’ is what he groaned.

“Other world person, I am Shen. A superior dragon and an existence that is called “invincible”. Just as you know, I am particularly good at illusions.” (Shen)

I made a decision that would make the me from yesterday laugh.

“Ah, I see… I am Misumi Makoto. If I said Misumi Makoto, would you understand? (TN: he says it twice. One in kanji and the other in hiragana. I wish he would use Hiragana for names more often) You may already know but I have come from another world.” (Makoto)

I already knew, but him saying it shocks me for a second. Watching memories and experiencing them is different, that’s for sure. For the sake of the future, this is something that must be said.

“Makoto-dono, won’t you form a pact with me?” (Shen)

I have already decided to follow this man. I already know that he is close to a traveler and that he is aiming to head to a human settlement. A human settlement…it is more like he is looking for people.

Then, a pact is fine.

I will follow him as a partner.

I will lend him my power and I want him to talk to me about his experiences. Especially about ‘that’.

“Uh? A pact? Like a summoning beast?” (Makoto)

“It’s an event that can only be done one-on-one. It vaguely differs depending on circumstances. The existences that are in my class most likely can only do this once. I can brag about me being the strongest class. I promise you that I will not bring any losses to you!” (Shen)

His way of seeing things may be a bit different, but it must still be pretty similar.

“Hm? Having more people along is better?” (Makoto)

“Yes! Yes! I am extremely interested in your hobbies! Please do give me a favorable answer!” (Shen)

Yes, those wonderful memories. With just a glance, they captured everything of me.

“Guha!! What kind of threat is that?! What did I get my hands on?!” (Makoto)

For some reason, he was crouching and agonizing.

“How is it? I think it’s something that will bring benefits for both of us though.” (Shen)

“Gugugugu, you schemer. Alright, I get it! I will be counting on you.” (Makoto)

“Yes! I as well, for the many years to come, will be counting on you!” (Shen)

With his approval, I began the process of the pact with me as the lead. He doesn’t know the process of it, so it’s a matter of course.

A pact of 50-50. This is absurd, the configuration I am trying to push is not maintaining at all. How out of the norm.

A 70-30 parent and child pact. Impossible, this is also pushed away. Just how much magic power does he have?

An 80-20 ruling pact. I was somehow able to retain the configuration. To think I would be pressured down to this point. My pride as a superior dragon is a bit hurt.

I can’t maintain my consciousness any longer. This is the first time I think that being a dragon is a good thing.

A ruling pact, in essence, I would be his familiar…no, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that I am his slave.

Fufufufu. Isn’t that fine?

I am looking forward to what he, no, that great person will do in the future.

It seems that the next hundred or less years will be the most fun times I will have in my whole life.

Being liberated from my boredom, I felt my heart shaking in joy.

“Then once more, please take care of me, my master, Misumi-sama.” (Shen)

TN: Slave get! I mean, Harem member +1!

An easy to translate chapter with not as many idioms as in the last chapter.

I really wish the other chapters are like this.

    1. I wonder if this goes the same way as that novel where first harem member is an ape and later he adds a donkey to it? (Sexy ape girl even retains her strength as an ape if she partially transforms just her face too, it’s hilarious.)

I hope they gain evolution in some form to turn into girls though. (Going to laugh if he ends up demon king and by the time tsukiyomi wakes up he’s the god of the new world.) xD

  1. Readers wouldn’t like your wish of short chapters, unless it’s the trope of harem getting and breaking the norm by first getting an arrogant dragon as his first in this world. It’s ng, I tell you, ng. Whatever ng means.

    1. Haha yeah i know, I dont need short chapters. I need easier to translate ones. When they are filled with idioms that have different ways of saying in another language I get stuck really hard so its not enjoyable for me to think a sentence that is close to it

      1. The ng part was meant to be a play on similar novels, iirc.

Also, I kind of stopped reading at around chapter 40-70 because I have literally no idea whats going on. I kind of phased into a “please kingdom build so that I can have a foundation”.
        Have fun, mangonia.

  2. Hold your harem horses… Seriously, we still don’t know for sure that Shen is even a girl… I mean our mc is only 8 chapters in and he has already shown notoriously bad luck as far as heroine characters are concerned…
Either way still can’t wait for the next chapter, thank you for translating this!

    1. Well, both the cover of vol 1 and the title image of manga shows 2 girls, the blue hair one having slit eye very similar to Shen and flowing mist-like hair.

The other one black hair with dark-mist-ish magic.

I’m leaning that Shen = the blue hair .- .

  3. Thanks for the translation.
    Future show (maybe):
    Heroes: It is you!
    Maou: It is you guys!
    Heroes, Maou: …
    Maou maids(?): who are they?
    Heroes:… be my(our)!!
    Maou: I refuse.
Heroes: then be my(our) by force.

At the time Maou almost win in a close fight
    Maou: I think I only love M**n God(dess?) so I refuse all.
    Magic attack behind Maou.
    Maou: what happened!?… Why?
    Heroes:…?
Maids: Heroes let us defeat Maou and make him our!
    Maou:…
Heroes: … yes! Let do it!
Maou defeat and happy ending for all(?)!!

  4. Is that really the word mean contract?

Because in Japanese subculture, yakuza, they have a similar form. two side exchange sake to establish a pact, a relationship. A 50-50 pact mean a equals. A 60-40 or 70-30 mean parent-child pact, normally between a main house and a branch house. A 80-20 master-servant pact normally between a victor and a conquered one.

    1. They do say Keiyaku. I call it pact now I am not 100% sure if its the accurate word. There are way too many words that mean something like a contract. For example: Pledge, oath, bound anyways, a lot.
I feel that pact is pretty close to it.
I also thought contract sounded weird and not fantasy like so I changed it.

  5. Pact or Pledge. The word used in the writings I read is Pledge, but Pact in this context is not wrong.

As an out of context comment: Contract in fantasy setting normally used in summoning. You summon a being, and establish a contract with it. It has a set of requirements and limits for both the summoners and the beings. Though in the context of this LN/manga, I feel Pact (with relationship implied) is more approriate than contract.

  6. I completely dont get! just what the hell did that dragon saw in his memories that made he/she/it respects makoto so much?!, and if a 80 – 20 contract makes one of parts a slave then what a 90 – 10 contract would do? (what is below a slave? a minion? a sacrifice?)

    1. The fact that he is from another world and that she is a bored dragon with who knows how many millenias of nothing to do. When ou live that long you would cling to the fun

    2. THing is, medieval setting general doesnt mention this, but they are horribly lacking in entertainment materials. Book? Expensive and very narrow choices of selection. Game-toys: not much, chess, cards, that’s it. Shows? You damn well better be richer than Croesus to patronage your own production company to make shows because otherwise you dont have shits to watch. We are living in age of information and we can have access to EVERYTHING human race know. Book? Billions. Game-toys: every shits ever get invented. Shows? Flooed over our head.

So a memory-reading bored immortal can want to keep an otaku/nerd nearby is no exaggeration. And it must have been of that group, because normal Net user doesnt have the interest to reach wide and deep enough to have materials in their brains.

    3. I wouldn’t be surprised if she can sense when someone is destined to lead an interesting life. And for a dragon like Shen, I guess even pride is less important than the entertainment value.

  7. by the way just for coment
his name was write in Kanji but the hirakana means spelling his name
It is a bit strange if you are speaking/listening but if you are reading make alot of sense
